@shreddernuo your presets may sound like crap to anybody that has a different guitar and different amp than yours... they are supposed to be a starting point... but tweaking will always be needed
I must say this: this preamp - efx unit demands respect. Evil good. One has to learn it,but when you have,it wll reward you massive. For metalhead and classic players alike. Damn i am happy with mine. Sounds awesome in all configs. Tube, soldid state or soundsystem/pa direct.
Does anybody know..is it possible to bypass the unit, if I want to play the raw sound of my amp (the Manual says just Mute the output completly)? Is it possible to turn off the Amp- and Speaktersimulators and just using the Effects? I would prefer to use this Thing in the FX-Loop of my Amps, and not as a Guitar Preamp..
@LetArtsLive actually I'm from Germany so I can't tell you if musiciansfriend is a good store for checking prices but their more or less typical PRS. Starting from 1200$ to 1800$... ;) it's the only PRS I like and the only one that I'd consider to be worth the money. Except the bridge. I don't know why they're still using this completely nonsense one-piece thing. You can't adjust anything with it... :-
@TheVikingBattleDwarf i like the solid bridge.I like the bb king lucille one it has adjustments fine tuning.I lock down my bridge on the jackson or forget staying in tune.Mine isnt a usa real floyd rose but i like the emg pickups.Theres a place sweetwater sound i like you should check it..they have great prices and service..they have you tube and no i dont work for em
Lol, he forgot to mention the $2000 amp+cab setup he's running this processor through. In every vreview of multi effects units. If your like me, and went through about 7 different multi effects units, you'll know that it DEFINITLY matters what type of amp you running it through. When I had thos effects units, I was running them through a solid state flexwave 412. They all sounded like poo poo. At all different times, I've had from the Line 6 POD X3 Live, Boss GT-10, and many others.
This is basically a Rocktron Voodu Valve + Rocktron MIDI XChange + Rocktron HEX Pedal, all put together in a floor package called "Rocktron Utopia G100".
everyone keep in mind they never tell you what amp their running it through. If i were to buy this thing and run it through one of my shitty amps being a crate flexwave, it would sound like shit. Which is why I had to return the boss gt-10, line 6 pod x3 live and other multi fx units because they all sounded like shit through my amp.
just keep that in mind before purchasing anything (I've learned the hard way)
That's sort of funny. At the moment, since my other amp is in the mail, I'm running through my flexwave, and it doesn't sound half bad, just takes a bit of tweaking.
I think your problem with the GT-10 and the X3 was that you didn't know how to dial it in right.
The problem with the GT-10 is learning the correct way to place each effect in the single chain. The unit itself has incredible possibilities, it just takes time to learn how to program it right.
i have one, every day i wish i paid a bit more and got a gt-8..if ur into gigging, this wont work well, but if ur into practising in a room, its good enough i suppose...
im in between g300 and nova system, wat do u reckon?? im looking for really good effects, value for money, wud be great if distortion is nice but i'll get a good tube amp soon rite now just got randall rg75 g2. thanks
UTOPIA pedalboards are great, but do not forget that they are preamps, so they have to be connected to poweramps or in the RETURN of the serial effect loop of your guitar amp.
Do you have one of these? If so could you post vids of it? Is there a way that I can just bypass the distortion and use the boards effects with my amps distortion?
I owned a G300 but I sold it because I preferred the sound of old Rocktron preamps (especially the Piranha with tubes inside). It sound well on high quality tube poweramp: MESA 20/20 at least. If you only want modulation effects, buy a non-preamp pedalboard.
I actually want to use the preamp sometimes. But other times I want to hear my amp. By the way can you tell that it's not tube? Does it sound "digitized"?
Yes, UTOPIA distorsions sound "digitized"... No tube inside, so there is a big lack of dynamic & realism. Sorry for owners... (I sold mine after two weeks)
But well, used with a very very good poweramp (full tubes), you can get a decent sound.
No, and that's the problem... That's why I chose rack tube preamps (Rocktron Piranha & Peavey Rockmaster) which I use with single pedals (eq, delay, chorus). Multieffect pedalboards do NOT have good distorsions... and they all sound digitized.
Oh I have to add that you have some multieffect pedalboards (VOX, ZOOM) with a 12AX7 inside, but the tube is under low-voltage, so they have a small-small-small impact on the sound. They are toys!!
I heard about the Zoom G9. I was beginning to think that's what I'd be getting, but I'm just going to use my amp and get some stomp box pedals. Thanks a lot for all of your info man. I really do appreciate it.
Well, I am not saying the UTOPIA doesn't sound, it is a great multi-effect preamp, especially with a full tube poweramp (MESA / VHT...)... But I prefer single pedals & true tube preamps! The sound is professional.
Not sure where you got your info from. The Utopia boards have amp and cabinet modeling, and you can record directly from them. The Rocktron Prophecy is a preamp. These are modeling units.
how does this work?? if i have a distortion and then i want to switch to a clean delay do i have to search up/down a lot of times to be able to find it? if so then it will be very annoying!!!
it does, but what i did was went out and bought a hot head digitech pedal and put it after the rocktron, found a clean setting, and added wah to it and keep it there. then you have wah, clean, and distortion with the stomp of the hot head. VERY GOOD
I have one of these. It sounds incredible through an amp. But for recording direct, it can be difficult to get a good tone. It takes a LOT of tweaking. Live though its amazing
Although the actual sound with an "average" guitar are pretty damn good, the PRS and his amp are adding a lot to this (not to mention his talent). I love the unit though, I recorded it direct into my pc and used the cab sims in all of my vids. Got it from ebay for $125.00.

Note-The Mega voicing is good for leads but it has a mid range tone that is a bit off for rythm. Use the british voicing for a good fat rythm sound.
