yep! now I'm never going to Japan, LOL jk I know creatures like these are everywhere and leaches have helped science and medicine greatly but they are still gross as hell.
Yeah its funny until they sneak their eggs into your body. they eat their way around. then, come out from under your eyelids, out your ass hole and/or your vagina.. they eat heart tissue lung tissue, they eat thru your intestinal wall, thats how they get to your heart and lungs, and uterus. i heard a doctor went there on vacation, he had leeches in him for 6 years until he felt one crawling across his eye. then he died, autopsy revealed a colony of 3,000 in his colon. and 27 in his brain.
@kasetizell No but there are dancing leech videos!! :) anyhow some of us like them for pets and use to releive pain and swelling. it works!!! google leech therapy once.
"where did that human go?" lol, i live in a very swampy area so we get a lot of leeches you have to watch out or else you'll have a few stuck to you or worse ticks DX
@Svxji I'll confess to being a little disturbed when I stop on a hike and spot these things moving across the ground to get at me. Tends to keep me moving... Thanks for watching! -Kurt :-)
Jesus Christ, that's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. Seriously, when it 'runs' across that stick I would've pinched off a loaf in my slacks.
@softypapa Hey, its cool, nothing like a late youtube to teach you things about the world. Reminds me of the worms in an old game I played once on genesis. They'd run end over end and if they touched you they'd stab you with a needle and you'd tank. These must've been the inspiration!
@XsaadowX leech bites don't hurt at all. they secerete a numbing substance. Sometime I will video my knee getting a leech treatment:) yes, I am a girl. more like tomboy. I love leeches<3
@grettagrids I'll have to take your word on it, I'd be nervous of infection or disease from them. I think they're cool, don't get me wrong, and its awesome you have more experience with them, I'd just not try to put myself in a position to find out personally :P
@grettagrids pet leeches? Sounds cute ^^ When I come to japan I will try to get a few of those mountain leeches to keep them in a nice large terrarium :)
hey softyP. i think the leech knows its prey is close by sensing body heat or maybe even the Co2 we exhale. just like some ticks in Africa that actually hunt for there meal.
wait i have a question. Were you like raised in the USA then moved to Japan because you have no japanese acent and im not making fun of japanese people because im half myself. So please answer my question i just wanna know. =] TOM=]
I've had several of these leeches bite me and in every case I never felt any pain. I only noticed the leeches after the were accidentally knocked off and I spotted the copious blood coming from the bite wounds. The blood kept coming for a long time yet I never felt any pain. -Kurt :-)
Hello welcomeback444, I tried searching google for "worlds biggest leech" and was able to see a video of a creature much larger than any I have seen here in Japan. I suspect then that the leeches here are not the largest. Thanks for asking this great question. -Kurt :-)
Hi there softypapa.. How about you try search "lintah" in you tube. It's a local name for leeches in Malaysia. I think leeches here are pretty aggresive..
Hello Smeechez, Thank you for watching and commenting. I was indeed raised in the USA (California) though I have been in Japan for a total of seven years. The contrasts between the cultures are many though the similarities are there as well. Thanks again! -Kurt (softypapa)
Hello iluvminirexes, Thank you for watching our video. No, the leech did not get hold of my finger though I was afraid that it would. I'm glad that it is now too cold for these creatures though I will certainly be more careful after the weather warms up again next year. Thanks again for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
i'm really intereste in these leech video's of yours. perhaps you could post more like this. i'm also wondering how in fact you spotted something just by walking by unless of course you were looking for 1.
Hello anthonyparillo, Thanks for watching and commenting. Mountain leeches were quite plentiful this year during the rainy season and therefore it was not hard to find them while walking about the countryside. The one big leech could not be missed as it was so large and brightly colored. I hope to see more next year! Thanks again for dropping by! -Kurt :-)
Thanks for posting. I have never seen or heard of one of these things in Fukuoka. I can see why you're fascinated by them, they are interesting in creepy way. Their movement is incredible.
Hello yollam, I agree that these little animals are amazing! They were especially numerous this year in the mountain valleys of Shizuoka prefecture where I like to explore. However, after three or four months of hiking around with these things chasing after me I've become a very caution hiker, taking dainty steps whenever I pass through dense ground cover or wet ground. My father-in-law tells me that they will even drop from the trees on unsuspecting passerby. Yikes! -Kurt :-)
Ouch, he got you anyway!! (I agree about you being quite brave- I would of just knocked it off and left) Thanks for posting it though, it's almost like national geographic. I've heard some soft clinking in your last few videos, is that just the lens cap to the camera? ~Kat
Hi Kat, Thanks for braving the wild world of the Japanese Mountain Leech with me. People must think I'm leech-crazy lately though with all the rain we've had the little critters are everywhere and the opportunities for filming seem endless. Yes, the sound you are hearing is the lens cap. Thanks for mentioning this as I will try to keep it in control in the future. Thanks again! -Kurt :-)
The way it moves from leaf to leaf is pretty cool!
