Interesting how this language, sounding so....crude.....hasn't died out like more beautiful languages, like Old English for instance, and other beautiful languages have stayed intact such as Irish Gaelic or Scottish Gaelic. But this language seems more barbaric to me since I'm a Germanic speaker. The hacking sound is disgusting and there are too many vowels, and k/q sounds.
Old english didn't die out. It evolved into modern English (with latin derived vocabulary added). Also, not that I don't like Gaelic, but how can you say this sounds cruder then Gaelic and has more hacking sounds?

Last time Syria had any real problems with religion was during the Muslim Brotherhood rebellion in 1982 when at least 10,000 were killed in Hama or maybe 25000 is a more realistic figure. The general feeling in the west is that if the Baathists were overthrown then the Al Ikhwan would come to power and then there wouldn't be much tolerance for Christians, Jews or anybody else. Many people who had to do their military service were killed and tortured because of their faith. They tortured my grandfather in order to make him a muslim but my grandfather never slur his faith and his god. He said even if you kill me with your gun i will never become a muslim.

Actually, the Assyrians today are a mix of ancient Assyrians, Babylonians, and Arameans, some are Persian mix, and Jewish mix.

U are right about the political genocide, but i was born in trabezon and I was raised practing Islam, but we would practice Christianity without any knowing the truth. Since I left the real kingdom of pontus to the us people would be put in jail for treason if u where not muslim.

Killings ar happing but in very small nummers. The problem is discrimination. As a Christian you have more posibilities in Syria then in Turkey. I am from Turkey and I know what I am talking about.

Than it's time for Muslims to change their name again and start using Aramean instead of Arabic. Be proud of your own identity and background. Start educate in Aramaic and write in Aramaic. I don't ask you to convert to Christianity, that's your own choice, but for God sake try to be more proud. Arabs did kill more languages and cultures then every other nation/people.

@Caracalla23 Not quite, for the arab culture... is only the language of the quran. Quranic arabic is what I'm referring to... not cultural arabic which includes non-Semitic slang and post colonial influences.
And it was chosen, all you have to do is look at each Semitic language or languages and note the ones that have the ability to last and the spread throughout the world, only Arabic has that potential the god willing. Maybe you would like to see the argument for that?

But because of historical accident. Most Muslims DON'T speak Arabic but Turkish, Farsi, Urdu. Bengali and even English. The largest Muslim country on the planet is Indonesia and they don't speak Arabic.

Other than what I could search and find of 1 Chronicles 28:18-20, Proverbs 16:1, we have quran 96:1-8 that puts that point clear, that it is by the god that language is created, it is by man kind that the god let's them utter confusion. Imperialism/power, is by the god's help. You can say that those languages were so, but they weren't made to last very long.

Last time Syria had any real problems with religion was during the Muslim Brotherhood rebellion in 1982 when at least 10,000 were killed in Hama or maybe 25000 is a more realistic figure. Events like that make the Israelis look like a bunch of pussies.

@trexaur123 The Arab Middle East isn't the only place where all three of the Abrahamic religions co exist. Even here in the UK we have two million Muslims and hundreds of thousands of Jews living alongside tens of millions of Christians and atheists.

@trexaur123. Dictatorships do enforce "tolerance" look what happened in Yugoslavia?? and Iraq. The general feeling in the west is that if the Baathists were overthrown then the Al Ikhwan would come to power and then there wouldn't be much tolerance for Christians, Jews or anybody else. Other than a very conservative version of Sunni Islam.

Many people who had to do their military service were killed and tortured because of their faith. They tortured my grandfather in order to make him a muslim but my grandfather never slur his faith and his god. He said even if you kill me with your gun i will never become a muslim.

An Eastern Orthodox Church Priest once told me that the muslims living in his rural mountainous regions spoke , studied and kept the aramic language strong as compared to the Church and Priests ( Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy ),
Because before the Arabisation - most of the people living near him all spoke and understood Aramaic.
