there it is the dreaded dragonfly stance known to completely cleave people from head to toe. it was also higly known that the warriors would drown out the screams of there victim with their battle cry a very scary thought when on a large battle field.
Does anyone know of any Kenjutsu dojos close to Philadelphia? I'd love to learn...well...any style of Japanese swordsmanship, really. I learned a little aiki-ken last year, and all that did was whet my appetite, so to speak.
The last cut he did was quite impressive. I have a question for any Ryushin Jugen Ryu practitioners. I practice Sei-too Ryu Kenjutsu which is basically an offshoot of musashi's original style. We do stops as well, but more for stepping on the opponent's feet or kicking knees, etc. Is that what the stops are for in this style as well, or is it more a distraction? Just curious :)
no, actually the fumikomi its to give more power to the cuts as you can see Yagahi Sensei use his body to make a deeper cut to the body, the sword goes first and then the body.
@Delmo67 look at how fast that cut is at 1:51, if you were on the receiving end of that you'd be in big trouble, he doesn't telegraph it at all.. you see him drop a little bit and by then the cut's already on its way. yikes
Our Dojo is one of three dojos in the United States that teaches Ryushin (Tenshinsho) Jigen Ryu.
Soke Yahagi Sensei was in Miami last week. Awesome is the only way to describe it. His combines a perfect mastery with the sword with a great skill at being able to teach and explain techniques. It was a great experience.
Hmmm...well truthfully I'm not a jigen-ryu fan to begin with as I do not like goho styles of iai. I feel like it draws away from the elegance, not to mention the speed, of both the draw and the noto alike. But I definitely liked the tameshirigiri at the end! Holy cow! Now THAT'S precision!
Well all I could say about it, is that in Shorinji Kempo 'Goho' is the hard (punching and kicking) side of the syllabus, but then again we have nothing to do with iai so I don't understand the meaning or context of it here either.
this is what I would considered as a true professional. Demonstrates the Budo spirit with his eye, body and movement. Gives me inspiration to work harder...
Cont. you can not get better than this, It send chills up my spine. The man move like water and a true master. This is so awesome and a great example how to do it the right way. Very good and I just love this video. This is not fake and I will recommend this video to anyone. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu for this awesome video.
I am sooo glad these vids are on youtube there are no dojos were I live so I have to study books and the videos find on hereeos

This is a video of Yahagi Sensei, who is now the current soke of jigen ryu. He is really impressive, and fast, especially live.
He is also an awesome teacher.

What do you mean by "Goho styles of Iai"? Like five-directions? Just curious.

Very nice! I dont know much about this art. Did it originate from Hayashizaki Jinsuke's line?

This is Jigen-Ryu most powerful style of Kenjutsu. In my opinion. Used to defeat early Meji army.

You mean in Satsuma, right? I thought the Shinsengumi style was the one used against the Meiji.
