This chapter is one of my favorites in that book. It was funny, awkward, and painful (all at the same time) to see Edward being submitted to Bella's ambivalence... I understood her own misgivings, and at the same time I wanted to hit her in the head! Wake up, girl! Here's a man (Edward is no boy) who has proven in every way that he does everything thinking of your well-being over any other consideration. What more could you ask for? She later realizes how selfish she's been to him, of course.
