A nice public service to demonstrate the sound of the shofar. The abrupt, cut-off endings to the notes is not the only option. My son the shofar blower who is also a trumpet player shapes the notes with a beginning, middle, and gentle, fade-away ending. Also, when Noah and Rabbi Fassman (from trumpet doctorate to rabbi, and it may be because of the shofars they blow, they get a sound that is sweet and full, not whiney, more like a french horn.

@TheTallitMan Kind of a shame, but Noah blows only during the Days of Awe at B'nai VeryBig in St. Louis, and I have no recording of him. Although, I do have to admit: Rabbi Fassman at Shaare Zedek, St. Louis is a little better than Noah; he's more consistent. I have heard him at Yom HaShoah. It would be a huge surprise if Rabbi Fassman were not better than Noah: before studying for the rabbinate, Marc Fassman earned a doctorate in trumpet and was a trumpet prof at a college in Minnesota.

May I ask, the ancient Jewish Weddings, when the groom came in the night for the bride, someone would go with the groom and blow the trumpet, to call the bride out of her home, do you know what blasts would have been played? I have a book on Ancient Jewish Wedding but it doesn't mention what sounds might be played.

Different ? in which sense ? The Shofar is God instrument to warn the people, to free the captives from Satan's grasp and to praise and worship Yahweh. It's not a musical instrument to play taps or some blues jazz song. I say this because there are two people on youtube that have used it to play secular music melodies and that is not in agreement with God. The Shofar is not to be taken lightly as a novelty item but rather as a Kingdom instrument for Yahweh's Glory and his children. Shalom

That I am aware of there are no kudu in Israel. The very first horns were thought to be IBEX horns. Very rare indeed. They are beautiful curved horns. We have some in New Mexico USA but it is a drawing for a once-in-a life-time hunt. the horns can be up to 55-57 inches. They are incredibly beautiful! But I love the graceful kudu horns to & blowing the shofar is an amazing experience in Gods timing! I've had people fall to their knees weeping & crying before YAH! THESE ARE WARRIORS USUALLY!
