  • Those rotorblades look all bent in flight. Is that optical or do they really do that?

Im considering to buy an Esky E-500 for 140 euro's which is about 170 dollars i think. Comes with suitcase. For an extra 140 euros i get 3 extra LiPo batteries and a professional charger

Is that a good price? Service of the store i want to buy it is very good, they only sell helis that they have all the spares of and are cheap

  • yeah that funnel cloud has got to go!

  • u Ordered it From X-Helis For Them to Make it For You Specials so it Looks Like T-Rex 450??

  • Love the vid :)

I'm thinking of buying a Honey Bee CP2, But its my first EVER R/c Helicopter, so do you recommend buying the Honey Bee CP2, or another R/c heli?

    Please answer asap :)

    Thanks

  • @bentg1 Buy a mCX, then a CX2/CX3

    then a Blade 400 3D! :)

  • look out for the tornado lol

  • XD IAHAHAHAHAH

  • how many motors did you go through

  • I am still on the original main motor, but the tail rotor motors I have used at least 6.

  • is the tail rotor belt driven?? can u reccomend more videos please!

  • It is not belt, it is an etrm. Look at my home page, click on see all videos and look for pictures of Honeybees for more. There are 18 or so, I think. good luck.

  • Is this in the video a fixed pitch or cp?

  • Collective pitch.

  • wo the blades r really bendy

  • Lol It's an optical illusion from the camera.

  • hahaha yea lol im new to flying helis but i did have one about a year ago i just dont ant to start off wit a cheap heli thats for a begginer i wanna go average lol go ahead and get a desent heli u kno wat i mean r no? haha

  • Nope, I do not agree, having found only 4% of the people who try to learn actually can simply hover within a year, so I say learn on a VW and if you never crash it, then Get the Porsche. But if you have lots of money, get the Porsche first.

  • how much was it and was it worth the money?

  • I think I paid $129 with 2 batteries off the internet a year ago. I still fly it, so it was worth the money to me. People who crash because they dont know how to fly and break them will say no. Consider this. Real helis cant take the slightest crashes either. LOL.

  • whats your favorite rc helicopter of all time? that you have flown?

  • My Kobe Kiko Hughes 300 with Weedeater

(Echo 120) engine. It's in one of my videos. (2 helis at once).

  • Heh heh, the blades look kinda wonkey (NO! I'm not british!).

  • Yep digital cameras do that to all blades.

  • I know. It's kinda of an obvious if you know how video cameras work. Right?

  • lol wonkey

  • so where should i be going from a coaxial that the only thing iv ever flown. the honey bee FP

and should i stay away from esky belt cp and honey bee cp untill i get good at the fp. my skill has goten a little better than my vids.

  • Get the HB fixed pitch. It is cheap, parts are around and it will teach you to hover well, as that is what must be accomplished first. All helis fly away easily but if you cant hover, they will not come back. Study my 9 heli flying tips. If you dont have them, I will pm them to you.

  • does it have a fixed pitch?

  • Thats what I said, get a Fixed Pitch HB. That means it has fixed pitch.

  • Congratulations on the video, very helpfull. I jut bought a HB Heli, I live far away (Central America) and very little people that I know have RH Helis, so all the help I can get from experts like you help. Please email me any tips to get started. I have flown 2 CH cheap helis bit the HB is my first real heli.

  • Welcome to the heli world. I will send you my 9 helicopter rules of thumb and flying tips in a PM. Good luck and thanks for your comments.

  • PS, See my video, How Helicopters fly. That should help too, since it is important to know the flight and control theory, to be able to fly it.

  • hey have you email? i wanne buy somthing from you. i am leaving in holand can i get you email pls. can i buy that ufo fro you pls? thanks.

  • Sorry, just pm me, is best. Sorry I am keeping my UFO. It's one of my favorite machines. I'm sure you can understand that. :)

  • would you recomend a hunney bee 4 ch or a walkera 4 ch. im pretty sure the walkera is a little bigger.

  • If you can't fly, bigger doesnt mean much. I like the Honeybees personally, but either would be good.

  • would size help it stay stable in the wind.i have a havoc and thats easy to fly but it will not even lift off from my hand outside.

  • Any bigger heli will handle the wind better, and Gas ones do best. The ETRMs like honeybees do pretty good, but your talking about only a few inches bigger or smaller, which is not even worth considering as they all fly the same in the wind. It is the weight that makes the big difference, so they can keep the momentum in stunts.

  • do you own any 4 channel helis?

  • Well all my early helis were all 4 channels from years ago. The Piccolo heli on my home page (first production of my etrm invention) was a 4 channel.

They are easy to learn on and fix.

  • yuhee!!!luv ur vids!

  • Thanks very much.

  • can i get tips?

  • Yes, on the way in a PM.

  • Hi Dave, I've been watching your videos regarding the HBFP because I'm getting one soon. I'm interested in knowing more about your 9 tips! Could you please send it to me?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Tips away in a PM.

  • I love your videos! What helo would you recommend for someone with only elevator mini experience? I've heard the bigger you go, the easier to fly (control). But also hear that the Honey Bee Fixed Pixed is one of the most cheapest/durable helos at its price out there for beginners.

Also, can you fly those tips my way? :-)

    Thanks!

  • Thanks. Honeybees are good, but Coaxials give you time to learn the controls, as they are easier.

Fixed pitch is cheaper and good for learning to hover and level flight. ETRM helicopters are not good for 3d flight. Tail rotors driven by belts are the best for that, like my Blade 400 (see video) 5th flight.

Any Collective Pitch (CP) helicopter is quite a handful. If you want to learn on one, make sure to fly a realistic simulator first. The one voted best is the Aerofly Professional Deluxe.

  • Yes, but coaxials are not good for outdoor use right? I fly my modified air hog havoc and my new air hog stinger inside.

I'm looking for a beginning heli for outdoor use.

  • Also ... you spend more on parts if you crash as well.

  • Ha ha ha. That is true. Unfortunately crashes are a necessary part of the learning curve, which no one likes to accept.

  • Coaxial helis have cyclic rotor controls and therefore can steer and fly in any direction. In light (under 5MPH winds) it will fly fine outside.

  • You rock!

Launch me your tips too, please.

  • Thanks. Tips away in a PM.

  • wow, whered you get those bendy rubber blades!! ha ha just kidding-no frame buffer in the video cam, i know.. good flyin.. im a blade 400 convert.. windy conditions always scare the shizz outta me.. good job man

  • Ha ha ha. Yep I cant wait for some good weather to fly my Blade 400 to see how it goes.

  • Hi Nightflyyer!

I'm all the way from Sweden and i'm thinking about a HoneyBee, but is it too steep for a beginner to buy the CP2? I was thinking about going for CP2 directly, and learn "the real deal" instead of a 4ch. Is it that much difference? Oh, and i can take a copy of those tips and tricks you got! Thanks!

  • The real deal is a belt driven tail for better control than ETRM helis. But to learn the best way is to use a simulator first and keep the price down on the first heli. It is because you have to learn to hover first and we all crash. The 4ch will help you with the least aggravation. My tips are away. Thanks for the comments.

  • It's great to see some realtime help as its so much easier to understand and take in when its a practical demonstration and all of the videos you've done here are truly helpfull, so thanks v much Dave. Could you send me a copy of your tips and rules of Thumb too please?

    Thanks again,

    Presto

  • I would like yout tips and tricks also hints for simulator tips for the CP2.

  • Tips away...

  • Do you know a good place on the web to get cheap esky parts? Please reply.

  • I don't know about cheap, but I got the best deals from this fellow Brian on my Esky Honeybees. You could email him and ask him, as he sells Honeybees on EBay.

    Here is his Address. bkm11112000@yahoo(.)com

  • Hi Dave,

Loved the lessons, I just got my first rc helicopter as a xmas gift and I got the honeybee cp2 - may be a little too much for a beginere lol. I have been playing with a simulator and have managed to get basic flight. Could you send me your tips and any other advice you can offer?

    Thanks

    Neil

  • Yes sir, thank you kindly. My tips are on their way.

  • I see there is much wind in this vid. Is the Honeybee that good in the wind or are you just very good at handling it? For example; if you took a Blade CX2 out on that same day (stock cx2) would you have any luck with it?

I have a brand new honeybee cp2 in my closet. I can hover my Blade, move forward and in a circle. How much flying time on my CX2 should I put in before I try to baby step my Honeybee?

    Thanks,

  • People tell me I am good, and that helps. You would not have enough cyclic pitch to fly forward with the Blade CX2 in this wind. You can make it more by moving the rods out on the arms though! See if you can fly yours when it is set up super sensitive. Its a good test.

  • Thanks NightFlyer...

I have them moved to the 2nd hole. I think it is easier to hover on the 2nd hole..in my opinion. I flew in a 10mph breeze today and it "held steady"...didn't blow away as long as head was in the wind.

I may move it to the 3rd hole...but...are there any tips for not slapping the blades on such a setting?

    Thanks,

    Kenskid

  • I good hard jerk in forward flight will slap the blades,no matter what. It will come straight to Earth. Try to be smooth as you can on windy days. (talking about the Blade CX2 here folks)

  • Looks fun, I'm getting a coaxial in a few days and am thinking that once I get bored with that I will buy a honeybee and a simulator. I just hope the coaxials can fly outside. Your video's are great and make me want to fly now.

  • Thanks. The Blade will, but just keep the wind down and you will have no problem. They would not fly in the wind as Is shown in this video, but they do pretty good as long as they are coaxial with Cyclic pitch.

  • A question. this heli looks like it has Great maneuverability. dose it how touchy is it. are you able to move it very slowly, as it climb and turn slowly? i just bought a peace for 60 bucks, just knowing about this heli is making me want to cry in a puddle of my own tears.

  • This helicopter is only for experienced people. All 6 channel helicopters are touchy and difficult to maneuver for most. See my vid on the blade cx2. I will send you my 9 heli tips in a pm and maybe they will give you and insight. Do do Smooth and slow turns is like moving the sticks only a "hair" at a time.

  • Ok sweet thank you very much.

  • Have you checked out the EF Sabre? It is also a great helicopter.

  • Yes. I have one. It is fixed pitch and good for learning.

  • Dave,

Do you always use the throttle hold? I'm still relatively new with the Honey Bee and am not yet comfortable going into that mode. My problem is that without that extra blade speed I find it hard to deal with even 5 mph wind (it gets carried down wind all the time). In Oklahoma it's always more than 5 mph!

    Jeff

  • Only if windy. TH is best turned on when you are up to speed, but not off the ground yet. Then the motor speed is constant and only pitch changes with the left stick. It will still land, but you have to be ready. Big old heavy gas helicopters are easy to fly compared to these lightweight "twitchy Kleenexes". Force the nose into the wind only.

  • Hi Dave

I have just Gotten into these Helis, and what GREAT fun they are! But up untill now everything has been trial and error (CRASH).

Your video has really answered a lot questions that i had. But now I have just bought a HoneyBee King 2, and now I have alot to learn. Could You please send me your Rules of Thumb. You really know how to explane things so that even someone as dumb as me can understand

    Thanks

    Ron

PS: Most of my inverted flying has has been good at digging holes!

  • Ha ha. Thanks. Forget the Inverted flight for a while! Real ones don't fly inverted anyway. Lol

My Rules of thumb are on their way.

  • Very nice copter, how much does that one go for?

  • This one is about $119 plus shipping from My Ebay friend.

  • Hi Dave Again

Thanks for the Rules of Thumb.

But I have 1 more question about the HB King 2, that I can find no answer too.

What do the controls do on the upper right side of the controller do? And what is the Gyro SW for?

    Sorry thats 2 Questions.

    Thanks

    Ron

  • The momentary switch is to hook up a buddy box. When you hold the switch on, a friend can fly on the other transmitter. When he gets in trouble, you release the switch and you have control again.

Gyro switch is for aggressive tail rotor hold, or mild hold.

  • Thanks Dave

It sure is great to have questions answered!

    Your the King !!!!!!!!!!

    Ron

  • WOW! Thanks for this great vid!

    God bless you!

    yours,

    Tony

  • OMG.then it worths to buy.i will try to get it.(thanks for ur answer.)

  • how high and fast can u go?

  • Out of sight and about 45 mph.

  • Great Flying. I just bought one of these. I am a begginner so I tought i'd just practice small hovers. The blades spin up to full and dont create any lift. If I nudge the direction stick the audible pitch the blades make as they chop the air suddenly becomes louder and deeper and there is suddenly lots of lift and it shoots up into the air uncontrolably. What do you think the problem is??

  • Well your Throttle hold switch should be off, towards the back of the TX, because it sounds like that is why it is at full throttle and in the 3d mode, thus sucking itself to the ground, until 3/4 throttle. If that is not the problem, your pitch control rods are too short. I have a set of my Heli tips and RULES of THUMB, of you would like, they will help you. PM me and I will send them to you.

  • I read some Comments.. Im just 17 and i really want to learn to FLy RC helis... CAN you please send me your rules of thumb.. really want it badly =D.. THANKS.. your videos really made interested in flying helis

  • Nice flying , ive got a honeybee exactly the same but everytime i take off it just tilts sideways and slams into the floor what am i doing wrong?

  • Well, that is hard to tell, maybe it isnt you.

The swash plate should be level, at rest.

When you take off, all helicopters slide to the right. You must push the right stick to the left to compensate. Would you like a copy of my heli flying tips?

  • Hai nightflyer, i just bought the HBKII from ebay. Just want to know, does the HBKII really can do 3D with the 370 stock motor, and how long does the 1000mAh battery last? Cool flight. I respect the way you handle the super wind...heheheh.. And ya can you email me the heli flying tips... Thanks and great videos.... God Bless..

  • Thank you. IT is not as good of a 3D helicopter (full stunts) as a helicopter with a belt or shaft driven tail. The King is better for inverted flying, however inverted flying is out of the question, when only 4% of the people who try to learn to simply hover a helicopter succeed. The rest give up or it becomes too expensive to learn. Tips on the way.

  • Wow...only 4% succeed in learning a hover? I can hover my blade cx2 very steady after 6 recharges (About an hour of flying time) This was my first heli. Is that a good sign? Remember...I have a Honeybee in my closet begging to be flown!

    KS

  • That is a darn good sign, but believe me a 6channel super sensitive 3D heli in the wind will get your attention. Keep me posted.

  • Hi ive been flying a 4 ch lama v4 for the last couple of month and have decided to upgrade to a helicopter capable of 3d flight and i was wandering what would be the best helicopter to go for im looking for an electric one

PS i was wandering if any of you guys knew any good cheap Chinese helicopter sites that are reliable.

PSS Thx Night Flyyer for the excellent video

  • Thanks Kindly. The best 3d helicopters have belt driven tails and that is important for good tail rotor authority. The Honeybee King II is a fabulous machine. 3D means loops, rolls, inverted flight etc. Make sure you can do this on a sim before trying it in real time.

  • mine is fixed pitch though,

  • man that looks like quite a challenge, good flying! I know I couldn't do that.

  • Thanks. Practice and you will. It will be better to learn on the fixed pitch, so don't give up.

  • Thank you so much, Ive crashed three times and mest up my landing gear but I fixed it.

  • How do you switch the throttle hold, I have one like that too. I bought it off of ebay.

  • Throttle hold is a switch at the top left corner of TX On is toward you.

I do not recommend you use it, unless you are thoroughly comfortable flying. If you crash, you must shut it off immediately, or the tail rotor will burn up and possibly the main and speed control too. Have fun.

  • Hi all and nightflyyer , I use to fly rc planes and tried rc gaz heli (6 ch) and never got the hang of it . I would hover with my eyes closed but never got into foward flight. I'm wondering are you flying a 4 ch or a 6 ch on the video. Tell me what to seak for (exact name of your heli ) And also , is this the best heli out there? thanks man.

  • Thanks. Lots are good. Mine is a E-Sky Honeybee cp2, it is a 6 channel for stunt (3d) flying. It is not good for a beginner. Get a Fixed Pitch honeybee or similar. They are all good, but learn to fly on a VW, before getting a Porsche, meaning start with the least complicated of helis.

  • Thanks for the answer . I will get the 4 ch then and I guess I,ll have less stress flying it than my old 6ch gaz heli. I've been looking at the 4 ch kits and the only downer is that it comes much less equiped than the 6 ch kits ... I was also wondering how long does it take to recharge the batts and how long do they last in fly time...thanks again for infos and your video is a great information help ...happy flying.

  • i just got a honey bee king 2 off ebay with 3 x 11.1v 1350mAh 12C Li-ion Polymer Battery, Fitted with 4200KV Outrunner Brushless Motor + 30A Speed Controller with built-in Heat Sink + 2 pairs of Carbon Fibre Main Blades and a Training Kit im a newbie but have been flying planes for years(i know very different but im sure it well help) and i have friends that can help but if you could e-mail me your "rules of thumb" that would be very helpfull

  • Congratulations. My rules of thumb are on their way.

  • i have been looking into buying a venom night ranger 3d helicopter. i have some expereance with the blade cx2. you seem to be very helpful when it comes to helicopters. whats you opionion on the night ranger.

  • That heli is very good, but is expensive. Also, it only has NIMH batteries. I prefer the LiPos these days, because they are lighter and run longer. They also have 2 other versions of Night rangers (has nothing to do with night flying) too. They are for advanced pilots.

If you are a very good heli pilot, go for it. But remember, nothing is 100%! Start out with a VW, not a Porsche, as it is cheaper to fix when your heli discovers serious gravity. Good luck.

  • i have one of these bad boys on the way..too much fun!!

  • What do you recommend for a beginner helicopter? I have had been playing with the havoc heli and reflex for a while, what would you recommend for the next step?

  • The Honeybee 2 with fixed pitch will do a good job of teaching you to fly briskly around and stay oriented. They only cost $89, complete with radio.

  • you seem to know a lot about rc helicopters. what do you think of the venom night ranger 3d copter?

  • Some kinda flying Dave in that wind! You obviously have a lot of experience, maybe not with the Honey Bee but with other heli's. Forgive the question but are you the Dave Herbert who 'pioneered' powered tail rotors on model heli's? You must be!!!

  • That's me. How do you know?

  • Read about you in some mag or on the web, can't recall which one, my memory is kinda selective these days but your name stuck in my Random Access Memory!I'm based in the UK so your fame has spread! It was some time ago but I figured you must be the same guy. Not many guys would attempt flying an electric RC heli in that wind! You have convinced me to buy a Honey Bee 2, 4ch not 6, I'll have enogh of a problem with that!

    Cheers, Mike.

  • Cheers back at ya Mike. You will love your HB. I have a set of "Rules of Thumb" that helps lots of people learn easier. If you say ok, I will PM you with them..

    Again, thanks kindly.

  • That's very kind of you Dave, I would welcome a set of the 'Rules of Thumb' - I'm gonna need all the help I can get! I'm a former pilot, fixed wing not rotary, & models are a darn sight harder to fly than the 'real thing', it's an orientation issue. Thanks again Dave.

    Mike.

  • Hi, this is roy from australia. I have one 22E walkera and found it hard to control. I'm totally a newbie in this hobby, would you mind sharing your "rules of thumb"? thanks a lot.

  • Hi Roy,

Yep, nothing is easy at first. Just hang in there and you will get it. My "Rules of thumb" are on their way.

    Hope it helps.

  • Thanks mate, that's very useful advices!!! i fly my heli outdoor, windy always (no choice as i can't find a big hall to fly it). Maybe that makes hovering a hell for a newbie like me, it just drifts unexpectedly and led to crashes. Learning curve's been slowed down on fixing the broken parts. However, i will never give up and look forwards to the day i can fly my heli as good as you!!!! appreciate your advices and thanks again.

  • Your welcome. If it drifts, you must be in charge and control of it! You fly it, do not let if fly you! It is always windy here too, and makes it hard to learn in the beginning. Just look at it like the helicopter slides around. Keep the nose away from you and keep it from sliding with the TX.

  • yeah you are totally right, i feel like the heli flies me rather than i fly it! learning is hard but fun and challenging. Gotta turn in and get back to college's life tomorrow, have a good day ^-^

  • Nice flying in the wind.

  • Thanks.

  • very cool video! and you pilot very well! I have one just like this one.

  • Thank you kindly.

  • Higher than you can see. And if you cant see it, you cant fly it.

  • how high can it fly?

  • Great vid Dave and hat off to you flyin it at those windy condition...

  • Thank you kindly.

  • 5* nice video & flying. planing on gettin one of these but am broke at the moment cuz i bought a cessna 182 from parkflyers . com

  • About the same, but I find the HB a little more stable in flight with wooden blades. Plus mine came with 2 LiPo batteries, and that was a plus which made my desision easy. HB was the first CCPM on the mass market.

  • what should i typpe in by ebay?

  • Honeybee ccpm helicopter.

  • Honey Bee Electric RC Helicopter Dave how compare the The Blade CP Pro to the Honey Bee

  • Hey Dave great video love it.Please send me that link whenever you have a chance thanks again.

  • Hell yeah Dave. For 110 bucks? Very good deal. Seems stable in the wind. i like it. I have some questions for you then. Have a great weekend!

  • Cool video.5 stars.
