  • im learning to hopefully play this saturday im 19 and have always wanted to play just have never had the time

  • @d3athbRinger Same. Like literally. Once a friend asked me to play, I said yes. It never happend. I'm now reading the books and am going to try to play for the first time over facebook. Who knows, I might start a new way to play.

  • @Chibichibipause i meant to say im level 1 but any ways ive looked through all of the books and even did the single player stuff so im looking forward to it

  • @Chibichibipause Try the Virtual Tabletop on DnD Insider if you can afford a few dollars a month - it's totally worth it. Comes with access to all DnD stuff and materials for 4th edition EVER made - except for campaign settings and such.

Or, you can always do instant messenger. I've run games that way and it works. Or RPOL.net, or Rondak's Portal.

  • what character sheet is that

  • Wish I lived in an area I could just go run a game for a group a people.

  • We used first edition the books with the sometimes crappy artwork and almost never used miniatures if I were to get back into it I would want to go old school you can keep filthy 4th edition ect ect

  • Some of the best D&D games I've ever played were run by people who have never run a game before. And if they have played, they had a very crude grasp of the "rules". The games were raw, and there was never any fighting over the rules. What the DM says goes. And they were way fun.

  • Now this is nostalgic...

  • lol I play DND by myself and its fantastic!

  • -we just draw lots and lots, on the spot, to explain the situation, and try to communicate verbally about it. We're all musicians, and in school for some form of art or design (even if we're just in high school), and are just generally really close, and all love storytelling. I'm sad we didn't start before. And we're all SOMEWHAT geeks, concidering we all love tech and such, but we're not the type you'd except to be playing dnd. I really hope dnd gets more attention, because it's simply amazing.

  • I'm 15, and started playing just under 2 weeks ago, with 3 really close friends, only one of which has played before the other 2. He naturally DM'ed my first game, which was just me, then we have a campaign together, which he DM's, but we're also going to try and put together our own campaigns for the future, to try out the role of DM. I've found that we all love to both play, and to DM. We use 3.5, but we took a little bit of a different approach. We don't use movement squares, or miniatures-

  • how do you level up, the exp, does the dm choose the xp eachmonster gives?

  • @scotchtapeinasia If you are playing as an adventurer and not DM, then you shouldn't have to worry about it. Most likely your whole group is gaining shared experience and levels together, and your DM will let you know. Each monster has a set amount of experience that it gives.

  • WHERE CAN I GET THIS EXCEL SHEET?

  • Hey...i love looking at others ideas and creating my own. Do you think you could put a link in the description. Thanks! :)

  • BUT.......although i prefer the DnD video games..if i were to play the board game..id defo excell as a dungeon master....my dungeons would be incredible lol!...

players would be pulling their hair out all over the place..

  • @iCOOLFACE it's not about difficulty. look up videos of how Chris Perkins DMs. he's the best i've ever seen.

    watch this /watch?v=uqXqK3ZlqWI&feature=channel_video_title

  • I haven't played D&D for 3 years cause everybody doing 4.0 I tried it twice and I didn't enjoy it at all and I fear I'll never find 3.5 game ever

  • superstar pose 3:27 - 3:29

  • LOL THE LIGHTNING SPELL GUY FTW

  • I like how the "if you're broke" alternative involves using money :)

  • Unholy 4th edition!

  • I might try playing D&D, though I've never played it before. Always worth a try.

  • so fucking cool omg

  • yeah hes correct at the end, with my friends we play with dice. thats it just dice.

  • Theres been times where my friends didn't have dice, miniatures, or hardly a map. We just used our imagination and that was all we needed to stay up for a good 4 hours and play it on-the-fly ^.^

  • I'm next Gen and I plan to begin playing, there is hope yet! :)

  • Too much information is never good. I'm running Dark Heresy at the moment and my players have done every mission so far, but avoided doing them in a my intended manner. They split the party into 5 components. My god.

  • I shall take up the mantle of DMing!!! I love D&D. Good times, beats the piss out of video games for me (unless it is Ookami or FF9 :P)

  • i have a question abot dnd 4th ed attacks exaple pearcing strike attack has 2(w) wat is 2 W pleas help

  • I play without minis (3.5 edition)

Do minis make the game easier, I think it would be more of a hassle (I can take the work but I'm not very time organised) having to deal with range and maps?

  • completely broke. bunch of coins

    wat

  • @147brisingr I'm 13 and not that kid with no friends to 5 friends. I think D&D is awesome, and just need to watch some regulars play. I think DM'ing is just as, if not more, fun than playing.

  • Dude with the paper cutouts seems a bit ocd...hell most games we don't even use mini's!

    Love the vids though!

  • how can i get his excel sheet? *DROOL*

  • I love this video but when the guy is like "Here's something you can do when your completely broke." I lol'd. Why?

When you're completely broke, you get out coins to put paper on and write on it.

How do you have coins if your broke?

    LOL

  • has anyone considered playing over skype?

  • @shawt192 I have been playing D&D over Skype for over a year. It works extremely well.

  • I like his logic: youre broke...so use MONEY for your bases...

  • @MajorLeagueDoorKickr try not to be so critical. it's cheaper to play that way than to spend $2 on a common miniature. or $10-$40 for a set.

  • this is old schoo thats wat i like obout it

  • penny arcade shirt <3

  • i dont play yet cause i dont have anything to play or friends but i plan for every campaign i have to be my own

  • (From a 39 year old dude who hasn't played since 1982...and even then, despite owning the old school Basic and Expert sets, I didn't play much) How do you play now? Do you still use modules, or is everything home brew ? What role do computers play? I'm suddenly intrigued as hell, as I peruse a copy of the 3.5 Players Handbook.

  • @mikper7 With 4th Edition, I (as DM) have my laptop sitting next to me to reference anything off the DDI compendium (items, monsters, etc), as well as references to maps for me to draw onto the battlemat on the table. Character Builder (old one, not the new online one) loaded incase they decide to visit shops. Currently we're running one of the Modules out of Dungeon (Scales of War), but otherwise I run homebrew.

  • @arkaziel Cool, thanks my friend. So I should be perusing the 4th edition Players handbook? I am currently shooting to get through 10 pages a day of 3.5...but if no one plays that anymore (are they that different?)

  • wow... anyone know where I can get that Excel sheet he uses for monsters?

  • It will be really dissapointing if the next generation don't play Dungeons and Dragons. Nothing beats the thrill of a game that has unlimited creative potential, where you can choose to do anything imaginable, and learn new things from the choices that other players make. It will be a huge loss to society.

  • @147brisingr

I think if they can transfer the experience well over to a online format that it will have a long future. Right now, I dont think model, books etc sales will increase that much. I dont play other DnD games than those on PC, but since titles like Arcanum and the first Fallout series I have to admit I miss those "less action" oriented rpgs. Where story and interaction was more interesting. DnD does character interaction, because of the DM, better than any game could.

  • @147brisingr It's the MMO's that kill D&D. Kid's these days are too lazy to roll dice and do the calculations themselves. They'd rather meet a "24 year-old level 41 female half-orc cleric" over 9000 miles away, in the comfort of their own basement instead of building social and math skills and meeting local people who you can verify are who they say they are.

I hate technology, in this sense.

  • @147brisingr im 12 and im tryin to make this happen

  • @147brisingr I, a 12 year old, am trying to get my group of friends into d&d. It is hard to find someone to play with.

  • @147brisingr True, true greetings from Germany!

  • @147brisingr well i am interested in D&D, of course i am new to the game, but there are to many people who mock nerds and geeks because they are (to be nicer) idiots with no imagination who, by the looks of it, do not plan on playing D&D like i plan on hopefully playing it

  • @147brisingr Yeah i'm 13 and i'm starting to get into Dungeons&Dragons and trying out DMing but as far as i know NO ONE ELSE in my school plays D&D so yeah :(

  • @pandaviewer1997 were you live? i might be interested my group stopped because people kept no showing stopped showing and showing again

  • @147brisingr im fifteen and am just starting... am i considered the new generation? haha

  • @147brisingr rest assured , im 13 and me and my friends have been playing dnd for about a year now , we dont plan on stopping :)

  • @147brisingr Just for the record, as part of the next generation, we play plenty of D&D, Pathfinder and the like, you guys did a good job of hooking us :P thanks very much :D

  • @147brisingr would not be a loose to society its just a game dont try to put a deeper meaning into it dude haha

  • @147brisingr Unfortunately, the next generation already doesn't care about D&D. Their reasoning? Well why play that when games like Dragon Age have so many choices!? I love video games but come on.

  • @147brisingr I'm in the newer generation, and I have 5 or 6 friends who play D&D, but there's not many people who actually enjoy RPing, as it's "nerdy" and "idiotic." a huge part of the new generation enjoys Call of Duty and Halo too much to focus on things like this. I'm trying to get my school to have a club after school for D&D, but that's about all that can happen, sadly. The new generation needs to focus on real games again.

  • @147brisingr

I'm 17, my sister is 19, and here friends range from 19-25.

They play D&D 2-3 times per week, with 4-9 hour sessions a time.

I played my first game today (10AM till 9PM :P), and next year I will join their Students Society to play with them :)

So this next generation is playing, and I'm addicted already :)

  • @147brisingr i'm 13 and i have found another group my age that plays. playing my first game soon!

  • @147brisingr sounds like you need to play NWN

  • @147brisingr I want to play...

  • @147brisingr 200+ hours per elder scrolls game is enough for anyone

  • 2ND EDITION BABY! 3,3.5,4.0...........phhhhhhhhhhft! If it isn't 2nd edition AD&D.......it doesn't hold the essence of what D&D is supposed to be all about.

  • New D&D rule: Obese people cannot play athletic roles such as a fighter, rogue, barbarian, reaver, etc. They may only play non-athletic roles such as clerics and bards. If you let yourself go and became obese in the real-world, you are also obese in D&D land.

  • I'm stunned by the level of preparation and organization with Excel sheets, pdfs, and minis. I thought I was organized with my binder! ;-)

  • We use Lego-Miniatures for the Characters and important NPCs and dice, coins or other objects for Monsters ;)

  • where did they bought that grid map, i thinks thats a dry erase or wet erase.

  • Answer to rpg problems: Savage Worlds...just saying :)

  • @inlife9 Savage Worlds is not bad, but its not perfect either.

  • well this is my personal opinion, it is true that the DM needs yo know the rules, he must provide just not "random adventures" ive played D&D 3.5 for 6 years, and i really found FUN making plots, involving the players into interpretation, weve laughed, cryed and had fun with that system, and of course applying the rules, i belive that, is more fun to give your players and characters a constant world to live on, than pieces of a world that never ever, has something else to give.

  • that excell sheet is awesome!

  • Nehh, new D&D seems cool...looking forward to playing it...but for me, it's classic D&D, or my own roleplay :-/.

  • can't wait to trash all my stuff now for D@D10.9 edition

  • what was the name of the home page that was uset to make carekter seds ??

  • 4E SUCKS ASS! And so does miniatures! ruins the illusion

  • @KingObould fuck the haters and the fanboys ps. i dont play dnd

  • I like that excel idea.

  • THAT GUY HAS THE GNOME SHIRT! That's totally awesome...:D

  • Lol I took up their idea, and made a similar excel spread sheet full of different monsters for encounters.

  • can anyone send me a letter telling me were I can find and buy those paper minis?

  • @jonathangutierrez87

Forward that to me if you get anything :D

  • @MrDavinsion same

  • @jonathangutierrez87 Have you found where you can download the minis yet? Can you tell me where you found them?

  • @jonathangutierrez87 sorry for the double post my pc lagged :-(

  • How did he make those awesome paper cut-outs?

  • where can i download your excel sheet

  • Wow, there are some great ideas here! I love the paper minis and the initiative tracker!

  • While we were in university, we were so broke that we used our own dice for our characters and monsters. :-)

  • i still do that sometimes i usaly us 25cent plastic figurines :-)

  • and now i use those paper minis! :-)

  • Familiar is good, the funnest mod players have told me is the D&D 4E mod I made based on A New Hope, where they got to have the final fight against Darth Vader and fun was had by all.

  • Lovely ideas

  • I'll stand by my comment for Part I.

    ::thumbs up::

    LOVE THE IDEA FOR INIT/CONDITIONS
