Ultimately it's up to preference, but traditionally speaking, you're wrong. The 85 HZ would go in the bridge position, and (last time I checked) the 85's were gold. Simple deductive reasoning puts the silver-lettered one in the neck position, haha. Assuming you're going traditional with the setup.

@HerrStoneman an emg 85 never belongs in the bridge position i had a active emg 85 81 set and the 85 would be much to fat for a bridge postion i couldnt imagine that this can sound good. i mean look at the zakk wylde set 81 bridge 85 neck or kirk hammet lt 81 bridge 81 neck. maybe an 81 in neck but never an 85 in bridge. at least i never saw a stock guitar from jackson esp ltd that had an 85 in the bridge.

No, the EMG lettering ALWAYS goes facing the Bridge. If you don't believe me, look up pictures of anyone's guitar with EMG's. Plus, it'd be upside down if you put them in the other way.

In all honesty, I've tried out about 20 different pairs of EMGs in the same guitar and they sound good, but if you want REALLY good tone, go with a pair of Bare Knuckle Pickups. Bare Knuckles are about 40 dollars more but they are ridiculously better.

Guys the reeason why you think HZs sucks is only because their cheaper cause they don't have the active pre amp and that's the reason why most striped down version of a guitar that has EMGs uses HZs it's just to get the same tone if you've ever read the intro on HZ' on EMGs web you'll know that there're just the same as EMGs HZs are NOT like Duncan Designed there's actually another series that are "Deisgned by EMG" If you still doubt about it Check Alexi Laiho's Sigature HZ

Hi there, i just have a question, i have an esp ec-50 and usually the top pickup selector switch controls the bridge pickup, but in my case the top seems to control the neck instead, i got this guitar seconds hand, maybe they installed it wrong? is there any way that i can have the top selector switch control the bridge instead of the neck? thanks
