Dont forget that Harry Gregson-Williams were a major contributer to this movies score, who wrote as much if not more of the sheet music than Hanz Zimmer did..
Well Mr. Sinclair, you've probably got no FUCKING idea what I'm talking about! By your 9th birthday, I was running BlackOps into China and my men were responsible for over two-hundred enemy kills. Now someone put some rigging tape over Mr. Sinclair's mouth, he's wasting my time!
Harry G-W is that guy. Listen to his work in Metal Gear Solid and The Lion the witch and the Wardrobe, Man on Fire and Enemy of the State. His style is just epic and is wasted on things like the Shrek movies
@STARWARSFAN921 The songs is filled with raw action, dramatic sound and its badass. And thats what Metal Gear Solid is. For not to mention Solid Snake himself. And The Rock isn't that different from the Shadow Moses incident. Both stories are about a terrorist threat. Only difference in the threats is lethal toxic rockets. And In Metal Gear its about a nuke. They both find retired men to handle the threat. They both enter by water. And its going on on an island in both stories.
@MetalGearNerd The weird thing also is that the leader of the group they send to Alcatraz Michael Biehn stars in the movie. He was the inspiration for the creation of Solid Snake. But maybe you knew that already!!
Like all Michael Bay movies, this was a total cheese-fest. Sappy, sentimental, over-the-top non-sense. Then again, so long as you can accept that, there's no reason not to enjoy it
@edinscot56789 Cheesefest when you look back on it today. But then again, most kids who weren't born before 2000 think so.
As someone from the 90's, I can quite clearly tell you that this wasn't 'cheesy' at all back in the day. Con Air was very similar in the level of 'cheese', yet it won oscars.
@edinscot56789 How is this movie cheesy? The characters are very realistic, and struggle with real life issues like justice, weighing costs and benefits, and doing the right thing. It is not sentimental IMO, just imagine yourself in that position. I would agree with over-the-top, in terms of 2 people taking over a bunch of soldiers, especially when one is not trained for combat. But then again, it is a movie, and I am willing to suspend my disbelief because of the other things going for it.

@martellodaguerra That is such a sad part, bc it shows how violence can make people crazy and it also hurt me so much because I want to be a seal when I grow up.
@DaveTheBunny are u sure, metal gear solid is like the greatest thing ever solid snake is just so coo, and the soundtrack is just amazing, but i guess your kinda right if this movie was a little more stealtly
@DaveTheBunny Harry Gregson-Williams was a protege of Hans Zimmer, so that's probably how that happened. Along with Kojima quite obviously being a fan of certain American movies. And who wouldn't be a fan of this one? The Rock is awesome.
Speaking of The Rock, Harry Gregson-Williams also did the soundtrack for The Rundown. The song "Guns" is pretty cool. As is the movie. It's just plain old fun.
@Siresly Agree completely. The Rundown is a great movie to bring up when talking about The Rock. I dislike Cage, hate Seann William Scott, discounted Dwayne Johnson, and I reluctantly respect the cultural status of Sean Connery because he's said some very unpleasant things in interviews... but The Rock and The Rundown are utterly superb action movies that will be enduring classics of the genre.
OMG, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who is reminded(in retrospect, as The Rock came first) of the MGS series, especially the first game, by this movie. Plus, Kojima got Gregson-Williams to do the(big, important) music in MGS from #2 onward, which kinda furthers the similarities.
You are probably right, let's see what these actors might be in the MGS saga:
Of course Sean Connery is Big Boss, Ed Harris may be Solidus and Michael Bienh can interpret Solid, John Spencer is Maj.Zero, Vanessa Marcil is Meryl, William Forsythe is Ocelot, and Nicolas Cage is...
@DaveTheBunny - If you listen to a lot of Movie Themes and some games of the late 90's they all sound like remix's of each other. The Rock, Speed, Metal Gear Solid all have very similar beats to them, and even Independence day and Crimson Tide sound like they could be influenced or have influenced some of the other themes. Personally, I dig it I love these songs.
