These tips are nice, but I want to say interpersonal communication is very contextual; these guidelines might not work for everyone. Also, shyness is not an indication of lack of self-esteem/confidence. It depends. A girl may appear "shy" in class, but when speaking one on one with her teacher, she might be aggressive and ask many Qs because she's afraid that by asking Qs before other students in class, she could embarrass her teacher if he doesn't know how to answer it. Context.
