  • Those pull out regulators were wonderful things. They were far more easier to control than the twist double beat regulator. As they had multiple valves controlling the steam to the cylinders it meant you could get a much better feel to the loco and much less chance of slipping etc. That one shown in the clip is unique to the GEA garratts. You will see the press/handle is on the bunker side of the main handle itself. All other SAR locomotives it was on the boiler side of the main handle!
