Chris Martin is such a terrible batsman because he never got his drivers license 'til he was in his twenties and had to bike to his cricket trainings, thus he did not have any room for a bat, and could only bring his bowling boots in a small bag. This is actually the reason for him such a bad batsman, but as of late he has seemed to be improving; he got more runs than one of New Zealand's openers twice in a row.

As a Kiwi and a firm Blackcaps Supporter (Hate the Aussies) find Chris Martin's batting embarassing. Sure, hes a sharp bowler but I believe that he either has to work on his batting a shitload or simply not be in the team. There are plenty of NZ bowlers in the First-Class ranks of his calibre, and that can bat better.

Having seen Martin bad before, i can vouch for this, he is indeed terrible.

And to answer your question Pika, the point is that he is an outstandingly bad batsman, at test level your expected to at least be able to keep the ball out and play straight, Martin fails at the fundamentals.

Monty is actually pretty good with the bat, I remember seeing him play a couple of glorious on-drives vs the Aussies during the ashes they lost.
