  • Martin, you could always wear the 2D glasses invented by Hank Green

  • 3D films give me headaches so I can't watch them anyway >.<

  • @rockguitar2012 i get exactly the same problem!

  • @rockguitar2012 you should buy Hank Green's 2D glasses. xD You won't get headaches then. ^^

  • Thats fair enough, i'd only really watch a 3D film like Avatar just to be amazed by the technology, but i'd rather see most films normally in 2D.

  • A famous person who agrees with me. Hmm... stop being adorable Martin.

  • Go to the theatre if you want 3-D :P

  • 3D SUCKS!!! END OF STORY

  • His cute laugh at 0:26 kdsjfioajssIOMADSHADJF DSJCFNANSDkjd sjzdbsjb

  • I hate 3D. Nuff Said.

  • He's such a legend. Really nice humble actor, who seems to have all the values of a decent guy. With a boat load of talent.

  • God, finally somebody who agrees. It's a pain, like Pokemaniac321 said. They pinch and fall off your nose awkwardly, when your underneath glasses get smudged you have to go through the trouble of wiping them, the 3D glasses don't wipe easily, if your real glasses are scratched you're basically fucked, if you take them off you can't see the fucking movie.. it's ridiculous.

  • i completely agree with him

  • such a little badass <3

  • good on him 3D really isnt that amazing

  • I hate the whole 3d movie fad and hope it dies out soon

Only reason they still make it is so they can get more money for tickets

  • 3D glasses is fucking huge as hell

  • Why does everything that comes out of his mouth make me squeal with joy? :D God forbid I ever meet him. I would scare the crap out of the poor man.

  • Totally agree, 3D is more expensive and never as good as it's made out to be :P plus the glasses are annoying :/

  • Fair enough. I enjoy it but I can see your logic.

  • Martin Freeman <3

  • I was waiting for Sherlock to come up behind him and drag him away

  • This is a true movie hero!

He seeks the story and cares not for the special effects that drivel themselves into the edituous post-shot processies.

  • Je floats my boat ;D

  • I didn't know Watson was a hobbit! :P

  • I was disappointed that the Hobbit was going to be in 3D, but by Peter Jackson explained that he was going to film it a bit differently than other 3D flims, like doing more frames per second so it looks more realistic, and he explained why it was being shot in 3D, so I'm holding out for the movie

  • Fuck you, I won a BAFTA

  • I practically see everything in 2d as it is, what with my poor eyesight, 3D only forces me to wear dark glasses on top of glasses, I see almost nothing pop out and my nose hurts.

  • @kroozader you should google 2D Glasses! A guy made glasses that make annoying 3D movies into 2D films so you can still go with your friends but not have the headache of the 3D thing bother you. :D

  • "Go to the theatre if you want 3D" Words of wisdom that man. :-) Personally, I love 3D and don't love Martin Freeman any less for his opinion on it, but I also love theatre and want to protect it, and I feel it's far more important for film to have three dimensional characters rather than three dimensional effects.

  • He's like, I don't care about 3D, fuck that, I won a BAFTA!

  • lots of people hate 3D cos your eyes are trying to focus in the wrong place and it gives everyone headaches :L

  • OH, yay! Martin agrees with me! I hate 3D. lol

  • Agreed.

  • 100% agree

  • The interviewer didn't know whether he should laugh or not.

  • haha...I like Martin Freeman.

  • oh my Timmy, Timmy

  • He's a damned lyrical genius. xD

  • I fucking love him. I feel the same about 3D. ahh <3

  • He's right, 'go to the theatre if you want 3D.' Gorgeous!!!!!!!

  • wow ... I mean, I'm English and all but ..... I really love his accent!!! lol :P

  • This man is a legend...oh god i love him

  • @pokemaniac321 I absolutely agree about wearing 3D glasses is pain in the ass. It's very difficult to wear 2 glasses at the same time! 3D glasses keep falling off my face!

  • I hate watching movies in 3D mainly because wearing 3D glasses over regular glasses is a pain in ass!

  • @pokemaniac321 YES I wholeheartedly agree with you. Sometimes it even makes it harder to see the 3D, doesn't it. DX

  • @pokemaniac321 what you just said is my life. ahaha.. just, its so awkward and I dont want to wear contacts so I have to endure 2 hours of uncomfortable-ness.. XD

  • @pokemaniac321 WORD. They won't even stay on my face.

  • @pokemaniac321 yes yes YES. I tried it once and that was it. No 3D for me, not that I'd actually give a fuck lol

  • @pokemaniac321 That, and it's basically going to the movies wearing sunglasses. It sucks.

  • You fabulous human being, you.

  • I think I just began to love Martin even more. OUT WITH 3D!!

  • but the new holographic type 3d is awesome ,gone with the blue and red or green whatever and it now just like a pair of shades and instead of things jumping out its like the picture has depth as well look it up its weird ,like those mad view finder toys you got ages ago the big red goggle things...i cant really dicribe what its like but its more advanced than traditional 3d

  • I agree with Amanda Abbington.

  • I can't look at him or hear him speak without thinking of Christopher Guest's Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap. The similarities are uncanny.

  • I'm so glad somebody in the film industry gets that it's just a gimmicky phase. Plus the fact that 3D genuinely gives me migraines...

  • @muongluonQUARK You could use Hank Green's 2D glasses if 3D gives you headaches. (i'm terrible at explaining them, but apparently they do work, so you might like to Google it).

  • @VegetarianRobotLass I just try to avoid 3D - if the film's good enough it doesn't need the extra dimension! Haha, those are great! I need some - thank you for bringing them to my attention for they actually do work :O

  • 3D does not enhance the movie. 2D is easier to concentrate on.

  • I'm not a big fan of 3D, only because in big movies like The Hobbit, Avatar and The Deathly Hallows pt. 2, there can be a lot happening on screen at one time, but the 3D forces you to focus on certain points, rather than being able to appreciate the entire image. But that's only a nitpicky thing I have (and that's what DVD/Blu Ray is for), I'm still DYING to see The Hobbit in whatever way it's released.

  • Yes 3D needs to stop.

  • I love Martin Freeman even more now <3 <3

  • I hate 3D films; they make my eyes hurt, give me a headache and cost extra money apart from the difference from normal films being almost undetectable :p

  • I'm delighted that the Hobbit is going to be in 3D. Personally everything I have seen in 3D I think it has enhanced the experience. This includes big screen sporting events especially boxing. To be honest i really cannot understand why anyone would say watching something in 2D is the same as 3D or better. How can this possibly be the case? To me that is like saying I don't need to go scuba diving or mountain climbing or travel when I can just watch it on the telly.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 its ok for some, if your one of the unlucky ones the 3D tends to strain your eyes, kinda spoils the experience when you feel uncomfortable

  • @ChaosSandwhich - Yep well for me it just totally enhances the experience. I also live near the BFI IMAX and that is mind blowing with 3D.

  • Usually I'm not keen on 3D either but I think the technology has approved in the last few years. So despite my principles on not watching movies in 3D I will do so with The Hobbit - mainly because it's shot to be in 3D and they're shooting in 48 frames per second which means it shouldn't give people headaches.

  • 3d is a nice change up for a movie, and helpful for immersion but certainly not necessary, like previously stated a truly good movie can do fine either way.

  • I agree about 3d. It's pixelated and gives me a headache. True films can make u feel like ur in the movie without making u wear screwy glasses.

  • Love Martin even more after what he said about 3D. 3D just does not make sense to me. Give me the regular 2D any day. Adore him for how grounded he is. He is totally in it for the work not the trying to hang out with the fake Hollywood types. Just so completely taken by him now. :-)

  • i'm so happy actors feel the same way that i do about 3d.

  • He will change his mind once he sees how fantastic The Hobbit looks like in 3D! We all will! It´s gonna rule all others! FACT!

  • Hahaha the irony

  • YES! Completely agree with him on 3D, I don't know why they're bothering with it on The Hobbit.

And that's the lead actor saying that, so...

  • @jeanmalan im sure peter jackson knows what he's doing and I for one am looking forward to it whether its in 3d or not

  • THANK YOU MARTIN FREEMAN

  • 3D is not important at all. Most of the times it's getting on my nerves: too expensive, the glasses sometimes don't fit and thze quality of the movie is in general not better...in pirates of the Caribbean 4 the colours were much brighter when you took your glasses off.

Some movies work better in 3D (Transformers), but mostly it's a waste of money.

    Thanks for Martin Freeman's honesty!

  • This is the only thing that worries me about The Hobbit, the whole 3D thing.

  • honestly, i don't like 3d either. it isn't much different in my opinion.

  • I love his honesty ;p

  • I agree about the 3D: Martin says he hopes it's a cycle that passes.. It's such a gimmick, and no one seems to care about the plot or acting anymore... I love how frank and straightforward Martin is...

  • Martin Freeman looks like such a kitten but he's made of BADASS.

  • looks like Benedict Cumberbatch in the background to Martins right

  • @BenedictCumberbatchS

he's undercover to get some autographs xD

  • @gottaluvmanga No, he means go see real people performing in a theatre. Cinemas are for movies, Theatres are for plays and stuff.

  • I prefer 2d because it doesn't give me headaches and it's cheaper. Like, half the price at my theater.

  • Well said, Mr Freeman.

  • 3D adds nothing to a movie, i just really really hope it doesn't ruin The Hobbit

  • I loathe 3D for many reasons. One: It places strain on your eyes, and if you wear glasses already then it's nearly impossible to wear the 3D apparatus. Two: It's ridiculously more expensive, for no real reason. Three: It is a pathetic diversion ploy. Movies should pull you in through the story and the characters, not by throwing things and screaming "LOOK HOW REAL THIS IS! DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE LOUSY ACTING OR DRY PLOT! IT'S 3D AND SO EXCITING!!"

  • @WeAreAirborne Agreeing with you 100% on 3D. It is so gimmicky. Movies should thrill on their own merit and for the stories, not due to the effects. It's like the whole CGI mania, only worse because its entirely throughout the film, being shoved in our faces as a reason to see something. I hope Hobbit isn't in 3D... Love Martin Freeman, he will make a great Bilbo.

  • @GottaLavManga His english live theatre

  • Comment removed

  • COMPLETELY agree with his 3D comments. like, every single word.

it isn't even that cool and you have to pay so much more for it. the studios just want to make more money and i am in 100% agreement with martin when he says he hopes that it's "really a cycle that passes...go to the theater if you want 3D."

    amen, brother.

  • I dislike 3D as well; it was a big thing when I was like 8-11 but now it one- Hurts my eyes two- causes me to blink a lot three- Isn't as enjoyable. I don't give a damn if things are flying at you- I feel the sound and effects are what are meant to draw you in. 3D is stupidly expensive and I don't care for it.

    Martin is so awesome :D

  • he is great!

  • Haha, Amanda Abbington is just looking around. They're quite cute <3

  • Most of the time 3D is unnecessary and annoying. But in Some film it just add a lot, particulary in the animation movies. Example: I think `How to train your dragon` is better in 3D than in 2D.

  • Dry Freeman humour in spades...love it!

  • Hobbit's not going to be 3D is it? Bit disappointed in Jackson if it is, Freeman's right 3D adds nothing to a film other than a very expensive gimmick!

  • @swami4ever42 read the comment before yours, then youll know the answer xD

  • Interesting what he says about 3D, especially now that he's going to be the main star of The Hobbit, which will be made in 3D.

  • I love him....

  • Agree too. Go to the theater! :-)

  • Pretty sensible comments here from Martin; i have to agree with him on the 3D thing; i dont see the necessity of it anywhere.

"I don't do networking...I do staring!" XD hahaha
