It needs a side brush to simultaneously vacuum the sides so it can do the corners when it skims them. Also it would be nice to have it empty itself as well maybe at the base station, so it can keep on vacuuming even when full.
From what i gather people tend to use a real vacuum like a dyson once a month or so and let the robot maintain it. You still need to do corners anyway and depending on your furniture other areas may be unreachable. So far its more of an assistant. But heck. its a practical robot. I want
@RisefromyourGRAVE Just got one of these and you're right about deep clean vs. maintenance. The bin on this guy is too small to do a lot of heavy cleaning, but is truly awesome with it's navigation, ease of use, and will eventually get a fairly deep clean over time. Plus, there is now a firmware upgrade that gives you a new 4x6 spot clean option and other bug fixes. Check out their facebook page for a Costco near you that may carry it - got mine at Fry's for $350 and is worth every penny!
i showed my father this, he tells me he would have never got married if he knew of this back in the day,. im thinking now i dont need to get married :D
There is a lot of nay-saying in the comments so I had to add my two cents. I have owned a Neato now for several weeks and I love it. The robot does exactly what it was designed to do and for once the demo video didn't oversell a product's abilities at all. It spins around table legs and cleans the entire house, room by room, in a methodical way, before returning home. I love it.
If this vacuum really want to compete with roomba, you'll also need a self service docking station where the robot gets charged up and debris gets suck up while being charged. This way the user only have to dump the debris once a month. Basically there are 3 improves that I see to compete with roomba. 1. self service docking station, side brush for walls, and extra dirt detection. The subroutine can easily be programmed for these 3 additions to what you already have.
This robot can't compete with roomba. It has no side brush and no extra dirt detection system. All this robot have is slam system that roomb don't have. But if roomba incorporate slam into their robot this neato robot can't compete with roomba for sure. It's a bit pricey for a new robot that you want people to try.
Uses a centrifugal compression impeller which creates sustained, high powered suction on any surface.
The XV-11 has a LCD on top that lets you schedule it and notifies you of any issues. Comes with a self-charging home base thats drive-up, rather than drive-on. Operation is as simple as pressing the start button and letting it do its thing. Also, a nice little feature is that the XV-11 will automatically snug up to its charging base if it gets accidentally knocked askew.
For me this one has a problem: if it does its scanning just once and not in real time (IDK for sure), what happens when a dog enters the room? Roomba avoids this because it behaves differently.
On the other hand Neato saves time and energy (more efficient), provided that the "scenario" does not change during its operation.
@thumbupprod roomba actually covers the floor more than 4 times, equivalent to you or this neato robot running the entire floor 4 times. I've own roomba for over 4 years and it's running just as i bought it 4 years ago. The drawback of roomba is that I still need to service the robot every single cleaning. I own the roomba discovery 4100, which is the 4th generation. The 5th generation is the same thing but the modified it so that's it modular, so you can maintain all the parts easier.
Maybe I'm biased, but I want my robot cleaning slaves to be just like they were back in the old cartoons... with the long stick body, arms, broom, and trashcan/ dustpan.
@Isanion that's because if it's extremely messy because you should vacuum that yourself and make sure your house doesn't get that messy yourself... then you use that robot daily

There's no way the motor in that robot can generate enough power to vacuum anything. You need to go to Sears and buy a real one. Voom Voom!

as you clearly can see from the carpet patterns made by its movement (look 1:55) it does not go into corners.
so infact, if you would rely on the robot for carpet cleaning you would end up with much grey stuff in tight areas, corners, unround things.
simpy take your time and do it by hand!

not keep everything orderly, - SOO once YOU organize everything, and have a straightened floor, then it can happily Vacuum your floors
