Lang Lang is a talented musician, all of you that hate on him are nothing but assholes (including you RogersTz) that have no taste of music. Sure he can act weird while playing the piano, but that doesn't mean that he cant play well. I don't know the man so I won't say I hate him, but I dislike his musical sensibility...strongly. His playing is technically proficient but lacks any quality that can be identified as emotionally salient. Perhaps he thinks making faces and affected mannerisms can substitute for actually unifying with the music on an emotional, spiritual and mental level. My apologies if I offend anyone, but in my opinion he is an automaton on the piano.
Maybe Lang Lang can look a bit odd when he plays the piano, and I will say that he isn't my favourite pianist. But Lang Lang is stil ridiculously amazing, and has worked incredibly hard to get to his standard. Unless you can play better than him, then you have no right to critisize.

Lang Lang is not a pianist Orthodox, but there's no denying its value: if a pianist needs to be smart to know music, it is if a pianist must have an excellent technique - he has if a pianist needs to have emotion to color interprets what he has to spare. The difference: a high load of sensuality in their interpretation. And then snatches Lang Lang who were moved by all the senses of his musical communication. (Sorry, I don't speak English)

Regardless if the man makes a few funny expressions and likes to wear custom suits (who wouldn't?) the man is an amazing pianist and has a wonderfully unique sound. Lang Lang is very active phyisically, not every pianist has to follow in the shadow of the solem Vladmir Horowitz.

To bad Lang Lang's record company made youtube cut the sound out. There are tons of videos of him on youtube that I am sure are copyrighted but I guess they just couldn't stand having his playing right up next to Horowitz's.

lang lang is exactly like every other pianist in our generation. kissin, yundi li, they all sound and act exactly the same when confronting a keyboard. to them, the piano is just an instrument of display. rather than playing for themselves, they play to impress their audience. absurd hand movements, superficial body language, and their vulgar body language is an act that anyone with have a care for music can easily see through. its disgraceful to classical music.
he's still too young...i remember this anecdote: a maestro compared a highly-skilled young pianist to an artisan. he said, you should learn history, foreign cultures, philosophy, literature, even the composers' lives, etc... before you can even understand the poignancy of this phrase or line u r playing here. otherwise u r just like the panel-beater shaping the fender of a car, nothing more...but then, i'm not in lang lang's generation, i don't even know who 'just the beaver' is!
First learn how to play, THEN judge the musician. Besides, was any of you around when all that classical music was first composed? how can you possibly know what the composer exactly wants? he just shows that the same composition can bring out a bigger variety of emotions if played a bit differently. @omugos we more or less exactly know what some of the composers wanted through careful study of their correspondence with others and their lives in general. For example Horowitz and Rachmaninov were very close friends, both showed preference to the old russian style of playing; playing with your fingers (back, arms, wrists) only. Making grimasses for the audience is something new in general. Often it is a way of swaying the audience and not making the music sound better (or worse).

Horowitz is Horowitz. Lang Lang is Lang Lang. Don't compare them. They are different in their temper. Lang Lang is a good concert pianist and he will assimilate more musicality and technique as he gets older. Horowitz is legendary and probably unique in tone and technique. Yes, Lang Lang exaggerates too much and I don't like his stupid faces but sometimes he proves more than that.

Rafal is one of my favorite pianist. I went to his recital in Madrid this year. And let me tell you that I discovered a new pianist, a russian one, his name is Alexander Lubyantsev. He is competing now in Moscu (Tchaikovsky Competition 2011). He is extraordinary, watch and listen his interpretations...Support and disseminate new talent, they deserve it.

Chopin's thoughts are much more vague, personal, and way more difficult to handle..Chopin's work is like romantic literature and Bach's is like serious philosophy...U're easily got lost in the complex emotions of the romantic literature and overwhelmed by 'false' feelings in the subtle parts. But for serious philosophy once you you get the logic you are on the right trail.

I really wonder what the records companies are trying to achieve apart from the hatred of the majority. If only fair usage would be generalized. In that aspect I admire Lang Lang regradless how many people

And as I said on another page, anyone who encourages younger people who are so set with rock and such like to even consider listening to classical music must deserve a big plus. Horowitz was a great pianist and often just "played to the audience", same as Rubinstein. They all have a place in the classical music world as does Lang Lang and dare I say Jacques Loussier!!!!

It is immature to hate to begin with. For the hours someone has put into the one thing that makes most meaning to them in their life, he gets every ounce of right to "show off." It is as if a man who has a amazing family shows off his kids and wife. Oh, all of a sudden that sounds cute and normal. Well, the piano is family to musicians. If artists want to do some thing different and follow their own intuition people consider them dumb (ex. van gogh). The funny thing is that people say, "Oh you don't play" bla bla bla. I've been playing piano for 25 years, I don't have anywhere near the skill that Horowitz or Lang Lang have. Lang Lang doesn't just kill the Hungarian Rhapsody, he invades it like an unstoppable rebel force. That being said he does have better stuff like the Debussy Hills of Anacapri... lang lang is exactly like every other pianist in our generation. kissin, yundi li, they all sound and act exactly the same when confronting a keyboard. to them, the piano is just an instrument of display. rather than playing for themselves, they play to impress their audience. absurd hand movements, superficial body language, and their vulgar body language is an act that anyone with have a care for music can easily see through. its disgraceful to classical music.

First learn how to play, THEN judge the musician. Besides, was any of you around when all that classical music was first composed? how can you possibly know what the composer exactly wants? he just shows that the same composition can bring out a bigger variety of emotions if played a bit differently. If you don't like the guy, listen to sth else. If he has a "vulgar behavior", don't go see him. If he has bad sense of humor, don't hang out with him. Just don't hate him.

Same for music. I'm not a pro at all. I learned piano for 2 years when I was 14. I'm 21 now, I listen classical music all the time. My ears are used to hear it. I'm not a pro. But I CAN judge! Even if I can't do as well as a pro.

@omugos we more or less exactly know what some of the composers wanted through careful study of their correspondence with others and their lives in general. For example Horowitz and Rachmaninov were very close friends, both showed preference to the old russian style of playing; playing with your fingers (back, arms, wrists) only. Making grimasses for the audience is something new in general. Often it is a way of swaying the audience and not making the music sound better (or worse).

Horowitz is Horowitz. Lang Lang is Lang Lang. Don't compare them. They are different in their temper. Lang Lang is a good concert pianist and he will assimilate more musicality and technique as he gets older. Horowitz is legendary and probably unique in tone and technique. Yes, Lang Lang exaggerates too much and I don't like his stupid faces but sometimes he proves more than that.

I neither major in music nor play it absolutely good,but I can call myself a classical music holic,for classical music has changed me amazingly that noone can ever imagine.Even my parents,my friends don't have this kind of power to control me.I love it,that's why I feel horrible when listening to Lang Lang.My piano teacher told me:"Chopin is very simple and he didn't like showing off" and I can see that clearly.But Lang Lang kind of made it become a funny entertainment with poor emotions

He is competing now in Moscu (Tchaikovsky Competition 2011). He is extraordinary, watch and listen his interpretations...Support and disseminate new talent, they deserve it.

@PawelWysocki Why Bach? Bach's work is logical and divine, it should not be very hard for the pianists to conquere. Chopin's thoughts are much more vague, personal, and way more difficult to handle..Chopin's work is like romantic literature and Bach's is like serious philosophy...U're easily got lost in the complex emotions of the romantic literature and overwhelmed by 'false' feelings in the subtle parts. But for serious philosophy once you you get the logic you are on the right trail.

A friend of mine started a YT site a while ago and she never bought so many records. When will the majors wake up to the fact that YT is not a danger to their business.
