  • After viewing live recordings like this, I just have to go see him live. What? He's coming in July? Sweeet!!!

  • Don't you just love music..............so awesome..........nothing will ever surprise me again after listening and seeing this...............and on a Ukelele no less. Incredible!

  • Nobody rocks that mini guitar like he does.

    And certainly, nobody rocks the camera as much the guy holding it.

  • Excellent,but has the camera man got Parkinsons?

  • he just looks so happy... almost too happy

  • Jake Shimabukuro is one of the people I'd like to meet before I die. I'm not sure I have ever seen anyone enjoy music so much. His latest album is Peace Love Ukulele. That's what he exudes when he plays: peace and love. Why wouldn't he be smiling? Listening to this is pretty close to heaven. Imagine what it feels like to play it and then be appreciated by the audience.

  • I can't stop watching this guy. His performances are amazing and his arrangements make all his covers sound like the songs were made for the ukulele. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go find my dropped jaw.

  • I'd like to thank Michael J. Fox for the great camera work!

  • @whybotherwithauserna too far brah

  • he , s the jimi hendrix and jimmy page of the ukulele , i love it ,

  • Heh, I don't mind the shaking. It gives the video a vintage feel, coupled with the sound quality. Matches the song and lighting.

  • Awsome....!!. A million times harder than he makes it look...!!!

  • This REALLY makes me want to go out and buy a ukelele! I have about 6 years of guitar under my belt, so it shouldn't be too difficult. This is an AMAZING transposition of one of my favorite Zeppelin songs.

  • i like the ukulele

  • were you dancing and shooting dude? yeah i get like that too, its ok bro

  • awesome

  • 1:31 !

  • Man that was a SWEET CAMERA JOB!

  • Video aside, the sound came out perfect. And its fun, in addition to the perfect Shimabukuro sound, to see him jam, particularly toward the end of this piece.

  • I think he was actually zooming.

  • very cool

  • What about all that complainings? Just enjoy the tune!

  • danke kumpel

  • Hey man! That was perfect german! So thanks back to you buddy.

  • Great music, Horrible video !!!

  • either shake your head when your watching the video or dont watch it at all and just focus on the orgasmically wonderful tone

  • Jesus was the guy filming drunk?

  • My guess I just really far away and super zoomed in.

    It's damn near impossible to keep it steady that way.

  • awesome

  • this guys covers are fucking legendary!

  • that tone is fantastic!

  • hijo de jet li ! qué bien tocas cabrón, felicitaciones !

  • hey mr. camera man, next time please take the film when you are sober!

  • jesus

  • This whole show was so awesome, I was there and bought all of his CDs :P

  • YoU rUlEz!! lol

  • let x = ever.

    worst cameraman x.

  • I know..

    I feel sick watching this.

  • I like you included basic algebraic terminology into this video commenting experience lol.

    I found it very interesting.

    Cameraman = m

    Skills = y

    Infinity = t

    you get the linear function;

    f(x)= Mx-t

  • hey guys no worries, it's all about the music anyhow. he's got it centered on him at least lol.

  • I apologize, my linear equation was flawed:

    Cameramn = f(x)

    Skills = y

    Infinity = t

    Suck = m

    f(x)=y+(mt)

  • Fucking incredible to get this sound out of a four string ukulele!!!!

  • Jake Rocks!!!

    Yo Jake - you have to come back to The Belly Up in San Diego!!

  • if he comes, i will come. extraordinary talent~

  • he di go to belly up

  • Well done!!! You have to love it to put that much time and effort into it. And you went way past the mark :)

  • what you going to do with a tripod in a live audience? will it even go high enough above people's heads?

  • yes

  • but that would mean you'll be blocking the view for the people behind you.

  • I love your rendition of this tune. Where do I buy the cd? Excellent!!!

  • I love the syncopation sound he's giving with the rythem, he's jurt awesome and I'm in aw. I use to play a song yrs. ago but forgotten it.

  • damn, he plays so smooth and fluid. So much passion in his playing, not ego. Jake is amazing.

  • geez wheres a tripod when you need it...

  • geez wheres a tripod when you need it...

  • 3:36 where he replicates John Paul Jones' mandolin is amazing. What a talent.

  • Sheer Genius

  • That's awesome/.

  • holy shit! he plays so effortlessly.

  • I first saw Jake play with the Makaha Sons in So Cal..... he is truly one of God's gifts to the world....

  • Runing in place and filming at the same time ...not good!!!

  • Earthquake!

  • go eat shit dummerwhore....did i spell that right

  • DrummerGrrrl, why don't you invest in some tape to put over yer fat mouth; no one cares or wants to hear the bull shit coming out of you, you dumb bitch.

  • what a bad-ass

  • thenk you !!!!!!

  • Simply amazing !!!

    The footage however gave me vertigo

  • Okay...after watching that video, I think I'll lay down my $2,000 Martin D-28 and give up guitar.

    Wow!

  • this guy is unbelievable! wow!

  • It is amazing what he can do with only 4 string and like 2 octives!!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite song ever! and this is probably the most beautiful version I have ever heard! Absolutly brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • unreal cover, but how about zep's 1975 recording @ earl's court? - page's high-e (though tuned down to a d) splashes are unbelievably sharp, clean, and melodic

  • The Earl's Court version of this song might be the most peaceful, relaxing song I have ever heard.

  • One word : Lithium

  • word the the camera holder

    try DECAFE

  • haha! that was mean but i gotta admit that it was really funny!

  • props on the video, may be shaking but I glad you got the sound.. thats what really counts ^_^

  • if anyone here hasn't seen his version of "while my guitar gently weeps" you should check it out... it is incredible and how I discovered him in the first place

  • solo, as well as the version with tommy e - i currently live in australia, and i woke up one morning to the 9 network's morning show playing that clip of jake and tommy emmanuel absolutely rocking that song!...great version of a classic

  • is it seriously that hard to hold a camera in place for 5 seconds, other than that, it was wonderful awesome

  • My little S4 Nikon digital camera has a 10x zoom lens with a poor stabilization feature. Now the newer S10 version is very similar but with a much better stabilizer.

    I started out kind of far away. As Jake introduced the song and I realized what it was, I got closer and found a pole to stabilize my elbow. But still most cameras only have a 3x zoom, so mine is more than 3x as powerful, like 300 mm lens.

  • Very Beautiful!!!

    This really makes me want pick up the Ukelele as well...

  • what a bad-ass

  • Amazing.

  • how could anyone not give that 5 stars?!? i love the comments on this guys, its really nice to know other people care as much about music and how it connects as i feel, truly awesome

  • wow that was absolutely beautiful playing....

  • Watching this makes me want to be a better, more loving person. Totally inspiring.

  • Totally. Jake's version is pure, fluid, and joyous. That was a beautiful day of music. Jake also played a gorgeous version of "In My Life" by the Lennon/McCartney and when I turned around I must've seen at least 20 people wiping the tears from their eyes. It was inspiring and overwhelming. He's just great live.

  • Yeah, I just saw him in concert and it's impossible to watch these videos w/o the passion that comes through in them. What a great person, too, just unreal, brah...

  • Unbelievable job, one of the sweetest things i've ever heard.

  • Nice Ukelele, i miss Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.... Wondeful cover...

  • damn you jake. you set the bar way high my man. fantastic cover

  • jake is unreal! had no idea sounds that sweet could come out of a uke!...also, never realised [until i heard this version] how much slash ripped page off (instead of page ripping off someone else, for a change) with "sweet child o' mine"

  • How did Slash rip off Page?

  • exact same pregression; never really occurred to me until i heard this version

  • How is it the same progression? Even if the song had the same progression, it wouldnt've been intentional. Slash made the opening riff on accedent, it was a "circus thing" he was playing for Stenven Adler (GNR's drummer at the time) during rehersal. Slash hated it because it was a joke-riff in his opinion, but Axl made him record it and used a letter to his girlfriend as lyrics.

  • not trying to start a war, dude. you clearly are much more versed in gnr trivia than i...and i wasn't referring to the opening riff of sweet child o' mine, but rather the verse. perhaps "ripp off" was a bit harsh of an assessment/comparison. how's this: the chord progression and cadence in the verse of sweet child o' mine closely resembles that of going to california?

  • Yes, its called creative criticism.

    Robert Plant sang Going to California totally different that Sweet Child O' Mine. He sang it more slowly and softly, where's Axl sang louder, faster and more to his ability. Mind specifying how the two songs are alike?

  • if i thought someone would take offense to my comment, i would never have posted it. my intention is not to engage in a circular debate. objectively, the two songs are probably quite dissimilar; my point is that, from my subjective vantage, this version of going to california conjured up a likeness to sweet child o' mine that i had not noticed before...nothing more

  • Ah, A thousand pardons, dear sir. Next time, though, use more creative words...not "ripped off."

  • u idk take a look. he copies page a lot fezalini

  • sweet, I want a ukulele

  • wow..that is a great cover for a ukulele..i'm very impressed..lyrics would top it off..

  • I saw him when he played at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. I was amazed. I didn't know it was possible to get that much lyrical sound out of a ukulele. Masterful!!!

  • people!!buy from thisboy a big guitar!!

  • no.

  • bravo

  • Awesome, can't wait for his next album.

  • wow

  • Jake rules!
