Omar el sharif changed his name and became muslim in order to marry faten hamama the actress .. by the way I am christian too but your fathers name dont sound coptic .. your father seem really handsome in the song :) .. my father was about to immigrate in the 60's as well but he didnt!

    Adel Abdelazim

  • thanks my dear for this lovely song

egypt is graet any time Regards you

  • This video touches my heart. It represents beautiful Cairo, where we grew and had some of the best times of our lives. We were all proud Egyptians then, Christians, Moslems, Jews, and not necessarily Arabs living in harmony, and enjoying each other's heritage and whit. The old Cairo is now gone, but thanks to this beautiful video will never be forgotten. Je vous remercie infiniment pour ce superbe video.

  • where can i find this song? i keep coming back to this video clip!!! :D,

    your dad is rockin'!

  • Thank you sooooo much for this video. I haven't heared this song for at leat 30 years now! it reminds me of my beautiful childhood back in Egypt and fills my heart with joy.

  • I always thought TAKE ME BACK TO CAIRO was Al Eskandarany's song. NOw I admit Shukry's origional is far far far better. He feels every word in the lyrics and his performance is soo touching. Thanks Chad Hurley for Youtube! It made me know a lot of things I would not have known without it. And to Zaloum I say your dad has been underrated. It is time he comes back with new a version and video of this beautiful song. What do you think?

  • Karim Shukry is my father, and Cairo is still dear to his heart. You may do what is necessary to make this song popular again. Karim Shukry must be remembered for the star that he was.

  • A cool little video. It does have a sort of sweet but awkward 60s charm. I remember this song as a kid, but I always thought that it was unique to Samir El-Eskandarany. Now I realize that his only was just a cover. Thanks for posting it!

  • Hi..im still waiting for the lyrics,,( i can hear most of it ,but some words i cant get well)

and if ur father has other famous songs...post them here plz

  • I sent you the lyrics. It was too long to post here. As for other songs, they will soon become available at Amazon. I will let you know.

  • I would love to have the lyrics as well - I have always loved this song :) Please tell your father that his music is still well-loved.

  • This song is so good..and i dont know why we never heard about ur father here in Egypt befor....may be becoz of his religion

    and waiting for the lyrics

  • Like Omar Sharif (whose real name is Michel Shalhoub) we are Christian. My father was very well known at the time, and I was told he even sang at President Hosni Mubarak's wedding. That he is not popular with the Egyptian youth is a shame. Many talented people left Egypt back in the early 60s. It was a difficult period in that country's history.

  • Thanks for this info...but i have 2 more things i wanna know...

    1-THE LYRICS

    2-r u related to him ?? sure u r ;)

  • I'll work on the lyrics, and yes I'm related. He's my father.

  • WHO IS SAMIR SHUKRY ? give us more information about him plz...waiting ur reply

  • His name is Karim Shukry. He was a popular singer in Egypt in the early 60s. Unlike many Egyptian singers of the day, he sang in English in hopes of reaching an international audience. The song was a hit, and became a kind of anthem for Egypt, and was performed by singers and composers around the world. Karim's real name is Jean Zaloum, a film producer now living in Canada. What more information would you like to know?

  • i thought it was belong to samir eleskandarani

  • Karim Shukry is the singer who made this song famous in the 60s - more than 20 years before Eleskandarani.

  • never heared from him before , where he is now ?

  • He's a movie producer living in Canada.

  • I have a copy of this, on an original Sono Cairo 7"...selling it on Ebay this week...have a look under Karim Shukry

  • take me back to cairOOOOOOoooooooo

  • thank you for post this song!

it remains my father's youth in cairo, in the 60's, and i heard this beautiful song since i was a kid.

i will love if somebody could please send me the lyrics of this song.

  • WOW! I have not heard this since the early sixties. Thanks so much. 5*

  • This is the sound track of my life!

  • OMG! I've been searching for the song for like, EVER! ^_^ Thank you so much!

  • Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for uploading this unique song. I've been looking for it for the last 25 years!

    Adel, an Egyptian expatriate.

  • I Just can NOT believe that I've found this great song! I'v been looking for it for at least 25 years. Thank you very very much.

    adel, an Egyptian living abroad.

  • i love this song!!! i like the arabian flute and the arabic chorus of the song.and karim shukri is so handsome!!!!

  • great song...very very nice..i love egypt

  • A master piece

  • That was back is the 60's. Its a different story now........what a lovely song....simply brillant.

  • why is it different now ??? Cairo ? the song ? both ??

  • Cairo is totally a different place now. There is no way to compare what's in that video and the Cairo of today. The streets of today's Cairo are nothing more than one big Garage, there is no green areas to speak of in the city, and finally Cairo is surrounded by settlements of informal growth and slums which acts like belts of poverty and despair encircling the Egyptian Capital. It's a joy for the eye to see the Cairo that has been!!.

  • I have spend 4 years doing a PhD on these slums and informal settlements that are suffocating Cairo and believe me...it's a joy for the eye to see the Cairo that....has been!!.....oh how I wished if I had the chance to live in that 60's Cairo ...oh....I can only......dream.......day dream!!

  • I dream of Egypt of the 40s ,,,,it was even more beautiful,,but both of us are skeping from the present anyway...

  • the film is great too

  • I left my heart in Cairo

  • Absolutely wonderful

  • Very dope!

  • well done! nice remake in trip hop style, where can i find it in original or remake!

  • CAIROOOOOO, wa7ashtenyyyyyyyyyy

  • Very beautiful song. What is the name of the singer?

  • His name is Karim Shukry.

  • Hi Name I J Zaloum

  • EGYPT

  • egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever

    egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever

    egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever egypt 4ever
