  • twitter sent me

  • i remember that old intro, it was awesome

  • Wasn't this game made by Taito? Or am I thinking of something else?

Anyways, this games looks really fun. I actually wanna play this game with someone else.

  • i played this game for hours everyday when i was kid

  • This was played in the short-lived early 1980s U.S. version of the game show "The Krypton Factor", in which contestants had to shoot a target past a moving stagecoach in an alotted amount of time.

  • As with Combat, Outlaw could be a truly great game as long as you have a worthy human opponent. No AI can match a human adversary, at least, not any AI running on a 2600. The only downside is that, if you have nobody to play against, you are out of luck.

An excellent variation of Outlaw are the ones where you had only six shots that would not reload until your opponent had used all six of their shots. It forced you to make your shots count. Very challenging.

  • Oh sorry didn't realise HE said that fake history.

  • I seem to recollect that when you finally kilt a varmint, he'd say GUT ME! Which was a horrific image to put into a young'un's head.

  • Love these reviews!!! Can't believe 5 people voted dislike, this is a classic :D Thanks for all your hard work.

  • Recently Nolan Bushnell (the founder of Atari) stated in an interview that Atari never had a game where a person shot a person. Sure, planes would be shot down, and ships sunk... but NEVER person on person violence. I think this is proof that he's full of BS!

Maybe he meant that no one was ever KILLED. Getting knocked on your ass is slightly less violent.

  • I love this classic!

  • Red Dead Pixels

  • I always thought that wagon was a spaceship.

  • Color TV didn't come out until 1902... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • @jamak42 Fail it was out in 1967.

  • Great review, humorous, amusing, funny, but slightly spoiled by the sounds of my pet cats trying to open/break-through the bedroom window (well, sorta.....)

  • Why Atari 2600, X360 and PS3 have Red Dead Redemption, but Vectrex not?

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh black an white no

  • if they made this game today, it would be epic

  • the first counter-strike lol...

  • @Nicoluddo damn you said it before me

  • Holy Shit It's Red Dead Redemption For the Atari 2600

  • Cool Game!

  • This is probably the first multiplayer game i've ever played with friends back then.

And boy was it fun.Still brings a smile to my face.

  • this is what playing the 2600 was all about back then. competitive player vs player games. We loved this game.

  • @jchase1970 This one one of Atari's oldest titles if I'm not mistaken. So quite often new Atari owners would have this and Combat. Those two games alone are worth many hours of competitive action!

One of my favorites, however, isn't directly head-to-head but I considered the competition in the 2 player mode as incredible. The game? Kaboom!

Now I am actively involved in an online version of M.U.L.E. which is so competitive it will blow your mind. It is more strategy than shooting though.

  • Outlaw is rubbish. Okay okay I guess having a second player does help.

  • Ever notice it sounds like they're saying "Ow..." when someone gets hit?

  • This is easily the funniest review that doesn't feature Stella. Love it :)

  • cool

  • i loved this game....there was also a very similar game for the same system, i remember shooting through moving walls

  • Is this Battlefield Bad Company 2?

  • So that's how Ocelot mastered those ricochet shots! Well, either that or a speedy mind for geometry.

Liked the fake history bits, too.

  • 1:25

  • Grover Cleveland knew his Atari games!

  • Hahaha! Love the history, it's sooooo accurate!

  • hahaha awesome vid Mark! ( If that's your name, I don't remember xD)

  • This is what started your cod4's

  • lol when you said personal at 3:09 it sounded like you said pershonal. Nice vid anyways.

  • What is the game levels on this game. You know the switch on the Atari where you switch it to Game Level A or B. What is the difference on this game? Cause me and my boyfriend have this game and don't know what the levels are. And by the way this is a cool video game to own.

  • Great old school 2600 review by the CGR with stock footage too. I know I responded here before, but it didn't stick/got deleted.

    Love the old Atari reviews!

  • I thought the little fake tidbits of history like how the game was made out of wood were pretty funny.

  • You forgot the target shooting parts. :)

  • this game is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  • WOW..... this game is better than Xbox 360 and PS3!! LOL

  • Here's a good site, screw-you-spammer[dot] hell

  • This game looks awesome!

  • I remember this game played it all the time xD

  • this looks amazing for the 2600, needs an HD release on XBL!

  • Classic. This video makes me want to go buy a 2600 and the game to play it...

  • you should im 12 and i have it because i bought one! so you should to actually my dad gave me his when he thought it "didnt work" well i fixed it so i can play its awesome quality games!

  • Good work. :D

  • @WILLWORKFORGAMES oh wow...so you bought one..so now you have one? wow...so that's how that works? lol

  • Good to see a kid who respects old games. Just don't go around telling everyone your age, and you'll get some respect too.

  • Cowboy Kevlar, that's awesome. I think they should start making wood game carts again, I mean, I'd buy that shit. I just need to dust off the old phonograph.

  • lol this was my favorite game when I was like 5.

  • One of the best Atari games of all time. Hands down. Even my 7 year old cousin plays this with me, He really loves it. And his standard is x-box.

  • That tree takes bullets like no bodies business...and floats ...defying physics. Long live classic games.

  • Not just a great Atari review but a great history lesson. Bravo!

  • atari rules! this was it back in the day!

  • God I love this game

  • "sometimes the gun battles can move away from the cactus"

    lmao

  • I have this game! it's freakin awesome!

  • hey :)

this was one of my favorite Atari games.

My mom and I used to play this game a lot. My other favorites were Adventure, Frogger and Donkey Kong.

  • and space invaders?

  • hahah this review rules

  • Wow this game looks so simple yet fun.

  • How do you get all these games?

  • guns? manliness? violence? conservative american values? cinema? you should have dedicated this vid to charlton heston. missed opportunity!

loved the intro, by the way. had i been born in the 40s, i probably would have felt like a ten year-old again watching this. so thanks for the nostalgia trip!

  • you should've had the original game music, id have a better idea of the game

  • haha, great video.

  • Awesome video! Haha cactus.
