  • Charlotte, that was amazing, thank you so much. It gave me chills on a hot summer day.

  • I saw this film when it was first released and although it is directed by Caol Reed who directed The Third Man , it isn't as good. However, Welitsch''s performance in this short clip is simply amazing even if it was her most famous role.

  • Shucks, no closeup! Ah, well, glad even this bit exists on film at all! Very 'Third Man'-ish atmosphere here... Thanks for uploading this rare gem!

  • My goodness! I never knew this existed! Another reason to treasure Carol Reed is that he preserved even a fragment of Ljuba's magnificent Salome! Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you for posting this. Gorgeous stuff! One should note, though, that in this particular "Salome" Herod's last line is missing. I guess this time the girl lived ...

  • She sounds even more youthful than she usually does in this! What a treasure!

  • Of course you are!!!

  • Thank you thank you THANK YOU for posting this!!!!!

  • Fabulous! Somewhere there must be a film of the Welitsch performance made for the movie - where is it! Find it, please!

  • "At least tell me what I'm to do" and then Salome sings "Was soll ich jetz tun, Jokanaan?" such a funny coincidence! Fantastic to see this little snippet of Ljuba, thanks a million.

  • Great comment on an amazing fragment of operatic history! I couldn't believe this scene when I first saw the film.
