Very lovely house, I love the woodwork he does too. I'm surprised it was $3,000, I would of thought by recycling plenty of wood that you could get it cheaper. I suppose he has some appliances that cost money, looks like a gas stove outside? Either way, enjoyed the video!
@paulwheaton12 i found you on jacks show and that lead me to permies and that lead me to your pod cast and that lead me to your youtube i have seen and heard most everything you have done have learned a shit load from you and jack alike cant wait for the shows he has you on because i dont think your a jerk i think you are a well educated man with a dry since of humor that makes you funny as hell dont let the haters get you down keep up the good work
very cool! I just saw a listing for a tiny house/space for rent near me and at a good price, I am very tempted to go and look. its only 200 sq ft and 200$ cheaper then my rent now.
I have 1,860' of garage space alone at my place and as much as I hate to say it, that little place is kind of neat. I don't know if I could live in one quite that small, but give me 600' of home, completely off grid, and I'm pretty sure I could make it work...providing that I still had internet : )
These houses are nothing but another progressive fad that do not back the basic beliefs they claim to have. If people are so concerned about capitalism, consumerism, being green, recycling, and doing things for less..there are thousands of great travel trailers up for sale in this country every single day. $2000 & you got the whole thing..give the rest of your money to a homeless person. Done
well, to tell the truth...that house that the 'hobbit' lived in ...LOTR...! Me thought it was cool..ONLY...I work on houses that have subterrainian water problems..., ya know what I mean...hard to keep the damp out, let alone the water...esp after a 13" rain like we had in central Pa 2 weeks ago..., jest a'thinkin....
@1971mgb Seems that for a whole lot less effort & trouble a simple used travel trailer (pick you length) would provide a base with toilet & indoor cooking during poor weather. But maybe your right, I'm just not hippy enough.
Ya know if you had bunks beds like we had shipboard in the Navy. They had a clothes storage locker under the matress and were 3 bunks high. Just thinking
@isabstmr NO, because your home is a reflection of you, the owner. You are sending a message to your neighbors and friends. It's all about you and what you want people to think of you. Not that this a a bad thing.

Yes,although it depends on how judgmental the observer is.
It's not all about you and what you want people to think about you.
That is ego and vanity.
Most of us that live in tiny houses could care less. We sleep easy every night unburdened with the cares of those that think your home is your reflection to others instead of a haven in and of itself.
He's an old hippy and he don't know what to do, does hang on to the old does he grab on to the new. He's an old hippy this new life is just a fuss, he ain't tryin to change nobody he's just tryin real hard to adjust.
My tiny house is north of Seattle,Wa. The day I completed my last tiny house and moved in 2 years ago it was a cold February day 19F. The tiny house is fully insulated like the Wizard's and at 130sqft plus a 56sq ft loft it is toasty warm heated by a few handfuls of free wood supplied by a nearby cabinet shop.
Small house society has many members in Canada and colder climates in Europe.
If this is in 'Cascadia' could mean anywhere from British Columbia to Northern California. This arrangement would be easily do-able in southern Oregon. Not too cold all year round and very little in the way of bugs, it's too dry in the summer for them and the rain knocks them out of the sky in the winter :)
Before we became Consumers, the cottage was a place you slept, separated from the animals and elements. It's unfortunate, that people have been taught credit, greed and have been relocated from the land and into the Cities. The down fall of the Republic will come from the City Dwellers. "The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land." - Abraham Lincoln
Nice! It looks very cozy, and I like the idea of putting some things outside; you could always enclose the kitchen at some point pretty easily if you wanted to.
@speedbmp Do you remember the old commercial with Sally Struthers, where she asked, "would you like to make more money, Sure, we all do." When Paul says if you like this sorta thing...I always say, out loud, sure we all do!!!! love you Paul!! no response required!!
Amazingly Hobbit-like. But what about a shower and toilet? Where do they get clean? This house seems to be in Canada so outdoors seems like a lot of the year their choice would be being dirty or being cold. Yikes!
@boostedgsrfoadoa some form of agenda here playing out in thinking this guy is gaming the system i suppose - not really the point of the video more on the building of the structure but i get where your going though i think getting political violates part of paul's creed. at any rate thinking we should stay focused on what is right here and not calling out what possibly may be wrong. PEACE
