to be honest, if those people are still getting to you after high school, there's definitely something wrong. when you're young the most important thing is fitting in. but as you get older most sane people realize that there's no point in trying to impress people you don't want to be like. sure, it doesn't get better for everyone. but after high school you're in control over whether or not you're going to let that kind of thing get to you. if the area you live in is THAT prejudice, then leave.
I do see your reasons behind this but However I still disaagree. 1) I know for a fact there is a huge and very welcoming LGBT community as I'm a part of it and being around other LGBT people even if I don't get along with them is still a huge comfort as I know I'm not alone. 2) Most community colleges do have LGBT groups and if not many cities have them and finaly 3) The it gets better campain was made to give LGBT teens hope and it gets better just means you all have something to live for.
There is a difference between realistic thoughts and negative thoughts. The itgetsbetter project isn't based off facts, it's based off making someones day better and showing people that are having a tough time coming out that they are not alone. It isn't about right and wrong

The whole point of the "It's gets better" campaign is that a person's view of the world is not static. I can tell you that my views and perspectives are not what they were 20 years ago. Of course there may be "bullies" that shout names at you from the safety of their cars. What you will find are many people around you who will think the name caller is an asshole. Don't assume that your problems of today will be with you for life.

The "It Get's Better" campaign is meant as a focus point in a desperate situation. It may not be perfect - but then again a hell of a lot better than dealing with a suicide. It Get's Better - maybe it does - give it a chance and see for yourself. Most importantly seek help if you're considering hurting yourself in any way!
I think the message to take away here is that douchebags come in all ages, races, orientations, etc. We shouldn't be perpetuating lies that "it gets better". What happpens when these youths when they become adults and find out that they are also cast out of the gay 'community' for having something that is deemed unattactive? Intelligent arguments. Many, I really agree with(on war, being accepted by queer community etc). Good to hear these expressed more eloquently than I could manage. But I do not agree with the overall message. As an adolescent, life can be hell for all sorts of reasons. As you age, you generally grow more confident and comfortable with yourself and you have more control over whom you allow in your life. I don't think it is a lie to tell young people that it gets better. It is important to do so.

I think when people get older, they just don't care as much about gays or about being gay. I see where this guy is coming from, there is definitely some truth to it. However, it is too pessimistic in many ways. In some ways gay guys are often held back by other gay guys. Why? Actually if it was 110, and went down to 105 or 100, I would say it was getting "cooler" as well, which is a comparative word meaning the same as "less hot". You're equating "better" with "good" in your analogy -- the "it gets better" campaign doesn't say "your life will be great and easy and peachy", it just says "better", which is "less bad" by comparison. You are assimilated. Every thing you do, everything you say is affected by the culture you grew up in, even when you speak against it. And everyone else is, too. Our culture is not perfect but we still have to live in it, and promoting equality and self-respect makes society more open, even if the overall system is exploitative or unfair in some other area.

The comments on this video prove just how much people seem to hate the truth. He's not saying anything bad, he's pointing out the fallacies of the "It Gets Better" videos. They're great and help people, but they do nothing but spread, mostly, false hope. After 19 years of depression, hate for not being normal, losing friends and being bullied, I can say it does get better with time. I've come to terms with myself and have even found my first real relationship after waiting so long. Slowly a dark hole inside me is filling up, the feeling of being alone, the feeling of hate is leaving. I'm finally starting to feel loved again and human, things do get better, you just have to have patience and hope
I get what you're saying. I'm glad to see someone who is gay that doesn't follow the LGBT groupthink mentality and trend. You kind of contradicted yourself though by saying it can get "less worse." "Less worse" is still "better." The point of that campaign is to curtail suicides, which I'm all for. At the same time, it's not going to be some miraculous change, but the mainstream are all puppets who follow whatever is in the media. Since gays have been monetized, people are more open-minded.
If you choose to THINK "It gets worse", then for you, I believe it will get worse. But I CHOOSE to THINK "Every year gets exponentially better than the last year" and it does because that's what I choose to make of it!

This campaign isn't saying there are never going to be bullies. It is simply saying that those people won't be as significant as those who support you. In high school there is such a streamlined view of the people around you, but the campaign is showing kids that once you get out of high school and live your own life you will be able to be in the company of people like you. And the community doesn't necessarily have to be the entire queer community; it can simply be a couple LGBT friends.
It is true that things won't be perfect. It is true that there are people with bigoted, prejudiced, thoughtless, cruel intentions wherever one goes. However, the key to the "It gets better" message is that life is change. These "social constructs" you talk about are not the be all and end all. Things will not always be as they are now, and things that seemed so important to us at one point in life turn out not to have been. There are idiots everywhere, but so what? Life is a gift.

Great realist video!!! I made an It Gets Better For Adults series and talked about much of the same of what you've spoken of. We also need to include in the conservation how, if one is able, they need to learn mental and physical self-defense. Next, indeed, LGBTs do their own version of bullying eachother and into adulthood as well. My only disagreement is about the military. Corporate stores can be bad and the police can be corrupt but that doesn't mean discrimination in those jobs is good.

to be honest, if those people are still getting to you after high school, there's definitely something wrong. when you're young the most important thing is fitting in. but as you get older most sane people realize that there's no point in trying to impress people you don't want to be like. sure, it doesn't get better for everyone. but after high school you're in control over whether or not you're going to let that kind of thing get to you. if the area you live in is THAT prejudice, then leave.

I do see your reasons behind this but However I still disaagree. 1) I know for a fact there is a huge and very welcoming LGBT community as I'm a part of it and being around other LGBT people even if I don't get along with them is still a huge comfort as I know I'm not alone. 2) Most community colleges do have LGBT groups and if not many cities have them and finaly 3) The it gets better campain was made to give LGBT teens hope and it gets better just means you all have something to live for.

The whole point of the "It's gets better" campaign is that a person's view of the world is not static. I can tell you that my views and perspectives are not what they were 20 years ago. Of course there may be "bullies" that shout names at you from the safety of their cars. What you will find are many people around you who will think the name caller is an asshole. I think the message to take away here is that douchebags come in all ages, races, orientations, etc. We shouldn't be perpetuating lies that "it gets better". What happpens when these youths when they become adults and find out that they are also cast out of the gay 'community' for having something that is deemed unattactive? If anything we should be teaching coping skills to these teens and finding ways to discourage/prevent bullying from happening.

Intelligent arguments. Many, I really agree with(on war, being accepted by queer community etc). Good to hear these expressed more eloquently than I could manage. But I do not agree with the overall message. As an adolescent, life can be hell for all sorts of reasons. As you age, you generally grow more confident and comfortable with yourself and you have more control over whom you allow in your life. I don't think it is a lie to tell young people that it gets better. It is important to do so.

Actually if it was 110, and went down to 105 or 100, I would say it was getting "cooler" as well, which is a comparative word meaning the same as "less hot". You're equating "better" with "good" in your analogy -- the "it gets better" campaign doesn't say "your life will be great and easy and peachy", it just says "better", which is "less bad" by comparison. @jstricky1973 that's not the point of the 'it gets better' campaign. its about giving kids some hope. whether that hope is a pipe dream in reality or not, its hope. something to look forward to when you think you have nothing else. and while some of his comments in a broad sense may have merits, his overall message against the 'it gets better' campaign is not only completely wrong, but dangerous. if anyone that IS looking for hope out there, please dont listen to this clown

@dasMetzger14 I totally agree with everything you say; please don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the it gets better campaign and I support what it represents. Obviously the guy in the video doesn't relate to the campaign, or perhaps his hope has been quashed and he feels let down, but we shouldn't attack him because we don't like what he has to say.

After 19 years of depression, hate for not being normal, losing friends and being bullied, I can say it does get better with time. I've come to terms with myself and have even found my first real relationship after waiting so long. Slowly a dark hole inside me is filling up, the feeling of being alone, the feeling of hate is leaving. I'm finally starting to feel loved again and human, things do get better, you just have to have patience and hope

I get what you're saying. I'm glad to see someone who is gay that doesn't follow the LGBT groupthink mentality and trend. You kind of contradicted yourself though by saying it can get "less worse." "Less worse" is still "better." The point of that campaign is to curtail suicides, which I'm all for. At the same time, it's not going to be some miraculous change, but the mainstream are all puppets who follow whatever is in the media. Since gays have been monetized, people are more open-minded.

If you choose to THINK "It gets worse", then for you, I believe it will get worse. But I CHOOSE to THINK "Every year gets exponentially better than the last year" and it does because that's what I choose to make of it!
When something bad happens in my life, I choose to look at what can be learned from that experience to make life better. So... I live and learn and life DOES get better!
I really hope you get the chance to experience life getting better!

@djdoc01 ...no actually he's not right. I have many friends that were treated like shit in high school and now they are the most happy people you'll ever meet. Beside its all depends where you grew up. If you grew up in New York your experience as a homosexual will be different than those who grew up in Texas. @JustinNwokoloo Yeah, but I was treated worse in the GLBT community than I was by bullies in high school. He is right that it's almost worse for you as you get older if you're not white. I like his video because I'm kind of sick of always hearing from white gay guys who are automatically granted privileges I'll never have the second they turn 18.

This campaign isn't saying there are never going to be bullies. It is simply saying that those people won't be as significant as those who support you. In high school there is such a streamlined view of the people around you, but the campaign is showing kids that once you get out of high school and live your own life you will be able to be in the company of people like you. And the community doesn't necessarily have to be the entire queer community; it can simply be a couple LGBT friends.

It is true that things won't be perfect. It is true that there are people with bigoted, prejudiced, thoughtless, cruel intentions wherever one goes. However, the key to the "It gets better" message is that life is change. These "social constructs" you talk about are not the be all and end all. Things will not always be as they are now, and things that seemed so important to us at one point in life turn out not to have been. There are idiots everywhere, but so what? Life is a gift.

Judging by the amount of dislikes, most people get handle the truth. Instead of lying to people, the more experienced individuals should tell the younger generation the truth so that they know what to expect in the future.

Laws against slavery didn't just go away. People talked and then action was taken. There may still be problems but they can be lessened. People have to see the problems to fix them. They have to be talked about. Those videos were made so those kids (the future) wouldn't kill themselves so they have the opportunity to mature, see they can make a difference, take action. Two thumbs up. I love people who are realistic and honest, and this video was both. Not every one of us has an easier time with life after we come out, our parents disown us, we get fired from our jobs, and we become outcast fags in our small towns that people point fingers at like a circus freak when you walk by. My life would've been ten times better if I'd never bothered to come out at all.

Great realist video!!! I made an It Gets Better For Adults series and talked about much of the same of what you've spoken of. We also need to include in the conservation how, if one is able, they need to learn mental and physical self-defense. Next, indeed, LGBTs do their own version of bullying eachother and into adulthood as well. My only disagreement is about the military. Corporate stores can be bad and the police can be corrupt but that doesn't mean discrimination in those jobs is good.
