This is exactly why I will never purchase another Apple product....Anything white having a PPC processor system inside is total junk. Generally speaking this repair will last a couple months and then come back.
@BryanConover I've had the same PowerBook run like a champ for the last 8 years. Your response sounds purely speculative. There is no good reason why this problem would return.
Anyone had any luck doing this with a 14 inch iBook G4? And whether their method was any different?
Tried the same thing with my 14 inch iBook, prodded a few things, and it seems to be working again. I'm still unsure whether it was this 'fire' technique that fixed it, or other messing around.
No, but it was good while it lasted. It worked for about a week or two and then it died again. I've been meaning to do it a second time but haven't gotten around to it.

I did it yesterday and it seems to have fixed the ibook. We'll see how long it lasts. Thanks!

Check out Mark's blog. Works better than before his improvised localized SMD reflow technique. :-)

I've never seen anything like that before. Does the computer still work?

Unfortunately this is really how you fix a G4 with a dead video card on the logic board. A 12" PowerBook was fixed this way.
