Although I, like you, love the old hymns, please, do not give up on all the new music. A time back, a young man left his church because of the "new music". He felt that God had a distaste for this "new" music. But God worked on his heart, and lead him to actually write new music? His name? Halador Lillianas, who wrote many of the hymns we sing today!
I left my church after 50 years, I could no longer stomach the modern songs sung in my church, complete with drums and electric guitars, with the performers in long hair, some teenage girls would even dance like night club performers in the alter, what they lack are disco lights to make it complete. Thank the Lord there is YouTube, and THANK YOU VERY MUCH for kind-hearted people in uploading or posting classic hymnals, special mention is this 'long forgetten hymn' God bless us everyone.
@maxbatch70 I haven't been to Church for a few years, but I know what you mean. My mom's complained about how they do modern things in Church, too. Seems like she mentioned they played guitars and even drums, too, and she couldn't believe it. When I think of Church, I think of Bibles, pianos, and pipe organs. Not rock bands, long hair, sunglasses, flashing lights, and disco balls.
I don't know what this world's coming to, but it scares me, sometimes.
We used to sing this in church when I was a kid. I always thought they were saying Bringing in the Cheese or Bringing in the Sheets. Its a shame that it's not in most newer hymnals. We need to bring back more classic hymns and less "Music on the wall" ( slide show on the wall behind the pulpit)
Thanks for sharing the video and song! I shared it on One Year Bible Blogging on facebook with the following verses:
Malachi 3:10; "Bring the whole tithe... see if I will not... pour out so much blessing" Proverbs 28:24; "He who robs his father... and says, 'It's not wrong" - he is partner to him who destroys." Exodus 15:17b; "bring them in... in the Sanctuary... Mark 11:17b; "My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations
I will agree, and disagree. A good deal of the new music is shallow; but, on the other hand, some hymns that contain terrible theology are still around just because they are hymns.
I love music like this, classic hymns are better than most of the modern stuff in my opinion. I'm not saying that the modern stuff is "bad", but I am saying that a majority of the new modern Christian much is either left up for interpretation (it could be talking about women, drugs, whatever it doesn't actually specify God) or it just seems a bit too focused on us and we than Him. Anyway good song.
I once had a dream someone raped my girlfriend, so i carved their face out with a tea spoon while whistling this song. Im not joking, i used to be pretty fucked up.
I love that hymn! This is one of my favourite religian songs. We rarely sing English hymns in our church (because I live in the Netherlands), but it's too bad we have never sung this one.
@iMyrable We sang this one all the time when I was kid. I prolly haven't been to church for 30 years. They used to give out pins for attendance at Sunday School. I remember the Sunday my grandmother got a 33 year pin, she didn't miss one Sunday for 33 years. She had to get her gall bladder out, then went for 12 more straight years.
Yes, and sadly, rarely sung any more. Not that I have anything against the new music of the church-it, too, is great; but we are forgetting too many old hymns.
You are right it is Great

@whitesox901 I don't know about Catholics, but we sang it in a Methodist church quite often.
