I grew up listening to Jim on WFIL and watching him do the weather report with the Good Guys and the Bad Guys. He still is missed. Thanks for the memories...
Jim O'Brien had a lot to do with my being in the broadcasting business. He did record hops at Archbishop Ryan HS soon after coming to Philly from TX. I worked those record hops and he and I got to know each other -- let me watch him work at WFIL and we had many long talks about my goal of getting into broadcasting. He was a good friend with a big heart -- and gave me the gift of a lot of common sense and experience, which came in handy over what would be more than 30 years in the business.
just want to see some of his regular weather reports in their entirety. They were so funny! "and the water temperature along the shore...." It has been almost 25 years since I have heard his reports and I can remember them so vividly....would be nice to see them again... xo
PLEASE !!! If anyone has any of Jim's regular weather reports, please post them -- even better -- a medley of his best reports.... I remember him so vividly. I don't want to remember his death, I want to remember his LIFE. Thanks.
@lbkgilman I totally agree. I am 38 and do remember his reportings. Funny, sense of humor, nobody does the weather like he did. The man knew the job perfectly!
I was in L.A. when this happened. I was out of Philly from August to October of that year. My mother called me up at 7 o'clock in the morning in L.A. and told me about this.
There will be another Jim O"Brien. If he were alive today, Doppler Radio would be his "good guys" and "bad guys".
I was in Philadelphia watching "The Day the Earth Stood Still" when the news of Jim O'briens death scrolled across the screen. To this day I still consider him one of the best local TV personalities I have ever seen. Jimbo you're still missed and remembered!
THIS is why I subscribed to you! This is priceless. I was looking all over for actual footage of Jim O'Brien actually doing the weather and newscasts and you had it! Thank you for posting!
How the heck did Jim Gardner hold it together during this piece?

Jim O Brien was certifiably crazy. He had an OUT OF CONTROL temper. O Brien was very close to Art Moore, when Art moved Jim went totally NUTS.

@MyBetty111 who is Art Moore? Were Jim and Art gay together?
Dialing for Dollars sucked! and the Pope is a dope!

@LuckyGuu This has nothing to do with the Pope. Respect boundaries.
Jim has always been rumored to be bisexual, but who knows. Moore
worked at Channel 6.

ONLY 2 comments? Shame. Jimbo was the heart and soul of TV and radio in Philly.
