  • For this price you Get 3 Arturia spark!!!! Does Roger Linn make us pay for his Grammy Award.

Comeback to earth with reasonableprice dude!

  • Forget it ,for 475 You will Gate a Arturia Spark. Nice toy from Opa Dave and his sweet voice, but This thing must be made of gold ,and i don t have any,but i know what can do My arturia spark(wwho have unbeilievable pads velocity sensitive feeling,a strong hardwaresoft sequencer...Power pure, and dave i challange you anytime

  • WOW this is the what a drum machine should be like (REAL ANALOGUE) no emulation and it works with out a pc or mac. Its expensive but its worth saving for and will last for many years to come even after you have thrown your pc / laptop / mac away after its only lasted 2-3 years this would last you a life time i think.

  • It would be nice if they had a real artist/musician compose something, or play something substantial or impressive. I'm sure the instrument isn't bad, but you have a bunch of guys stuck in the 70's promoting it with no visible musical inclination themselves. & @ $2,000? You're out of your minds!

  • @mbt101 i think the same thing every time i watch these videos. such cheesy music!

  • too fuckin expensive

  • "that's roughly what we have". So what the hell is it. Does he really even know?

  • Hey Dave,

Why you always b wearin the same shirt. All the time I see you.

  • I wish i had a half a million euros so i could buy one and a half

  • This video went viral on Lesotho

  • You not the first Dave! :) Jomox made in germany is the first analog ! Sorry Dave!

  • @rickykogler Yeah, that Dave doesn't know what he's talking about. What did he ever do?....Oh, wait....

  • that looks so awesome reminds me of the linn drum.

  • @mattmofob maybe because roger linn was involved in developing it :D

  • Its cheeper to by a midi controller and some vsts, but I love real instruments over software.

  • It's not shit. The price is shit. Not many people are gonna buy one of these

  • with this drum machine can you change the tempo in realtime?

  • No one else makes analog drum machines. Shut the fuck up, you ain't fooling us with this video David.

  • Thats great stuff

  • a future classic by 2 of the greatest names in the industry

  • sounds shit. plinky plinky.

  • is it just me or do almost all NAMM videos have an issue with the background miscellaneous instrument wanking being louder than the product that we all clicked the video for?

  • These things are expensive to make, they aren't just price gouging. Ane they will sell plenty even if a few broke synth-fanboys turn up their noses.

  • they will only sell a few of these because of the price, discontinue it and then in 10 years everyone will want one and be crying in their bowl of cereal that they never brought one in the first place when they had the chance. ive seen it over and over. just watch. they have made a legendry piece of gear here!

  • Utter load of shit

  • Can anybody tell me how many drum kits this comes with please? does it has acoustic and synthetic kits? thank you..looks nice..especially for "us" who dont want to go droid "software computers etc etc" and I dont mind paying the dough for anything thats gon help me "invest" in my craft..just food for thought..

  • Although I like it, what is actually new or innovative about this machine? That it is analog? come on. The innovation could be in the soundscaping tools, or the generation and sculpting of rhythms. But as far as I can judge, for now it is just a high quality, high price analog drum machine. To me, it is not built for the artist. Being 'analog' s not enough...

  • For everyone knocking the price, $2k a good price for what you get. I know it seems like a lot, especially if you can't afford it. But look at other analog synths and look at what this drum machine has to offer. ~1 grand for a monophonic Moog - or - 2 grand for a six voice (4 osc each) drum machine with analog high pass, distortion, compression... that can also be played like a regular synth if you have a keyboard. If you'd prefer to spend less on a digital unit, fine. For me this is it.

  • This is TWO GRAND??? Best o'luck selling these, there, "Dave".

  • Welcome to the digital age yourself and enjoy it if that's the age you want to be in. Don't try to drag me down into your hole pal. Analog sounds better period. Sounds to me that since you can't afford it you're knocking it. I can't afford it either but I'm not going to act like some green eyed asshole about it. 6 analog voices with 2 ocs each. That's pretty freakin' powerful . What alternatives are you talking about? And don't say something that requires a PC this is a standalone unit.

  • @TotallyNuss Jomox and tempest are awesome analog drum machines but let's be honest vintage rolands , tama or simmons were limited almost all sounds were same CLAP , PYK , SHHHHHH, CHHHHH , SSSSS ,BOINK , PIJOUUUUUU. If you really think about analog drum sounds go get modular or semimodular synth like Cwejman or Doepfer.

  • @HatredPrime Still waiting for your check. You're gonna pay for the modular stuff right?

  • Great mix of digital and analog variety and control. Cool sounds.

  • No usb, overpriced whack, spark is 1/4 the price of this sounds better hybrid, these will sit on the shelves at this price.

  • @teacee It has USB. You're not paying attention.

  • @teacee Spark?? Are you serious. Talk about apples and oranges. Spark is yet another PC based "modeler" bunch of bullshit. This is a real analog, standalone machine.

  • @TotallyNuss Man are you serious? Yeah lest see how many will rack out 2grand for this, 500-700 tops sprk does have analog sounds and welcome to the digital age, lol what a joke. I am not knocking tempest over all but I am knocking the price, you can do so much more for that same price.

  • listen to dave smith @ 2:30 onwards...he appearently never heard of Jomox, the german company that DOES make analog drum machines and have been for a while, Dave!

  • @blackmanwidattitude Or Vermona, Analogue Solutions modules etc. But Dave Smith is a legend and I enjoy using my P08 although I had loads of hassle with the encoders. I changed them for the PE version.

  • @blackmanwidattitude yeah, it's even more ironic because Tempest looks like Xbase09 on extasy.

More so it looks like it's been made for Paris Hilton... all these blinking lights and stuff.

  • @blackmanwidattitude German company being key here. DSI is an American company, pick up the pride dude. Also, these aren't trying to be an 808 or 909 like Jomox. Love those machines and have an 808 but this is pretty freakin' cool and a lot fresher than the Jomox approach.

  • @blackmanwidattitude yes but in art the story is not the same when you are talking about a signature instrument like this and a copy cloned gadget!.... i have the Xbase 999 and the m-base 01 and are my number one instruments!... any way when Dave talk is looking at you so he know that the Jomox is not an original manufacturer signature instrumen like thist!... and in music copying is not the same and composing from the ground up!..

  • @blackmanwidattitude Not to mention MFB berlin and Acidlab Miami ;-)

  • @blackmanwidattitude Or Vermona they have been for a while also (like 30 something years)

  • @blackmanwidattitude And that is only one you mention, what about the Metasonix D-1000, Vermona Syncussion DRM-1, MFB-522 and so on.

  • $2000= Elekron Octatrack = Doepfer Dark Energy

  • @909Tarik You meant Doepfer Dark Energy x 6 right? This has 6 analog voices not one.

  • But the price is shocking! For that price I could buy several Electribes.

  • @lambd01d agreed- i thought it was pretty rad, but i have a korg sx and i'd rather get one more, a juno-106, and have $1000 to buy whatever the heck else I want (old school analog on ebay.....?). just me, but i don't know what their target market is for these things.

  • This looks nice!

  • @aikighost Battery is good and Kontakt is awesome, but you really have no authority to say that NI has the best samples libraries known to man. C'mon man, that's just borderline INSANE. Tonehammer. Nuff said.

  • @aFireInside1030 but if i ha dto pick one ni would be the one i would choose

  • The Tempest has a USB port so you can load your own samples and assign them to the pads or combine your samples with effects or the oscillators. it doesn't have sample inputs however. the focus here is LIVE PERFORMANCE and i think a lot of people are missing this and just seeing it as a plain old drum machine with stock sounds. the sounds are limitless. it has the synth engine of the tetra so you can have bass/lead tones. this is 100% analog signal path as well according to the specs i've read.

  • @mbrane1 All but the MPC5000/1000/500 have already been discontinued.

  • Sounds nice, but this is not the only analog drum machine out. JOMOX, MFB, ACIDLAB, and others have been making analog drum machines for the last 10 years. I'm glad to have DSI and RLD give us a non "X0X" design tho....

  • Looks great! Can't wait to hear a better demo. Dave Smith and Roger Linn are a winning combination in my book.

  • Now that is one usable instrument for us musicians. Lots of controls, real analog sound. The best thing about hardware equipment is that 10 years down the road it will still work the same as day one. All the software instruments like maschine, Komplete needs upgrading in software and equipment (computer) all the time so you pay, pay and pay again. I think this price is fare for the quality of DS instruments and the fact that this unit will last for years and years. Way to go Dave and Roger.

  • @mattsynth Same argument for "hardware" (which are just very limited proprietary computers) can be made with a "software setup". You can "freeze" your computer setup and you don't have to upgrade it. There's no difference between the two in this respect. And computers will still work many years down the road unlike proprietary "hardware" that eventually get discontinued or break and become harder to repair/replace compared to a regular computer as time goes by .

  • @skizmat

I have DSI products and they are not great at all I dont think sound is analog enough knobs freak out on my 08 rack all the time probably drum machine will be the same wiil see

  • Looks great, but for $1999 I can buy a ni maschine, Komplete & kore 2.

  • @aikighost Thats what I was going to say, totally agree.

  • @aikighost Quantity vs Quality

  • @jgk381 Lol have you ever used Komplete or Kore? Quality is Native Instruments watchword. NI Kontact (part of Komplete) has some of the best sampled instrument libraries available to man, and Battery is the industry standard drum player for a reason.
