Sean Ivory is my nephew -- You should have heard him play my Steinway grand piano when he was 10 years old. I thought he would be a concert pianist, but obviously his better talents were not yet deveolped. He has co- written and composed some really beautiful music.
I LOVED singing this. Their faces are too upset. It's a difficult song, but they seemed to have mastered it just fine. Why not be happy about it?! Jam a little people!
this version is WAY too strict and clean-up. it's supposed to be celebratory! WE WILL ATTAIN FREEDOM! I mean really. smile a little bit and have fun! standing like a bookend will not give the audience the feeling of what the song is really about. I sang this in South Africa with my choir, and everyone in the audience knew the words and had suffered through apartheid so it meant a lot to them. Imagine as if you really MEAN the words and aren't just reciting them.
I may be wrong, but this choir needs some work with enunciation. If I didn't know the lyrics already, I'd have a hard time knowing what was being said in the first part.
@broadwayjunkie123 Sure is, and that is my prayer for those who have physical and mental challenges, to be free and to have the same rights as human being do, that is my prayer to all.
i sang this in 7th grade and four years later, i'm doing it again and i get to lead a part of the middle schoolers in the 3 part round.
and i have a tip for high schoolers in chorus if you get to lead one of the sections for the round: if you can, practice cuing the parts of the round. because come the day of the concert, you'll know what to do.
@ABroadwaystar2534 We were going to do this song as one of our pieces for our christmas concert my senior year of high schoo, but we only got to sing it during practice before hand, because it was canceled because of a bad snow storm.
Our school is singing this for our Christmas concert. The highschool is gets the Swahili part, and the middle school has the chant. The first time we did this together, the hs started to sing, and the ms was like, wtf? It's such a cool piece.
My school is singing this as well. It's a very beautiful song in my opinion. I sing the soprano in this song, so the ending for me is really fun with all the high notes, especially the very last chord.
Love this! Singing if for our choir concert. Freshman choir is singing the trio part. Apparently it was intended for childrens chorus. I'm playing the flute!! And our concert choir is singing Swahili...
my choir did this song, so pretty. paul caldwell the composer came from chicago to work with us the princeton girl choir he was so funny! hehe! yea the flute was too loud, but yea.
That was good but the flute kinda overpowered the sing and it was hard to hear the text...BTW i sang this last year at voices of youth for ICC so I know how that song sounds and or is supposed to sound...no offence it was good and make sure to move and show expresion when you sing even if your not singing so it looks like you believe what your singing
i love this song so much. the high school chorale in my city is singing this for our christmas festival and it sounds so beautiful. we have a violinist accompanying the chorale too so it sounds spectacular. great job girls!
yeah i got the exact same scenario at my school. guys and girls. i love singing this song! i think when we put both parts together it'll be awesome! but we won't be just standing there when we put it together, we'll be moving side to side. it's pretty cool :P
we're singing this song in my choir the Saskatoon Children's Choir I hope we can do it as well as this we're one of the best children's choirs in Canada
They're just wondrous!! There's only 2 things. Where's the clicked tongue? At the last "Ko" you're supposed to sort of click your tongue. Also, the sopranos at the end had horrid vibrato. I think it was sung well!, just for it to be perfect in my book, could they have not gotten a girl's choir to do that? We sung this, I was soprano at 13, and they loved us! There were other choirs but they only talked about the girl's choir and how well they handled the soprano part. These guys should do that:)
