I have some older openers that use electromagnetic relays to control the motor, and a thermal reed switch to control the lights. Could something like this be adapted to one of these older openers, using their limit switches and inputs? If so, what how would I build a board to do this?
I am intersted in making one of these roller door openers similar to yours but I have a few questions. When the door is closed by the remote opener, can you lift it by hand or is it locked by the motor? Also, what happens if there is a failure of some sort and you cannot open or close the door automatically. Is there a way of releasing the opener?

What did you use for limit switches to shut off the motor at the end of travel, or does it shut off once the door cannot move any farther?

@missouristexan he shuts it off using the remote. You can see the light on the 4 channel controller
