@FooChild It's not music! it's called NASRA! it'snot guitar or piano or drums or bass, it's those things where you use your hands to tap it so that the nasheed would be deeply from your heart. i grew up in a muslim country so i wold know that. When the our prophet Muhammad(pbuh) was returning from i think the hijra, the people from mecca used the NASRA to welcome him and if you watched *The messenger* you would that. So therefore it's not haraam but halaal.

You should listen to Brother Sami Yusuf. His recent album The Source. Listen to 'You came to me' and Healing. It's very beautiful He captures the feeling of Muslims in this Nasheed and the video is very good aswell. Watch and listen. LET ME KNOW WHAT U THINK
It is a very ignorant and misguided attitude to percieve music as a form of pleasure and passing of time
Muslims are aware that nothing has been prohibited by Allah subhanahu wa ta3ala except that which is harmful to the welfare of a Muslim individual and the society as a whole. The divine attribute behind the prohibition of music can be comprehended by looking into the diverse influence music can have.

THERE WILL BE SOME AMONG MY FOLLOWERS WHO WILL MAKE ELICIT SEX, DRINKING OF INTOXICANT (ALCOHOL), WEARING OF SILK AND USING OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AS LEGAL !
(Sahih Bhukhari, Vol:7, Hadith no:5590)
this hadith shows that there will be some muslims who will take all these HARAAM things as legal though they are NOT ! and MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS are one of them so remove this nasheed. JazakAllah

And that last "evidence" actually serves against those who propagate it. The girls as is established, were toddlers in age. On top of that - Abu Bakr (r) and the general opinion was that their singing - not even instruments - were of the Devil. This is the understanding of the Salaf. Rasool Ullah (s) here made a simple exception which allowed little children to sing at festivals - and no one would restrict this. Hence, the twisting of the understanding of this has led to all this fitnah.
I believe that only the duff is being used - and this was debated between the Salaf. I personally would listen to anasheed without it - but don't believe it's outright haraam.
As for any other instrument - it's haram. Sheikh Kutty is wrong in his interpretation as it goes against the Ijmaa of the Scholars from the Salaf and the of the Khalaf.
This new modern opinion has no basis in Shariah whatsoever, and falls under the hadeeth "people will try to make haram halal - music, wine, silk, etc."
I've actually had the opportunity to ask two scholars about that. They both said that in the hadeeths of the Prophet Muhammad Peace be Upon Him, it was mentioned that he only told people to use the daff when there was a big occasion like a wedding, the scholars said the daff shouldn't be used generally though.

@y3z4r Yes this Nasheed sings peaceful words, but instruments were used with Idol Worshippers and this Nasheed has instruments. Some people may want to dance or have the temptation to dance with the beat of the drum with this Nasheed and that is Haram . Singing in general was forbidden by the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) except on Eid Days (Eid Al- Fitr). See Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol 2.
I'm not sure singing was forbidden for men, but it is forbidden for women when they are around non-mahram men but they can sing when they are with mahrams or just girls. Other than that i don't think so. Surely Allah Knows Best.
Scholars may have different views on the daff, but I'm positive that the true scholars of our ummah agree on the same thing: music is indeed haraam. And it does not make a difference on it's permeability if music is put in a nasheed with beautiful wordings, or a song with haraam lyrics. Either way it will stay haraam.
I have to say one thing to all those who say music is haram, this type of nasheed helps those who are leaving music gradually, for some people its not easy so you have to take small steps,
can u read a text book in one day? no you cant, and if u do you really probably did not learn anything, little by little you can finish that text and learn more than you would have in one day.
hey music can be halal only if your listening to a song but not thinking of the person that you like. if you listen to it in a fun way then taht's no problem
Quoting a hadith is not enough for a layperson to issue a fatwa. Scholars issue fatwas based on a LOT of supporting evidence, and "the chain of transmission of the frequently quoted hadith from al-bukhari is not connected to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and this invalidates its authenticity. Ibn Hazm rejects it for that very reason. Moreover, the sub-narrator, Hisham Ibn `Ammar is declared ‘weak' by many scholars of the Science of Hadith Methodology."

Offcourse music is haram in islam, but if you can tell, in the back ground is drums etc, and that is only allowed in islam , this is a beautiful nasheed... Mashallah, i love the words..
assalamu alaikum sis, actually i've edited this "nasheed" on an audio editor and if u take off the layers of voice, u end up with many layers of clear music and drums. Drums are allowed in Islam, but only during 3 occasions: weddings, the 2 Eids, and when the muslims return from battle. So i hope this clears a lot of misunderstandings. wow you all sound like great scholars who know the deen very well and have a very good grasp of the Arabic language. Unless you are stop saying that music is totally haram. There are scholars back this case.
@TheSeanSimpson Read the Quran and Hadith. Perhaps you will not be so confused if you rather fulfill some knowledge. Idol worshippers used instruments and nonscense music to dance and have men enjoy their movements which leads to zina (fornication) or adultery. The Jinns (Devils) also form thoughts in peoples minds to fornicate or rather act foolishly with music. See also Surah Nahl in the Quran verse 6.

Alot of his nasheeds contain music even like bells and tambourines. If you are looking for really nice nasheeds without music, i have many which i could send you, it is better to stay away from his nasheeds and as well as Sami Yusuf's.

Further so regarding that hadeeth and the claims of people making it permissible-
The Hadith expert, Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani has refuted this claim in length in his Fath al-Bari, 2/345).
I urge all those who read Arabic to see this -
Basically it defines some things -
1) young girls
2) Song was about War
3) No Instrument
4) not singers - or "singing girls"
All of these modernists are trying to poison the words of Rasool Ullah (s) to fulfill their own desires and that of people.

And that last "evidence" actually serves against those who propagate it. The girls as is established, were toddlers in age. On top of that - Abu Bakr (r) and the general opinion was that their singing - not even instruments - were of the Devil. This is the understanding of the Salaf. Rasool Ullah (s) here made a simple exception which allowed little children to sing at festivals - and no one would restrict this. Hence, the twisting of the understanding of this has led to all this fitnah.

I believe that only the duff is being used - and this was debated between the Salaf. I personally would listen to anasheed without it - but don't believe it's outright haraam.
As for any other instrument - it's haram. Sheikh Kutty is wrong in his interpretation as it goes against the Ijmaa of the Scholars from the Salaf and the of the Khalaf.
This new modern opinion has no basis in Shariah whatsoever, and falls under the hadeeth "people will try to make haram halal - music, wine, silk, etc."

I've actually had the opportunity to ask two scholars about that. They both said that in the hadeeths of the Prophet Muhammad Peace be Upon Him, it was mentioned that he only told people to use the daff when there was a big occasion like a wedding, the scholars said the daff shouldn't be used generally though.

@y3z4r Yes this Nasheed sings peaceful words, but instruments were used with Idol Worshippers and this Nasheed has instruments. Some people may want to dance or have the temptation to dance with the beat of the drum with this Nasheed and that is Haram . Singing in general was forbidden by the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) except on Eid Days (Eid Al- Fitr). See Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol 2.

I'm not sure singing was forbidden for men, but it is forbidden for women when they are around non-mahram men but they can sing when they are with mahrams or just girls. Other than that i don't think so. Surely Allah Knows Best.

Scholars may have different views on the daff, but I'm positive that the true scholars of our ummah agree on the same thing: music is indeed haraam. And it does not make a difference on it's permeability if music is put in a nasheed with beautiful wordings, or a song with haraam lyrics. Either way it will stay haraam.

The singer is not Dawud Warnsby it's Sami Yusuf an plus he has music O.o and only duff is allowed! (according to hanafi fiqh.......)

I have to say one thing to all those who say music is haram, this type of nasheed helps those who are leaving music gradually, for some people its not easy so you have to take small steps,
can u read a text book in one day? no you cant, and if u do you really probably did not learn anything, little by little you can finish that text and learn more than you would have in one day.

Quoting a hadith is not enough for a layperson to issue a fatwa. Scholars issue fatwas based on a LOT of supporting evidence, and "the chain of transmission of the frequently quoted hadith from al-bukhari is not connected to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and this invalidates its authenticity. Ibn Hazm rejects it for that very reason. Moreover, the sub-narrator, Hisham Ibn `Ammar is declared ‘weak' by many scholars of the Science of Hadith Methodology."

assalamu alaikum sis, actually i've edited this "nasheed" on an audio editor and if u take off the layers of voice, u end up with many layers of clear music and drums. Drums are allowed in Islam, but only during 3 occasions: weddings, the 2 Eids, and when the muslims return from battle. So i hope this clears a lot of misunderstandings. Idol worshippers used instruments and nonscense music to dance and have men enjoy their movements which leads to zina (fornication) or adultery. The Jinns (Devils) also form thoughts in peoples minds to fornicate or rather act foolishly with music. See also Surah Nahl in the Quran verse 6.

Alot of his nasheeds contain music even like bells and tambourines. If you are looking for really nice nasheeds without music, i have many which i could send you, it is better to stay away from his nasheeds and as well as Sami Yusuf's.
