You Americans shouldn't be f**king with these things, not even here in Australia do we use them in shows like this, they aren't even kept in most zoo's. They are left alone in the wild and are respected, for a good reason from a distance.
@beatensenseless902 You are incorrect. Even in captivity they can kill you. A couple of years ago TWO trainers in a zoo was killed by the same one at the same time! Both disemboweled.
Just because it's considered "trained" it still doesn't mean it won't snap into it's natural territorial mode and kill the chuckling idiot. They are very unpredictable.
Oh gawd my mom has the exact same experience, I think with this exact bird. They had her hold up this grape, and told her to look into one of the corners. Then they started playing this music that was all "OMG SOMETHING BIG IS COMING" and then the cassowary walks up behind her and snatches the grape from her hand. She freaked out, and fun was had by all. Luckily, I think this particular one is tame, and prefers fruit to flesh.
