@jingu3 -- my comments were addressed to the uploader deleting distasteful comments. In reality, if a person killed themselves over something said by a youtube commenter, my question then becomes how little would it take to set a person like that off in the first place? Not much... For a long time people have talked about censoring rap/heavy metal b/c of the violence/suicide associated with both. I just don't buy that reasoning. Yet, in cases of overt verbal threats, I would accept restraint...
@jingu3 -- harassment would qualify too, but that's the crazy part... how do you define those terms and who, ultimately, judges whether or not something is harassment/hate speech. There are some obvious examples like skinheads spray painting swastikas all over a black church or a synagogue, but if they wanted to spray paint swastikas all over their house's exterior, I am a little less sure about if we should restrict that kind of speech.
@jingu3 -- My fear is that at some point, the power to restrict "hate speech" will be abused and used against those it was meant to protect. Imagine the government saying that protests of certain policies is "hate speech" and cracking down on peaceful demonstrators. You only have to look at a volatile situation like the Israel/Palestinian conflict to see how one man's terrorist could be another man's freedom fighter (and vice versa). I just think the more free the exchange, the better outcome

@maninblack1389 -- great upload... a pity that you won't allow people to freely express their opinions and beliefs, however. Of course, that is well within your right/prerogative as the uploader. Still, I feel that deleting comments, even when they are distasteful, stands counter to the message of V. Allowing free expression, regardless of the content, would pay a far greater homage to the film than your upload does (impressive though it is). Please reconsider your position and just let it go...

@cantecleer What about when your freedom of speech infringes upon the rights of others? How long does your right extend? If something said causes someone else to, say, commit suicide, would that be still be in bounds of your freedom of speech?

@jingu3 -- my comments were addressed to the uploader deleting distasteful comments. In reality, if a person killed themselves over something said by a youtube commenter, my question then becomes how little would it take to set a person like that off in the first place? Not much... For a long time people have talked about censoring rap/heavy metal b/c of the violence/suicide associated with both. I just don't buy that reasoning. Yet, in cases of overt verbal threats, I would accept restraint...

@jingu3 -- harassment would qualify too, but that's the crazy part... how do you define those terms and who, ultimately, judges whether or not something is harassment/hate speech. There are some obvious examples like skinheads spray painting swastikas all over a black church or a synagogue, but if they wanted to spray paint swastikas all over their house's exterior, I am a little less sure about if we should restrict that kind of speech.

@jingu3 -- My fear is that at some point, the power to restrict "hate speech" will be abused and used against those it was meant to protect. Imagine the government saying that protests of certain policies is "hate speech" and cracking down on peaceful demonstrators. You only have to look at a volatile situation like the Israel/Palestinian conflict to see how one man's terrorist could be another man's freedom fighter (and vice versa). I just think the more free the exchange, the better outcome

France hasn't had a competant leader since Charles de Gaulle. And before that there was avoid of a few hundred years between him and Napolean, who ended up killing himself because he became to greedy. And lets not forget Napolean III, in the list of worst leaders of all time he is definately in the top 10. Now Germany, there is country to wish glory for(provided they aren't Fascist at the moment). Or better yet stick with the mother country, Great Britain.
