@Heliamphora1 The transmission was weak on the porche turret tanks, this is a henchel and it had no trouble with the transmission. But the engine was to weak to give the tank much mobility and it consumed too much fuel. But it didn't matter becuse it could just wait for the allaid tanks to show up and the simply destroy them. Its gun was far more powerful than the Tigers gun. If they could build them in great numbers, the allaies would have been slaughtered.

@MDisaster sorry? and i meant it as most of those are mechanicly unreliable, and if they even managed to get to the front which is rare, it would be a nitmare for the opposing force, but it would be easy to outflank them, because the tracks and stuff are still vulnerable, and they burn gas extremly fast, and same with the ferdinand, that was unreliable so it was a mechanicle nightmare also, but like i said before once it got there it's a good thing to have for your side

Even at the end of the war the British had begun fielding the Centurion, the U.S. the M-26 and the soveits the Stalin they could all take out a Tiger with roughly even odds. I think the 88mm was probably still the best gun. The Super patton with a lenghten 90mm existed but I don't think it was in Europe maybe. The Difference is that only the Stalin and Tiger actually were produced early enough to see significant action.

Tank buffs: Why the hand-applied appearance in the outer armor? Was it to minimize light reflection? To make the armor thicker than it was? Or, to provide a weaker outer crust on the armor (to help prevent piercing)? I've always liked this model very much (& wondered about this)?

@neomuttley The coating is called Zemmerite, it was a thick paste that was applied as you see it here, it defeated the magnets used to fasten shaped charge mines to tanks. These munitions were popular with most militaries before the advent of bazookas, and panzer fausts/schreck. The only problem was you had to be within arms reach of the tank to use one.
