  • A nice band. Sort of reminds me of The Move. Of course, Jeff was in both bands at one time or another. He joined The Move during their latter days, if memory serves.

  • these guys are soooo awesome! love love love Jeff Lynne

  • it amazes me the quality of this bands music awesome Jeff Lynne is just awesome

  • it amazes me the quality of this bands music awesome Jeff Lynne is just awesome

  • Great songsmith is Lynne. Check out Trojan Horse by Daybreaker if you can get it, reminds me of the Idle Race.

  • This was never a hit in England.Nor was anything by Idle Race although 'Skeleton' almost made it into the Top 50.

Mr Lynne was taken up by the masses eventually......... thankfully !

  • An awesome early Jeff Lynne creation.

  • Great singer, Great voice, beautiful music.

  • This has an odd ELO meets, "Friends"- era Beach boys sound to it :) I absolutely love evrything about this :D

  • Sounds like a precusor to The ELO song "Nellie Takes Her Bow".

  • Without a doubt, one of the greatest. Superb!

    Onwards with his new album..

  • Jeff was always wonderful at melodies, this is one of his best:)

  • Another wonderful melody from JL.

  • it isn't hard to see why Jeff went on to have such stunning success with ELO and as a producer. Sublime..what else can you say?

  • It took his moving on to The Move to connect with future ELO drummer Bev Bevan, that and working with many other big names like George Harrison, the all around influences are now History!

  • I love this song. The middle break is stunning...what a singer.

  • You can really hear the future ELO influence in this one!Nice!A favorite!my wife has BACK TO THE STORY

  • These songs that you've kindly posted up of Idle Race are really nice thank you, as this is the first time I've ever heard of them and their music awesome cheers!!! 5*****

  • this is a good band, ive never heard them before. the first time i heard them wuz 5 minutes ago i listened to days of broken arrows

  • Its great to see someone so young listening to old music, idle race featured a young jeff lynne who went on to the move and then to form the Electric Light Orchestra(elo)with roy wood, check out some of their music theres loads of it on you here.

  • Curiously, Rick Price after he left The Move - Electric Light Orchestra* recorded this with someone only ID'ed as Sheridan

    * When Rick left Wood & Lynne were recording the last Move album and first ELO at the same sessions, ergo almost any track had an equal chance of being released as The Move or ELO.

I.e. The 10538 Overture was intended as a Move track but finished with further string overdubs and released as the first ELO single.

  • @elofan567 They should identify who Jeff Lyne and Roy Wood are here.

  • You can hear the ELO sound developing here.

  • Amazing chamber pop. Why did I not know about this band?

  • another brilliant song from the idle race - hats off to my old pal roger spencer who was the drummer with the band - Ronnie Greene

  • Elements Of David Bowie in the vocals.

  • great song!

  • I'm convinced that the chorus of this tune must have been inspired by Elvis Presley's version of "That's When Your Heartaches Begin" (also on YouTube).
