@gdirven Thanks for your comment - Widor wrote many great pieces, all too unheard! He is best known for his imposing organ works, but his chamber works are also very well written. His symphonies for organ and orchestra are fantastic, and his two piano concertos (as well as a 'Fantaisie' for piano and orchestra) are being released on the Hyperion label in November. He was a great pianist, organist, orchestrator and socialite.
I have the Naxos CD of this work and have really fell in love with it. One unfortunate thing about the recording is the violin is consistently sharp. Some parts are painfully out of tune on behalf of the violin (the cello is almost always spot on with intonation). It also happens in the Piano Quintet that is also on the CD. The 1st violinist has a nice projection and tone but is just so out of tune.
@CelloMeister To be honest, I hadn't noticed it too much, but I don't have perfect pitch or anything. I think this might be the only recording of this work so far, so I suppose we can't complain too much...
@4candles I agree completely. I didn't mean to critique the integrity of this work and the importance of this recording (the only one that is still readily available to my knowledge). Do you plan on posting the last 2 movements to this work? They are both equally as good as the first 2. The last sounds so much like Mendelssohn. I love it dearly for its kind of lighthearted nature while always achieving a feel of introspection. I actually bought the CD because of the 2 recordings you posted.
@CelloMeister I'm glad someone else shares my enthusiasm for these works. I am wary of copyright issues, so I will not be posting any more movements from the work. At any rate, being able to listen to it on a good sound system in the comfort of your own home is the next best thing to a live performance ;)
Widor's two piano concertos have been recorded(?) and are being released on disc next year I think, on the Hyperion label.
Thank you for posting these! I can't believe I've never heard of Widor until this day...I'll be sure to watch for more of his works.

@advisorC101 I have the whole work, plus an octet (I think) from the same CD, which is available from the Naxos label.

un poil kitch, mais ô combien émouvant

@dulcevibrato Merci pour votre message :)

@4candles Mais de rien ! C'est assez inatendu comme pièce venant de Widor dont le répertoire organistique ne laisse pas deviner ce genre de musique
