  • Lol, 1:13 elephant man 1:15 Elvis 1:21 Simon Cowel

  • @paulsu27 Now you know how they got their looks ;)

  • How'd he get that high?

  • @FireballKupa You need a special attachment, I've used the b-places HUD for this.

  • @FireballKupa as your question is over a year ago in the mean time you prob. fig. it out: called flight feather lol

  • Why u are deforming

  • It's a side-effect of the Physics engine or the renderer or something I guess. The higher you go, the lower the resolution gets and that causes it.

  • ive gone higher....but it takes a LONG LONG time.........and talk to jamie david.....i think thats his name cause he has reached 1 billion or higher

  • That's cool. I could've gone higher, but it would've been pointless for me, as right above 1 million my avatar stopped being rendered :P

  • i will try to rescript standard dash from 10 m teleport to 50 km xD

  • @xMadWarlock That sounds awesome :D

  • how long did it take lol i watched this vid now im trying right now im at 50k xD

  • It didn't take me very long, several minutes. There are attachments that let you go much faster. I used the b.places HUD.

  • i just got the hud but its not fast enough to get to 1M meters in a couple minutes

  • Hm yes I see. Well I can't really remember, I did this a long time ago :P You could see if you can find an Av-Melter otherwise, that really shoots you up. PGFish commented about it on this video, maybe it's still available.

  • lol jello

  • Yup, lots of fun :D

  • Lol, I wonder what goes on in the body mesh when you get to that point. Like, what goes on in the physics and mesh. It would be awesome to research it. :D

  • Yeah, I don't know how it is nowadays high up in the sky. Back when I did this, it seemed the vertical resolution was much lower, so the verts just jumped up and down quite noticable, causing the jiggly effect.

  • whooow does youre avie really gonna look like that??? omg scary...probbally need one off those feathers ;p

  • Heh yeah :)

  • I remember when that used to happen to me! Back in 07, getting orbitted was still part of everyday life.

  • Oh yeah, I remember being orbitted. Didn't happen too often to me though luckily :) Maybe because I didn't go to crowded areas much. Especially in the first few days, I preferred being on my own.

  • i've just gone to 50 km

it takes just under 17minutes to fall back to earth :P

(SL Terminal velocity for my avi is -52.82927m/s)

  • That's quite some time :P Interestingly, that closely matches the terminal velocity of a RL skydiver in freefall with semi-closed parachute, according to Wikipedia. What they mean by semi-closed, I don't know.

  • looks like you melted, LOL! :-)

  • Haha yeah, it kinda does :P

  • lol XD

  • yeah :D

  • Comment removed

  • oh wow, freaky! the thought never occured to me to fly up as high as possible in sl xD

  • Thanks :) Yeah, you have to be weird to do it :P

  • what is the point. Its just the same thing over and over

  • There's not much happening, I agree. I did this because I had read about graphic glitches in the sky as well as avatar deformations. So I tried it, but apparently, things had changed inbetween the writing of said article and my experiment. And all that's left is this effect.

Not everybody is in the position / wants to spend time on it, but may be interested in any side-effects of high altitude, so I did this for them.

Also, there could exist some bugs that can be explained by this behavior.

  • i have that atachment ant when u deformed i got chill bumbs u looked like you had stroke

  • Hmm yeah... Well luckily it's just an avatar :) I'm perfectly fine irl :)

  • daaaaaaang thats cool im gonna go ahead and try to go to that height myself

but a friend told me it jest logs you out afterwards

  • I didn't get logged out after reaching 1 million, but I did have to relog as my av was gone from my screen.

  • I have some questions for you

1 - How long did it take to you to reach the million meters?

2 - Which attachment were you using?

    Really awesome!

  • Thank you :)

It took me several minutes to get there, can't remember how long exactly, perhaps 10-15 minutes.

I used the b.places HUD, read about it on b-places [dot] com/bp_faq.php .

  • i heard that a guy named Jamie david got to 9 billion within 18 hrs. idk how he did it but if its possible he would dam deformed!

  • It would be, yeah! Only problem I had when I made this, above 1 million my whole av just disappeared, stopped being rendered. Even when I tp'd back to the ground, I wasn't back on my screen until I relogged.

Maybe that behavior changed now with Windlight though, I would have to try again, but I'm not spending 18 hrs on it :|

  • wow

    lol

    `-´

  • :) Glad you like!

  • Hahaha wow, that brings back memories. A friend and I once flew to 1 million metres...well, I didn't, and had to keep tp-ing him up to me due to me being faster. That was some freaky wiggliness that went on, it was great. :D

  • Thanks :) I'm glad you liked the vid. The wigglyness sure is fun, I tried to capture it with the out-of-place eyeballs and such. But of course the best experience is flying up there yourself. Why not do it again? ;)

  • rofl, what if a person looked at the last picture and went OMG, WTF, HOW DID THEY GET A PICTURE OF ME?!?!???!!!

  • Heh yeah, would not be so good for them :P

  • 500km LOL!!!!

  • Heh yes, it's fun at those altitudes. Eyes floating around and stuff... :P

  • it almost looked like the avi was made of butter, just before it liquifies in high heat! great experiment!

  • Thanks :)

  • I can go 340 trillion trillion trillion meters in 5 minutes in H1.. getting to 1 million is near instant

  • If you want to go up there, buy the "Altitutde Bracelet v8.5" on SL Exchange, or for 340 trillion trillion trillion meters, IM Sgeo Comet

  • Heh, that sounds cool. Where would you be if you'd do that in RL? Somewhere beyond Pluto? :P

  • ive been pat pluto... :b

  • How long did this take? Fastest I can climb is 1000M about every 6.5 seconds.

  • I don't know anymore how long exactly it took. It was several minutes though, less than 1000m in 6.5 seconds, I'm sure :)

  • Woot?

    Its Make Body in meters?

  • The meters are the height at which I'm flying in Second Life. The body doesn't change, it is just rendered in apparently lower resolution.

  • I miss all the amazing visual effects with the sky. Now the only attraction is the degradation of your avatar- if you uncheck "Enable Vertex Shaders." I whipped up a freebie ride kind of thing for an SL Relay for Life carnival, "The Av-Melter." It dispensed HUDs to quickly fly your av to a million meters. It's been setup again on the South border Abitibi, west of the Librarium (nearest landmark- can't get in game to get coordinates).

  • Thanks, I'll have a look.

I did read about sky deterioration, but didn't see it (obviously), so that's because of Vertex Shaders? I'll check that out too :)

  • Funny!

The furthest I've managed to climb in the game so far is 500km before the client became too unstable to go any further, but that was a long time ago. I think at that point, all my accessories were flying alongside with me, rather than on me!

I might give it another shot at some point now that I have a flight HUD that includes a /goto command (saves holding the E key for hours!)

  • Thanks :)

I read about attachments flying alongside too. I wrote a blogpost about this with a link to that article and what HUD I used. Read it at young-media [dot] blogspot [dot] com :)

  • Nice Video.

  • Thanks :)
