I understand that in the ten commandments you are commanded not to covet, but this interpretation of it is terribly sexist.

Nowhere in the Torah does it say a woman cannot sing her heart out for an audience. If the man covets, that is his own fault, not the singer's fault. You might as well force all women to hide in their houses if you want no coveting.

The men could get aroused, & men are supposed to avoid occasion for sin (Yes, Torah acknowledges that people get aroused, & we are certainly never told not to ever get aroused - just to avoid going out of our way to get so). Likewise, we are commanded to "not put stumbling blocks in front of a blind man," & therefore, women refrain from singing together where men can hear them. If the ruling is sexist, it's anti-male.

@jamincortez, it doesn't say a lot of things in Torah - that's why you need the Talmud. Just like the US needs both the Constitution AND all the subsequent laws that accrue from it. Singing in front of men is immodest, & Jewish women are supposed to live up to the high spiritual standard we hold in the religion. As far as "thoughts about men", Jewish law is made for the majority, not the exceptions.

The stumbling blocks in front of a blind man is not a good parallel at all because this causes harm to the blind man whereas singing could not reasonably be expected to cause harm. I am Jewish too

@FlaviaR I am a conservative Jew. I know a lot about Judaism and I am an active participant in my community. There is a story about a Rabbi who once said "A women belongs on the bema like an orange belongs on the Seder plate." For this reason, I always put an orange on my Seder plate during Pesach. So I know a lot about the sexism of orthodox Judaism, and I disagree with it. I am not uneducated nor reform, and even if I was reform that is no reason to write me off. Everyone has an opinion

@jamincortez i'm sorry this is totally illogical. you need to rethink why your opinion has validity if it has no connection to the past of the Jewish People to Moshe and to the revelation at Sinai and Torah and Oral Torah that we have a tradition for. You aren't uneducated in general. But just like because someone is a doctor doesn't mean they know anything about theology, so to just because you are a Jew and eat matzah on Pesach doesn't mean you know anything about Judaism.

This doesn't have a lot to do with Judaism except for some people telling me that:

Girls singing -> possible male arousal -> possible male coveting

What I am saying is

1.) This is sexist because it should work in reverse to disallow anyone from singing if it works one way.

2.) It is pretty ridiculous to say that girls singing leads to men sinning.

Have you guys thought of getting better camera equiptment? Since Youtube is a good way to show off your talent it's a shame it's hindered by poor quality. If you can sort out a decent camera try getting a good mic and just doing audio and no visual. Should be better quality.
