Do you people even take the time to watch these artists you are trying to copy? Show a little respect and watch a video and learn it right. You're not even close- note the capo and the chords.
You are so right! I pieced this together 3 decades ago before YouTube and thought I did a decent enough job of it. But now I will have to relearn it the right way (if my aging brain will allow me). Amazing that in all those years nobody called me out on it! I confess that when I learned it i didn't care if it was "correct" since I couldn't play much of anything the proper way, but now that I can, I am determined to learn it the Stookey way. Thanks!
@GurneyHalleck00 There are a lot of campfire pickers like me who really appreciate this simplified version. I have always done this song in D because it fits my vocal range and people still love it. Sure, I wish I owned a custom made 12 string and had his vocal talent, but I don't. You have provided a great service. Thank you.
People probably want to learn to play the song as Paul Stookey, the composer, plays it. That means using G fingering, preferably on a 12-string. There is no way you can play this in D fingering and still maintain the beautiful descending line that Paul keeps running through this song. There are other videos online that demonstrate the right way to play this song.
