  • What a class line up at Reading that year.

  • Look at that line up, now thats a line up boys and girls.

  • Awesome. I love the part about John being jealous of the Reni hats in the audience.

  • Could'nt hear a fucking word he was saying

  • @bagzie I know. Manchester accent and the bad audio. Damn.

  • The band had fell to pieces come this time, everyone one of you know it, the band was nothing without squire or reni, only the 4 that did are the 4 that will make it, oasis were far to bigger at this point, fact like it or not.

  • @trimmytrabb

    You're only old once!

  • @trimmytrabb

    You're only old once!

  • can't understand a fucking word he's saying

  • This might sound naive...but what the fuck happened to Browny's voice? I mean his speaking voice as well! 6 years before this he sounded clear and his vocals did (sometimes) too! 5 years later he sounds like fuckin' Frank Butcher!

  • @ucla4eva cannabis mate... cannabis and lots of it!

  • @croesrob Thank you, oh great and wise guru! Where would we be without your guidance?!

  • Don't be daft te Stones Roses formed released briliant records, they split up. It happens

Just leave it, think it would be sad to see 45 yr old blokes on stage anyway.

Just enjoy the old stuff, it's class

  • I agree...hope they don't get back together...it would be sad 'cos at least one of them would be doing it for the money. Leave the Legacy as is!

  • What's all this I've seen people write on YouTube about Ian Brown, calling him a 'Manc Car Thief'?? Wtf?

  • bull shit

  • It would be nice to see the Roses reform but from Ian Brown's perspective he doesn't have to cos he's acheived a sucessful solo career which is still goin strong. Mani is enjoying playing in Primal scream, whilst John has given up the guitar for painting full-time. Reni, who knows what he's doing these days. In the end there is little chance of getting them back together

  • 'kay, so it's always been maintained that Brown was drunk and stoned before the Reading stint that year, but I sure as hell don't see it here.

  • If Nick McCabe can patch things up AGAIN with tricky dicky then there is hope...But it still amuses me slightly how easy fans beleive it would be to re-unite 2 real life long friends who have fallen out so bad they havn't spoken for 20 yrs...Don't get me wrong...the stone roses have unfinished business...But to think they can reserect over night is a no go...

  • Reni left because he had a illness Called Herion addiction, so I think its abit harsh on squire to take all the blame

  • That's not fact, just debate. Over ten years on and there's no proof that he ever touched the stuff - read John Robb's biog on the Roses.

  • Exactly. i read it and although john robb tries to give an impartial view the fact of the matter is that he was a friend of the band and he knew it was because reni fell out with john. john was on coke and it fucked up the band.

  • I've found another reason to hate ian brown. What a back stabbing prick.

  • don't talk shit. he wasnt the one who turned his back in his friends - that was all john's doing

  • reni left before john why does everyone slate john? he left a band that was dying, hardly the biggest sin in the world sure he couldve done it in a better way, what about ian bringing in the gimp on keyboards without informing john?

  • no one is having a go for john leaving the band. but he killed the band. yes, reni left the band first but do you actually know why? whilst john was snorting cocaine and deciding upon songs for the band by himself reni was showing more ambition. he tried writing songs but john alienated him from the band and forced him out. every roses fan marks reni leaving as the point of no return, it was down to john being an arsehole. ian didnt turn on his supposed friends nor was he snorting coke- john did

  • why didnt ian brown write songs for the 2nd album? he was off his head on dope hes also stated he did coke aswell all the band were on drugs if john did so much coke he would have been unable to write music and be productive surely? theres 4 sides to the story youve only heard one

  • STOP BEING SO NAIVE. if john did so much coke he would be unable to write music? everyone knows some of the best music ever written was made when artists are off it on drugs; beatles, stones, who, pistols, oasis, roses.

Im not saying ian never did coke but snorting a few times in your life is very different frm bein a cokehead. ian did write songs but john rejected them so its nothing to do with ian being on dope.

I've heard all the sides of the story but i know which one is the real one!

  • are yu trying to say that if a musician is doin 2 much charlie that they cant operate in the muzic biz hahahah obviously it catches them up in the end but look at elton john - he said that at his worst he was having a line every 3 mins!!! and its not like he was addicted to downers and sleeping all the time, that would make more sense, he was prob awake for days at a time mucking around with all the twiddly buttons in the studio, hence the depletion of the quality over time.....

  • The story of the split is definately one of the most controversial in music. There has been so any rumours... but according to an interview with John during his seahorses stint, he claims that Reni left after a huge bust up with Ian Brown! and the rest was history.... John fell out with Ian over the argument... he may be trying to cover it up though to protect his one legacy! to be honest John doesnt seem to have the greatest staying power, lol. Just look a the seahorses, lol.

  • yeh dat is tre i no coz i was their at duh time and a no it were really difficult to see a band fall apart coz they're woz no kneed for it and they're woz no incestances where their woz their a need for that guy on keyboard n then a knew drummer n wot it the point after that time knew guys just averege and who nos wot they did b4 not roses know good

  • Yeah yeah yeah...I remember them playing 'High time' and thinking it was hte awesome. Wasn't on his solo album though was it?

Chorus went: 'It's high time - to bring this alive...'

I also heard the The Seahorses tune 'love is the law' was written by squire but Brown refused to sing it because of the naff lyrics.

  • Interesting about ian saying john wasnt happy about the attention reni was getting with the crowd wearing hats at the gigs.. Didnt know that, maybe thats why reni left.. Does anyone know why reni even left... official reason.

  • Herion addiction!

  • Ive heard that show and they played an unreleased song called "High Time" Was very very good, shame ian never realised its potential and released it on his solo debut.. like "ice cold cube" also played at reading... As far as John Leaving the band im not sure but i really like squires solo stuff too the seahorses and his two solo albums, the guitar work is so much the roses sound but thats obvious i guess :)

  • Then again i was quite wrecked...

  • I was there...everyone had there hands in the air and was loving it. The music press take is a joke, a lie.

  • who gives a shit if it sounded bad it was ian brown everyone should of been into it.

  • One thing didn't kill the roses it was a mix of things, from the court cases which left them unable to release new material for 4 years, John Squire taking control of the Roses, the drugs which most of dem were doing and also when 'Britpop' came along the Roses were pushed aside and Oasis, Blur and Suede took over.

  • i love Ian and Mani, but i walked away along with alot of people, was such a sad thing to see.

  • terrible audio cant hear a thing hes saying, very poor

  • john squire killed the roses

  • their manager tour the apart not john

  • how did he kill the roses? he wrote nearly all the 2nd album and probably most of the 1st(even tho brown is credited)and he carried the band during the 2nd coming tour when brown was so stoned he could hardly talk let alone sing

  • Drugs, and an asshole for a former manager killed the Roses.

  • yeh i agree and i also agree with the guy below about the court case- the roses were prolific til that stopped their momentum

  • ur just totally jealous

  • thanks for the clip

I was there at Reading and it was shite but they had to do it after dropping out of glasto '95

I was glad they did it

John is nowt without Ian and vice versa

  • Was it really as bad as it was made out to be? I read people in the audience were crying from embarrassment.. but somehow I find it hard to believe

  • yer it was pretty bad, i wasnt there like, ws too young, but me m8 is right in 2 them and Ian Brown, and ive seen footage from the gig, and i was like 'fucking hell, wot a heap of shit' his singing was jst way out of key, and not 2 mention hm smoking joints on stage, while he's singing

  • stoned off his head

  • Q magazine: 'the Jamiroquai years'

  • browns pissed off- pity he went out on stage and had the worst vocal performance ever
