This is the last time Gay has ran the 200m at a major championship. It's a shame. I want to see him and Bolt push each other to their limits. @racketer Bolt didn't just get faster. Back in 07 Bolt didn't take his training very serious, he also lacked the strength he needed to complete a full out 200m without major deceleration. Bolt stepped it up a year later, got more serious about training and increased his strength which resulted in much faster times. There was more to his improvement than just him getting faster naturally..

Usain Bolt has surpast Tyson Gay now which is bad in some ways. Tyson GAy dosen't useually go in the 2oo metres, only 100 metres and 60 metres indoors normally. Because Gay has a big frame made for a burst of power short-ish distances.

At present Tyson has still run the fastest 100 meters ever. So until Bolt runs faster a faster 100 than 9.68, he hasn't surpassed him.

Of course Bolt owns the record his 9.69 is the fastest official time. And that's all great and good for records, but at the end of the day Gay's run the fastest 100 meters in history. And I don't care about the speculation of what Bolt could have done on that day with the wind behind him, wind or no wind I only care if he actually does it.

Sorry Rich but you are wrong. Gay ran an unofficial wind aided time of 9.68 at the U.S. Olympic trials in Oregon, while Bolt ran an official 9.69 at the Olympic games in Beijing.

Again I not on any IAAF committee so the official aspect doesn't interest me. I only care that Gay has run the fastest 100 meter time ever recorded.

It's obvious that Bolt could have had a better time in Beijing, but the fact is that he didn't. And right now it's Gay who's run the fastest.

OF course unofficial counts everywhere except for IAAF official records. Don't be daft. This "cricketer" is news to me. The one thing I will say that would make a difference to me is how was the event timed? Even though, for example, Gay's 9.68 wasn't official because of the wind there is no question that it actually was run in 9.68 due to the timing technology. Personally I would find any time that didn't use official time recording methods as suspect.

I have no problem with the IAAF's critia for offical records. It's important for the integrity of the sport. However you and I both know that Tyson Gay ran a 9.68 100 meters. Was it offical? No! Nor should it have been because of the wind. Nevertheless no one has ever been recorded as running a 100 meters that fast before.

So there are offical records as there should be and then there is the fact that Gay ran a 9.68 100 meters one day in 2008....

It's just like that in court of law there is a different standard of proof required than common sense would dictate we use in our everyday lives. Again for the integrity of the sport sanctions by an official governing body determined under very strict rules are necessary. People end up taking this way too far though. To pretend that Gay didn't run a 9.68 because it wasn't official is just silly. Yes, the wind helped him; and yes it would have helped Bolt too had he been there, but he wasn't.
