  • Shame it has not happened (as far as I can tell), but good to hear this interview. Fingers crossed though for the future. It just needs the Harry Potter hype behind it!

  • @AtmanAwaken what???? its still happening

  • @cheyyen its not happening the film industry wanted to be a PG 13 film but Del Toro wanted to be a R rated film Del Toro say to the film industry fuck that shit fuck the film industry ¬¬

  • idoiots all of you

  • @keelay9003 fuck you then

  • I would love to see "At the Mountains of Madness" done well up on the screen. But NOT in Digital 3D! And del Toro would have been the guy to do it, too. He really "gets" Lovecraft, I think.

  • @RamBam3000 Yeah, 3D sucks.

  • @GoblinXXX 3D is a fad. . . it's the SFX weenies saying "Hey Ma! Look what I can do on *my* computer!" They're doing it because they can, not because it improves their product. Nonsensical story, poor characterisation, dialogue and acting sponsored by Cuprinol> Who cares? It's 3D!

Wait - wasn't that "Avatar" and "Conan"?

  • @RamBam3000 It shows that Hollywood hasn't learned a damn thing since the FIRST 3D craze in the 1950s, when they were trying to get people back into the theaters instead of home watching TV: They made big spectacles in 3D and Cinemascope instead of realizing that they had what TV NEEDED (content and the means to create more) and joining up with it. Now it's the Internet and HD -- Why pay upwards of 20 bucks to go out when you can see it at home?

  • digital 3D? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • well damn there not going tru with it <_<

  • Shame Universal Axed the film

  • Why is Guillermo looking down?

By the way, to all saying Cthulhu has no place in the movie in question - everything is fine (well, as fine as it may be, considering that the film is once again put on shelf - oh, bloody studio bosses): there will be no such deity in the film.

  • @lexgeryon both hellboy movie has lovecraft element, the thing, most horror films have lovercraft elements...

  • Очень жду этот фильм. Хребты безумия - любимое произведение Лавкрафта.

  • Maybe he will eventually do all of the Cthulu mythos. Is a dream, a lovely dream, a dream that is possible, but I have no influence on him unfortunatel

  • Im so happy he is not going to use cthulhu in his movie, its just silly to use him only because he is the most know character/monster. I want the movie to be true to lovecraft stories and not just a trick to sell as much copies as they can.

  • Anyone who's a Lovecraft fan should watch 'In the mouth of Madness'. A fucking amazing movie!

And if you're into gaming, like me, play Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth'.

  • I have ALWAYS wanted to see Lovecraft's work come into cinema! Trust me, I'm sweating (really) with excitement with this coming out.

I love Del Toro's work. He has a way of 'painting' his films. His colourisation is beautiful. He always gets it right, so I'm sure he won't fail with this movie.

  • Cthulhu is not in the actual Mountains of Madness story, but he does exist within the same mythos of Lovecraft's work

  • The movie, at least I hear, got shitcanned. Please tell Me that I am wrong!

  • @DarthVil You are correct, it got "canned" Universal did not want to take the risk on the film.

  • @retronovation7 Universal are bastards! May Yog-Sothoth visit them in their dreams!!

  • @DarthVil Instead Del Toro is working on a film called "Pacific Rim", funny name.

  • @retronovation7 Thank you for the information. I'd, of course, much rather see one of Howard Phillips Lovecraft's masterpieces as a movie. I'm certain that Del Toro would respect the integrity of the source material in ways that few others would.

  • @DarthVil I read that he is trying to set it up with someone else. Yeah and fuck Tom Cruise.

  • @macleodponeage I hope that he does get it set up.

  • @retronovation7 WTF. It's del Toro. He'd do a fantastic job with this and just for his name alone it'd make good money. And a lot of people today like Lovecraft anyway, so they'd pay to see it probably more than once. Stupid studio. They should wisen up and be like WB is with Christopher Nolan - they just acquiesce to whatever he says because they are afraid of losing a contract with such awesomeness.

  • Don't fucking put Tom in this!

In that case I want to see Cthulhu eat his placenta..

  • @Amalekites

tom's a great actor but there are better choices ofcourse :D

    like christian bale and stuff

  • If this movie comes out people don't get your hopes up. If he puts Tom Cruise in it and put another character in the book i will see this movie on bootleg. Leave call of ktulu alone

  • was the big character he was talking about Ctulu?

  • @TheFrank313

    Definitely yes :)

  • @lexgeryon I don't know how they're gonna work on the plot but Cthulhu does not appear in "At the Mountains of Madness".

  • @Cavstic The large thing they're talking about is likely the shoggoth that busts out of one of the tunnels "like a runaway subway train" at the end of the story.

  • Comment removed

  • @Cavstic That IS the shoggoth. (See the last couple of paragraphs of chapter 11.)

  • @GoblinXXX I'v just read it again, yes it's the shoggoth.

  • Comment removed

  • @lexgeryon no, Cthulu is not in that story

  • @cheyyen Exactly, he is not in the story except being mentioned in a carved history of the Elder Things on the wall that the main character looks at briefly. To just dump Cthulu into the story to appease all of these stupid fanatics would ruin it and would be a slap in the face to HPL. I'm amazed at how many people love Cthulu, and yet know NOTHING about the character and how he actually fits into the whole HPL universe/mythos.

  • @lexgeryon It better NOT be Cthulu, because he is NOT in the story. He hardly even has a place in this story, besides the brief history we learn about the Elder Things in this story fighting against the Star Spawn of Cthulu millions and millions of years ago. Cthulu is deep at the bottom of the ocean, entombed at R'lyeh "sleeping" when this story takes place.

Besides, Cthulu is not even one of the big boys in the cosmic scheme, he's just a head priest for the Great Old Ones.

  • can't wait for del toro's at the mountains of madness but i am sorry because i wanted to see his take on the hobbit
