@sneem10 Thanks very much for the lovely comment, we enjoyed making this video. I really must find out where the shoes are now so I can let people know. YouTube can be a bit hit and miss these days! Cheers, Lesley
@weeknightingale Sorry I didn't get a message to say there were any comments on here, it's just come up today. I have no idea where the shoes went after Juhler and his channel has gone. Cheers, Lesley
Aw thanks Curt, I hadn't thought about it when we did it but afterwards realised that people were seeing these photos from before they knew me. Now we're truly close friends 'cos you've met my mum and most of my friends this side of the screen haven't! I thought the history of this piece would appeal to you. My great grandparents were 21 in the photo which was hand coloured! Cheers, Lesley xxx
My goodness the clogs are wonderful...there was a pair of these Lancashire clogs in my hubby's family but sadly they have disappeared. They sure don't make 'em like they used to! The BICC here would have had similar sounds on the pavements as workers thronged to and from work. Sadly all the factory has vanished from our town now. Lovely to see your mom on the video too...you both share that lovely smile and gentleness of character. Jacquie x
We certainly aren't worlds apart Jacquie. I'm sorry to hear your hubby's heirloom has stepped out of the family, you never know they may travel back. The sparking clogs would have been on cobbles but I didn't want to have to go into explaining that LOL. We still have a blanket from my grandmas days in the mill when they'd moved over to modern man made fibres - a trial run! Thanks for the compliment I'll pass it on, I'm glad to be like her. Cheers, Lesley x
Just thought the Edwardian photo might interest you, my great grandparents were just 21 at the time and the photo is hand coloured. It makes me think of you making your portraits and adding colour to them. Cheers, Lesley
Lilly this video was absolutely aimed at people like you with your love of family and history. The photo is important to me and my mum's side of the family (it's kept at her house) but I've always wished more people could see it - hoorah YouTube. My mum did so well on camera I think she'll do it again and yes I'm glad the smile and laughter are things I've inherited. The shoes are too precious not to share with friends, thanks for telling me with your lovely comment. Cheers, Lesley x
Edwardian photo of your great grandparents...WOW...that is a treasure! :-) Be sure to give a special thanks to your mother for being so brave to share the story of the clogs on cam. How fun to see one pair of shoes going through generations, and seeing Betty's shoes traveling around the world...:-)
Caylyn I feel so blessed that we have that photo, it links me deeply to my family. They were just 21 when it was taken and the photo is hand coloured. My mum is now feeling very pleased with the whole thing, I've been reading all the compliments to her over the 'phone. So yep it's not the last we've seen of her! The parallel with the shoes struck me as soon as Betty sent them out there with that message of love and peace. Cheers, Lesley
What a sweet video Lesley. I felt about the Travelling Painting very much like you feel about the travelling shoes. I still want to see it again... maybe I will one day.
I must show my ancestors sometime. I have photos of my great-great-grandparents (must be 1880s or so). They are on the wall in the hall...
And your Mum is gorgeous and you are so like her (I know everyone has said all this, but I feel it too!!!)
Thanks Mary, it's incredible isn't it the connection you feel when you either meet people face to face from YouTube or receive things from them. These items are so precious that it's such a leap of faith to trust them to the world but the rewards that endeavour brings are greater!
I'd love to see your 'photos, they are so few and far between from that era.
I'll pass on the message we talked earlier and she was so surprised by the compliments I think she'll be back LOL. Cheers, Lesley
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us; especially when your son is ill.( I hope that he is better now.) The shoes and the photos are amazing! They are more than objects or family history. They are constant memories of love and caring. Thank you for sharing both sets of shoes, the lovely photo, and of course- your mum. : )
I managed to do the vid before he started throwing up, then Internet went out then he started throwing up so it's been a real trial. He is still poorly but I think it's a 24 hour thing and he's sleeping now.
I feel so lucky that the hand coloured photo of my great grandparents survives because it has always connected me to something I never knew. They were just 21 when it was taken, they had many children my grandma was one who survived. I feel blessed to have the connection. Cheers, Lesley
Danny I've always felt it was extraordinary that my great grandmother kept those shoes in an era that didn't have much time for being sentimental, this goes for my grandmother too. They went through a depression and were bombed but the photo and the shoes made it through. I came from Lancashire where the cotton mills were and my grandma was a weaver in clogs. I feel so connected to that history and gladly share it with you (along with my mum). Cheers, Lesley
You're very welcome, I spoke to her earlier and she was amazed by all the messages about her. I come from a long line of smiling, laughing people and I really know how lucky I am. Cheers, Lesley
14/12/08 Stefan said 'nice work!' OK you've created a monster and I love it. Thanks matey that comment really meant a lot. Internet connection keeps going down apparently our broadband line is being 'trained' as we speak? My mum's sparkey and she takes that leap of faith every now and again, darn good role model with an ace smile.
How cool is that I touched the shoes you touched! Love from Lesley xxx
You're welcome Jenny though it wasn't easy to make this video! Even now I'm struggling, my Internet went down yesterday for the afternoon and then last night my little boy started to be really poorly. But the shoes have moved on and I'll post where they're off to next. Cheers, Lesley
Good for mom Sylvia for being brave allow you to put her on YouTube! That was a stunning wedding photo of her, and mum in the flesh is still quite a looker:) And the saga of the shoes continues:)
You know how it is Robert, we take the plunge and get on video here but it's not everyones choice. My mum was a star for helping to tell the story she's part of. I will pass on you compliments and I know that will really make her smile, she has a lovely smile! Yes the shoes are already off and I'll let you know where next video. Cheers, Lesley
Thanks Jen I feel sooo lucky to have that photo of my great grandparents. They were just 21 when that was taken and it's amazing that is survived being bombed. How wonderful that my great grandma treasured her daughters baby shoes too, she had a lot of children! I'm happy to share them with my friends here. Cheers, Lesley
Im happy to hear your history - this whit the travelling shoes i think is a great idea - we are looking forward to have them here in Denmark. I have a speciel story to tell aswell. Let me send you and your family a Merry Xmas and a happy new year - and please stay sfae ;-)
Kim the shoes seem to be travelling with the people who do have a story to tell, they are tiny but what they mean gets bigger with each family they visit. I'm looking forward to seeing them in your hands. Seasons greetings to you and yours and yes we always try to stay safe. Cheers, Lesley
Juhler, I'm looking forward to your family having them for a while. If I never made it to Denmark to visit you, at least my Dad's shoes made it. HA! Next year, I'll send you his socks.
oh Lesley, such a very special and heartwarming video. Your mother is lovely - and you really look so much like her - you share her radiant smile. How super this was to see the shoes meet up with their peers from the past.
It was also good to see Betty's shoes again and touching to know they are being seen through so many eyes and hearts.
It was a story I wanted to share right from the beginning and just hoped the shoes would come to me. However making this has given us more hurdles than you would ever believe. The shoes do manage to make things fall into place though and it felt so right for me to have them from you and be the next to touch them. They've been shared with my entire family but most are camera shy and the rest was on the other camera so it's lost. This was THE story though, from me and my mum. Love from Lesley xxx
What a lovely video to watch. Thankyou so much Lesley. Your mother is beautiful - you are so lucky to have her with you to share stories etc. Give her a hug from me will you? luv, Chris
It was a hard one to make Chris and took a lot for my mum to do but as you can see we overcame that and really enjoyed it. We did the first bit with the photos at her house then realised I'd left Betty's shoes back at mine! So we had to get together again and film the second bit during another visit. I will pass on the compliments and giving her a hug will be a pleasure, I know I'm blessed. Love from Lesley x
Lesley, you have a beautiful Mom! Thank you for sharing your photos and shoes. I am also so excited to see Betty's Traveling Shoes. I've been following them since the beginning. Those little shoes are so very special. I wonder where they will end up next?
Mimi my mum is going to be so thrilled to be getting all these long distance compliments. She's not that keen on being in photographs so this was a big thing for her. We have had a very special time with both these sets of shoes, we both feel deeply the power of connection. My mum is in awe of Betty sending them out knowing how special they are because of the way she feels about her shoes. I'm blessed to have this time with my mum, thanks for reminding me. Cheers, Lesley x
What a time for my Internet to go down! Thanks Carol. They are amazing shoes both pairs and it was an incredible privilege to have time with them both in my home at the same time. Cheers, Lesley

Okay, now that I got the "first" thing in, I can get to brass tacks. I am so honored, Lesley, to meet your dear Mother and learn about your own precious shoe story. Really, I think that we are all family; so to me, we're just passing my Dad's shoes around the global family. Your dear shoes ... the love of each generation is passed down as well. These treasures we cherish are representative of the love we have for each other.

I don't want to let it go with just a small comment, Lesley, and I do want to save a lot of my response for the video reply; but please tell your lovely Mother that she could not have made me happier, and you will always be dear to my heart. You make me feel like the most blessed person on the face of this Earth, Lesley. :)
Betty there are tears on my cheeks. I have felt you through these shoes the closest I have to a hug with you. Now I send them on and when you get them back you will feel me and all my family. I'm glad you got to 'meet' my mum. Your leap of faith enabled her to overcome her shyness and be part of this special story.
