Is it normal for the metal circle on the end of the recoil spring to protrude from the front of the gun? I just got a PPS and have field stripped it a few times and noticed this just now.
@RaidingWindmills I've done some more searching and apparently the guide rod is screwed together. I looked at mine and it does seem to be unscrewed slightly, but I have not been able to tighten it at all to fix this.
I emailed Walther, so hopefully they send me a new one or tell me how to fix it.
You do not need to remove the backstrap to field strip the PPS. That's only put in the manual for liability reasons and is totally unnessesary. Constantly removing the backstrap wears away the tab on it and makes it loose and possibly come out and disable the gun. You can also bend the retainer tab to make it tighter, but again, it's best to not remove it in the first place. Walther is aware of this problem and will send new backstraps free if needed.
@agksimon Actually it's is recommended. Pulling the trigger to dry fire unlocking the catch is not real good for the gun. As dry firing will damage the plastic firingpin guide. I know because I in up breaking my.
Hey man! nice video... good info for someone like me on the market looking for a PPS. how much did you pay for your PPS... i'm just looking for ballpark idea. Walthers offical site prices them pretty high.
cool... yeah i figured it wouldn't be much more than a glock... now i just need to find someone interested in buying my glock 22 .40cal (i also have two blackhawk serpa holsters to go with it, duty holster and a cqc holster)
That looks like just about the easiest field strip I've ever seen on a gun. I have a 229 but am thinking about a PPS for the size and the fact they make it in .40S&W now.
just picked up a pps in 40s&w. holds six with the clip that they send with but it is so flat you can carry it real easily very nice gun imo. shoots well too
I wear mine with a belly band holster so it rides directly behind my belt... it is 100% invisible, and 100% comfortable. And it hasn't hiccuped once, regardless of the type/brand of ammo.
By the way, I have big hands and thick fingers. I held like 12 different pocket guns, and this is by far the most comfortable, especially with the 7 & 8 round clips.
I held this gun at a gun show, and I'm definitely buying it... I don't care if it costs $1,200, I would buy it before I would a glock.
Glock's are just too damn bulky and top heavy. My uncle is a cop and he's trying to brainwash me in buying a glock, but yet the Detroit Police Department is switching to S&W MP's... go figure!
detroitguy: Yeah. Most police guys are all about Glocks. It's pretty much all they know, for the most part, so it's unsurprising that an LEO would recommend Glock--I've snickered at LEOs have trouble figuring out 1911s.
Not that there aren't a lot of reasons why Glocks are good, but they're just not great at any one particular thing.
Best option is to get what is comfortable to you. PPS looks mighty nice, for being a concealable weapon. I'm sure I'd rather IWB carry a PPS over Glock, any day.
FEs are scarce, if not already gone. My local gun store had 2 black ones (non FE), one of which is now mine, well, almost, on layaway. I really liked the feel of it compared to other compact pistols. And, it is thi-in! Check out the PPSTalk forum for reviews, gripes, and details.
I went to 2 gun stores. They are on order, but the guns are rationed among all the different gum stores. The gun is in demand for sure. I at first thought the gun would make a good pocket gun, but while it will fit into a standard pocket, it is a bit much. Though, the gun is only about an inch wide, the bigger clip makes it fit real tight, but feels good in my hand. With the smallest clip, my pinky finger has no place to go. Keep in mind, this is what I learned from brief gun store review.
No, I don't mean that exact recoil spring; I mean a recoil spring as a self contained unit that you don't need a special tool to re-install. And my p22 shoots flawlessly with everything i've fed it.
Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you liked my talk about the M9. I'll have to tally up more rounds in the PPS before I can have anything useful to say about it. I'm still in the middle of barrel break-in.
I was thinking about it, but I was worried that the muzzle blast (from any of my guns) would damage the mic on my camera. But, since there are other people posting vids of their range trips, I guess it'll be OK. In the meantime, the guy from Gunblast(dot)com has a vid posted of him shooting it.
So then every time your fieldstrip it you have to remove the backstrap?? Well, I'm glad I live in California then.......we don't have access to those in our state. JAMES.
The manual suggests removal as part of the field strip procedure. It's a new type of quick "safety" device that decocks and disables the gun when it is removed. I don't like it too much myself, but I guess it might be useful for someone with curious kids in the house. No key to mess around with, just take a piece of the gun with you.

Thanks for the vid.
It seems you don't need to squeeze a trigger for disassembly....I don't mean it's safer but just easier.
gm0042oidos 2 years ago
If you don't remove the backstrap, you have to pull the trigger. Mine just won't slide forward without dry firing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
diggingforgold 2 years ago
@diggingforgold
I see. Thank youu for the info.
I don't have PPS yet but I'll use a snap cap anyway so totally OK for dry firing.
I just don't wanna lose the backstrap!
gm0042oidos 2 years ago
Great lookin pistol and very simple breakdown, it's a shame it doesn't hold more rounds. Glock sure sewed up the market on that!
toddallenhooper 2 years ago
Not sure about that. I ruled the Glock 26 out because I thought the extra capacity wasn't worth the extra thickness.

I was going to add the same thing; I don't think it would be necessary to remove the backstrap for regular, post-shooting cleaning.

thanks for your post i did not know that. I was afraid i would eventually damage the backstrap

I forget at the moment, but I think I paid about $525. They shouldn't be that much more expensive than a Glock.

i love my glock its a great workhorse gun and if you have the full frame 9mm its pretty accurate i however have the 40s@w compact
so its pretty accurate but not as accurate as my pps 9mm both are great guns but i only had to give about 70 more for the pps so definetly worth it

is this your favorite ccw
83lagerking 3 years ago
Thus far, the AMT Backup is my favorite CCW/BUG, while the M9 is my favorite open-carry/main weapon.
I plan to carry the PPS more as I put more rounds thru it and become satisfied with its reliability.

The have it as a .40 (right now that is the closest you'll get to a .45)

Why can't the p22 have a recoil spring like this? Hint Hint WaltherUSA...
01KravenMoorehead 4 years ago
i have the pps and its very nice almost like a thinner springfield xd
ooh and the reason you cant have a recoil spring like that on a p22
is the like of power of a 22 round
i had a p22 and when i shot cci ammo thru it almost no fte or ftf

ooh i thought you meant like a two stage like the pps you mean a contained one almost like a glock
i honestly have no idea the only thing i can guess is because the fixed barrel of the p22
vernaholic 3 years ago
I don't think so. I think they just cut that particular corner on an otherwise excellent gun. That and the pop out plastic front sight.
