ok i've been to the show! This is how they do it

on a Tuesday they have a full dress rehearsal earlier in the day and they film it. That is what is used for recap with the numbers. The actually show on Tuesday is obviously taped live....but the b4 taping is used only for the small recap

i do this for a living.. and there is so much time to do this live... but it's just easier not to.. just incase the person screws up.. do you not watch sporting events and they have the replay, 10 seconds later... there's a person in the back and that's all they do.... they are called VTR's video tape replay...

BREAKING NEWS: TV isnt magic... they actually have to cut those end clips and put them together and doing that while the show is airing wouldnt be possible so they do it with their final dress rehearsal so it looks as close to the original as possible and they dont do it to fake us out, they do it because its the easiest and best way to remind us of everything we just saw. go watch adam lambert doing black or white, in 1 performance he jumps back up the steps and in the other he walks up them.

It's because they use the rehearsal shot for the end, when they show the phone numbers. They don't have enough time in the live show to play back the actual "live" performance, if that makes any sense!! That's how they explained it on TMZ =) ♥ ♥ ♥

This is reality in TV Land. They record the rehersal to replay the recaps sometimes because of the live show and replay at the end of the show. It take time to put the clips together so the cheat a bit with some of the performances.....YES they will be different in this case.

the recap at the end of the show is from the shound check. they cant cut the part that they showed live in that quick of time! so they wear what they are going to wear on the night of the show and then they do the sound check and lighting then. the live show the singer can do it how ever they like! but most times they dont change it that much.

oops i rewatched it and it sounded different, so it was a reheasal, they also do that for davids benefit, he can see how he wants to sing it, how it will sound etc, at the end the last note different so he probably decided to do something diff. then he was a originally going to do. :)

No big conspiracy...it's pretty much known that the dress rehearsals are filmed and used for the recaps...it's done so the editors have plenty of time to pick the "right" couple seconds to show for each contestant. It's a live show, the editors would be scrambling if they had to assemble a video package to air with only minutes to spare (in the case of the final few singers)...this makes their job much easier.

In most shows that go live, They do tape the Rehearsals, Normally for cases of things going wrong. Some of this could be dubbed (as in the claps, cheers, what not) fact is the Recap has a Ext. Wide shot barely showing his face, It could of been a rehearsal track dubbed over the real thing. BUT once they show a face shot they must use the orrigianl clip instead of the edited one. Doesnt mean its rigged, just means they have some creative editors (Just like all reality shows IE joe millionare Kiss

Not true. Remember at one point D.A said while he performs, he is listening to the studio version of himself singing at the same time? Well they play the studio version on the recaps because they can't do live things that fast. Put that on top of the fact that there are many cameras at different angles.

Folks, I think some of you forgot that the "recap" was explained in either season 3 or 4. They aired it during an episode. But maybe these posts will give them a wake up call (since it has obviously hit a few nerves), and they will show 'real' recaps in future shows. David sounds different coz he always sings songs differently each time he sings. He's like a hot jazz singer who improvises each song on the fly depending on their mood, only he likes pop with soulful styling.

That's his unique musicality coming out. His vocal coach said that's something you can't teach. It's innate--you've got it or ya don't. DJ has it in spades!

The recaps are videos of the dress rehearsals. Let's see if you can put together a video of every single contestant, in a couple of minutes. It's not the same as in sports, they just rewind it, here they have to edit it. The Dress Rehearsals are about 3 hours before the Live show and I think that's when the judges come up with their comments too. That's why they're usually way off on their comments,thinking someone did a lot better or worse than we heard and why Paula judged Jason for 2 songs after he only sang one because she already heard both together a few hours prior. This is nothing new,though. They've always done it that way.

Someone has already said, but let me reiterate: The playback is from the dress rehearsals. The producers have told the public that already, in Season 5, if I am not mistaken.
