  • wow all the fuckin people who comment here need to get a god damn intelligence check

  • He was not handsome at all..very average looking to me

  • Lets look at the reckless habits of men..Regardless of Straight or Homosexual..Men simply don't care about the consequences of their actions. Primarily this is why the prisons are so over populated. Sex is a wonderful thing,,if you play house use CONDOMs. They are readily available.but 60% of men are Lazy,,and make excuses. Lets learn from the past,,use Rubbers, get tested, treated, inform partners,,or avoid High risk people!!

  • all the gay remarks I cannot believe how stupid people are. Straights have AIDS too. To all the compassionate people who have begun to take it upon them selves to be responsible and disclose and medicate and recover and protect others, YOU ROCK! The best thing about Gaetan is that the world has better knowledge of what is not acceptable.... It won't really make a difference anyway though Japan now is reporting antibiotic resistant form of Gonorhea..yeah real bad for the everyone . Radioactive?

  • Why are you eulogizing this POS? It's because of him and others who led his lifestyle that we now have a global plague.

  • Actually, there IS a bright side to this whole situation. There are far fewer gays to campaign for same-sex marriage rights that few of them will EVER use, because they don't really intend to use it. With the support of Jewish "human rights" activists forever attacking the moral countenance of Christian society, these bastards have proven that gay ass Gaetan is both their representative and their own worst enemy. Ironic, that.

  • Eulogizing Gaetan Dugas in this way does not change the historical record of his sexual habits nor his selfishness for continuing to have sex.

If this is how the gay community remembers a traitor to their cause and one that has helped spread a vile disease at a faster rate than it otherwise have been (250 partners a year? holy shit, no time for anything else), then they have some major self-esteem issues.

Gaetan Dugas remains a self-centered bastard to this day. May the Devil fuck him up.

  • I have seen thegr8danwhite making stupid comments all over, he sounds like a little child molester, oh and by the way for the guy who's reading that poem Dugas has more than one public photo, and to be honest he's no different than alot of homosexuals of his day, alot of them were having sex with hundreds of other men, and im more than sure they were spreading it around even before dugas came along, patient 0 is not a fair label for this guy even though he was evil.

  • this piece of shit need to burn in hell, fucking murdered millions of people thank to this asshole.

  • check out his wikipedia page, it says that after sexual encounters he would say to partners "I have the gay cancer, maybe now you will get it too" So I hope he's rotting in hell

  • This is amazing. I, too, have spent a lot of time thinking about Gaetan and what it must have felt like to be him, what must've gone through his head. His is a fascinating story, and your poem reflects that. Thank you.

  • "Nobody's proven to me that you can spread cancer." Gaetan cut Conant's rebuttal short. "Somebody gave this thing to me," he said. "I'm not going to give up sex."

  • [ ...cont ] He just wanted Conant to check him out and make sure everything was under control. After the examination, as Gaetan was pulling on his stylish shirt, Conant mentioned that Gaetan should stop having sex. "It's probably some virus", said Conant. "If you do have sex, make sure to avoid anything where you come inside somebody or exchange bodily fluids." Gaetan looked wounded, but his voice betrayed a fierce edge of bitterness. "Of course I'm going to have sex," he told Conant. [cont...]

  • April 1 [1982]. UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISO Speaking smoothly in his charming French accent, the young man seemed the personification of all things debonair. Marcus Conant was amazed that the airline steward had been diagnosed with Kaposi's sarcoma for almost two years already. He still looked healthy. He still exuded a vibrant sexuality. Gaetan Dugas was proud that his cancer had not progressed. He was going to beat this thing, he insisted. [ cont... ]

  • Dr. Selma Dritz: I told him that we had reports from people who had seen him in the baths really cavorting around, and then telling guys: Ha! now you're going to get it too. I talked to him. I told him that he was getting other people sick with it. And he said: It's my right to do whatever I want. My civil rights. [ cont... ]

  • @7beers [ ... cont ] I do as I please. I've got it. Why shouldn't they have it? I can do as I please. I said: You can kill youself if you want, but you've got not right to take somebody else along with you And he said: Screw you, and walked out

  • Why does this poet stress that Dugas did not know what he was doing, when it is an established fact that, after 1980, he did?

  • @7beers because perversions and indecency is the norm in the gay male community. What Gaetan was doing was the past time of every gay man in the those days. Homosexuality is a problem, it's a sickness, it's a perversion!!

  • @thegr8danwhite you are a sick fucking troller, get a fucking hobby you snotty little bastard, fucking closet case homo yourself aren't you, go fuck off and die somewhere...

  • @Allen10579 LOL, hey birdboy why don't you just slip on your pretty little pink tutus and prance back into your bathhouse in west hollywood you little pervert.

  • @7beers He was dead soon after 84 ...if you had lots of energy and were gay and crazy you might think that it was a conspiracy against you or that you were being attacked in some way like poisoning (which coincidentally actually may have truly been the case) Many peoples instincts were to fight back even so much as to say I'm going to die anyway who cares.....Many felt it was both peoples responsibility to ask if the other was clean and still others said why get tested I don't want to know.

  • @NoneroneousX5 You make some good points. My main objection is to the author of this poem, who stresses emphatically that he refuses to believe that Gaetan knowingly risked spreading disease to others, when Gaetan explicitly stated himself, on more than one occasion, that he was doing precisely that.

  • Interesting poem and sentiments. Gaetan Dugas certainly is an intriguing figure. He is now synonymous with HIV, the first plague rat carrying a fly, but really, what did he know? I enjoyed the dichotomy you created of him as a giver of life (being a steward) and a taker of life. Very interesting indeed!

  • @BatteryEaters

Gaetan was my cousin once removed. Yes, he will always have the stigma of the flea on the Mongols collar coming down the Steps. I suppose that that story is more interresting than the one about the hours and days of personal time that he gave up, when he hadn't much left, to help a doctor develop a working model of how the disease progresses.

  • @thegirl44

    Hello Darling.

    You really are Gaetan cousin?

Could you give me some information about it?

  • @daniellider1988 I'd be happy to tell you what I know but, to be fair, most of it is second hand and annecdotal information from his surviving family. Feel free to ask any questions, though, I'll answer what I can.
