Actually, there IS a bright side to this whole situation. There are far fewer gays to campaign for same-sex marriage rights that few of them will EVER use, because they don't really intend to use it. Interesting poem and sentiments. Gaetan Dugas certainly is an intriguing figure. He is now synonymous with HIV, the first plague rat carrying a fly, but really, what did he know? I enjoyed the dichotomy you created of him as a giver of life (being a steward) and a taker of life. Very interesting indeed!
Gaetan was my cousin once removed. Yes, he will always have the stigma of the flea on the Mongols collar coming down the Steps. I suppose that that story is more interresting than the one about the hours and days of personal time that he gave up, when he hadn't much left, to help a doctor develop a working model of how the disease progresses.
