  • NASA could learn a lot from this ship. Slackers.

  • The series was mostly crap, but the layout of the base and the multi-purpose Eagles were complimented by scientists at the time for it's quality of planning.

  • @stevenewyork Season 1 was the more philosophical of the 2 Seasons. To say that both Seasons were crap is to suggest that you don't remember how different the two Seasons were.

  • @IWannabeJew Actually I have both seasons on DVD...don't ask me why. Yes, the two seasons were vastly different in tone. In the second season, I like "The Rules of Luton" and that episode with the monster that wants Alpha's life support core. It's hard to make a successful series when the premise doesn't work.

  • @stevenewyork Yeah, "Rules of Luton" was one of my favorites from Season 2, also.

How does the premise not work? Moon drifts through space, encountering other worlds. Sure, it would have to be moving awfully fast to encounter that many worlds (AND escaping their gravity wells!), but that's what you accept in order to enjoy the next episode. And Warp Factor 8 is a premise that works?

If anything, the Season 1 didn't work because it was too intellectual.

  • @stevenewyork like the seriea UFO. chrome silver mini skirts and purple wigs, pretty-boy bell hops driving italian sport cars, secret subs and air/space ships flying around trying to catch mirrored disco-ball ceiling ornaments with no real plot or premise of who they are why there here or where they came from.

  • Nice bit of video but it would seem the thrusters are working in the wrong orientaion to rotate the eagle? Just being a bit anal but its a shame to have gone through all of the trouble if its not right?

  • What a cool ship. I could be tempted to buy one at my hobby shop :)

  • i had a metal eagle space ship with removable centre piece and shock absorbing landing feet-one of my favourite toys of all time!! who threw it away?..it wasnt me thats for sure... ; (

  • OMG!!! I had a toy spaceship like that when I was a kid, but I never knew what show it was from, lol :)

  • @VagianTuerous Now you can get Space: 1999 the series on DVD and enjoy all of the many models and crashes. lol

  • GREAT VIDEO!

  • whats cool about this is its the only time I have seen those side thrusters use visually explained. Just wish there was sound.

  • @mach888888 Agree this is an outstanding video, made before CGI was even a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye :-) As regards the sound, there wouldn't be any in space, because it doesn't travel through a vacuum. But it would be great, anyway.

In space, no-one can hear you scream!

  • Dude, that was fantastic work!!! I love the Eagle -- best design ever.

  • Space 1999 Eagle Transporter takeoff from Moon Base Alpha: The Eagle is the only collectable from Space 1999, and the most famous image of the short lived television series.

  • The S1999 Eagles were SO cool looking. The interior crew compartment scenes made no sense compared to the external view .... but they still looked cool!

  • @riverdale999 Starlog magazine had blueprints of the Eagle in an issue around 1978. Wish I would have safeguarded that. : (

  • @IWannabeJew Jeez!!! I HAD that mag!!! Totally forgot!!!! I wish I still had it too!!! And Space 1999 bubblegum cards!

  • @riverdale999 You ever notice how it looks like the Numa Numa guy is almost wearing a Year 1 uniform?

  • I love eagle in space 1999.

    I praise your work

  • Great job on the Eagle!!! I always loved the Eagles, even more so than the Star Trek ships.I too drew them as a kid and built the models as well as having the big 30 inch model with the 3 figures.

  • As for sci fi ships, my vote is the EAGLE. I don't know why exactly but I drew them as a kid and build models of them even now. Awesome rendering of a lift off! Very detailed and looks great with the maneuvering thrusters and landing struts! This should be included in any remakes!

  • @samsterii I too was obsessed with drawing the Eagles...graph paper was my friend. I loved the Space:1999 series back then. I got alot of the episodes on DVD

and I watch them now and they seem so cheesy..special effect wise...compared to todays standards. I think it would be so awsome if it was revived using todys special effects...

  • Wow!

  • This is really good work. Who made it and where did you get these clips?

  • Sorry for my poor english. It was TV series of course, not movie :-). Maybe it was from 1975 but Polish (communistic) TV emited it in 1979. Maya was beautiful but i'm still in love in Sandra :-).

  • I was see this great movie in 1979. It was 30 years ago but the "Eagle" is still best starship for me.

  • Errp, what movie was that? This ship is from Space:1999, and was on television in 1975.

  • Me too. Frend

  • GREAT JOB!

  • The Eagles must be *the* most important reckoning and security facility... Else our Alphans would be trapped within the Moonbase (save for teleportation - but all teleportation facilities were from alien planets, apart from that photon thing in Journey to Where). The Eagles are therefore very crucial...I believe around 50 have been lost; but since they're modular and tech teams are very efficient, there's virtually a limitless number of those Eagles.

  • I saw the complete series recently fron Netflix and I couldn't help but notice that on the show so many Eagle Ships were destroyed,it seemed they had a never ending supply of them.

  • I've always thought that the Eagle 1 was the real star of the show.

  • Fantastic - that's by far the best eagle annimation ive ever seen. Nice lighting, nice work on the directional jets etc etc

    GREAT

    What software did you use?

  • Was that szene really in the show? I can not remember the lighting too.

  • Beautiful

  • Impressive but some reason I don't remember the Eagles looking that good and I can't seem to remember if they had that lighting at the bottom,...one last note: BRING BACK SPACE 1999 AS SPACE 2099,....And be sure there is another Maya character,...I believe she was the star attraction to the whole Space 1999 vision,...

  • As others have said, this is the only sci-fi show with ships that were entirely believable. I'd like to see them bring this show back, but it would probably be a politically correct crapfest on the order of Star Trek: Voyager.

  • I agree, except that the Eagle wasn't designed for atmospheric flight, only vacuum.

They should've had a running side story about designing a new spacecraft capable of entering and flying in atmosphere, using Eagle spare parts.

  • The Alphans did have gravity manipulation technology (the simple fact that they had artificial gravity in the Eagles shows that).

The book adaptions discussed them using it for deflective force fields once or twice (not Star Trek like "shields"). Given that, it's not a stretch for the eagle to have a graviton-based "windshield" to take care of the aerodynamics or to have the engine power for planetary lift off and landings.

  • I drew the transporter many times, and did so for a serious project many years later i.e. 1987!

  • Something about the design of Eagles always "felt" real ... and still does.

  • I think it is because of the rocket engines. All other spaceships in all other sci fi series work with some unknown future technologies.

  • It looked like something that could exist with technology at the time not like Star Trek. I soooo wanted to fly one of those. Carter was my hero.

  • Beautifully Done

  • A new series could be done, but instead of having the Earth or Moon suffer a titanic explosion, perhaps they could be experimenting with some type of drive or transmitter or something that is an attempt to break the light barrier only to cause the Moon to "wink" into an alternate dimension, trading places with the Moon before it-- it would be like "Sliders" as they visit alternate Earths... some where humans never evolved, or where Communism dominated, etc.

  • The only scifi ever made with believable space ships.

  • Yeah, would love to see a new series made, but i fear they would screw it up somehow.

What would it take to knock the moon out of orbit? Certainly the destruction of the entire planet Earth. The series could just be about the people stuck on Moon Base Alpha trying to survive in a new orbit around the sun, perhaps having close encouters with the outer planets and their moons, which they could explore, maybe finding life forms. Maybe aliens feel safe to comunicate after the human race is gone.

  • This is great! Keep up the great work! Now if only a sequel series could be made (Like James Cawley did for Star Trek TOS) though I would like it to be after "Message from Moonbase Alpha."

  • A most excellent job, very nice indeed!

  • I had one of the large-scale Eagles as a kid - it and the Starfleet Technical Manual were my most prized possessions. I loved this show and have now wasted the better part of an hour watching Eagle clips on YouTube. Damn you, Internet!

  • Was totally obsesssed with the eagle transporter as a child....still looks as amazing!

  • Even at the age of 42 i'll neva get fed up with the site of an eagle!

  • awesome!the eagle is so cool!

  • nice animations, the original show used water jets for the undercarriage jets.

  • great stuff, if you like S;1999 and want to check out models work etc l recommend you visit and join the forum there... its eagletransporter dot com

  • lve got them Dinky toy Eagles, good cgi

  • I always wanted a Dinky toy Eagle Transporter as a kid. Never got one though. They sell for an absolute mint on E-bay these days. My cousin had both the Transporter AND the Freighter. He was a right spoilt little bastard.

  • I think two of the side thrusters are firing wrong when it turns, but it's still very impressive animation.

    Lex

  • Wy dont they remake the series with this kind of animation?

  • Because the original models look great and are more physical than some computer animation? Because there is no need to fix that which is not broken?

I actually think that the models often are the greatest part of Space 1999. But sometimes the story can be great too. For example, I remember that I loved an episode called "The Infernal Machine".

  • True! sometimes too much special effects messes up the storyline! i think.

  • best one yet

  • nice

  • This is an outstanding "shot" its too bad it doesn't last longer (or have background music). Keep it up...let's see more!

  • Amazing and beautiful shot.

They should remake this wonderful show.

  • yeah and then they will mess it up! just like they did with Battlestar Galactica! wtf?! John Koeing with an Attitude, the Doctor probably wouldn't give a shit about shit, Victor would probably be a terrorist, and alan would be a woman! Connel would be gay, and paul would want Koeings command! That data analyst girl whats her name? would finally be a prostitute! The moon wouldn't blast out of earths orbit, instead, another planets moon would enter our earths orbit and threaten to slam into ours!

  • I never think Battlestar Galactica have great scripts, thought i loved and still love the space fights from season 1 (Thanks to John Dykstra and Star Wars...).

Space 1999 offered a new world on each episode and interresting storylines, though the original pitch was totally incredible and everything look obviously "studio".

  • That's really good. More, more more more....

  • love this show thanks

  • Beautiful ;-)

  • The Eagle,Thunderbird 2,and The Jupiter 2.Will always be my fav Spacecraft.

It,s great to see fans keeping it still alive and well with Computers and indie film tributes.

  • Have you ever thought of sending a resume to Gerry Anderson? This clip looked as good as some of the work I've seen with the Orion Project

  • Very nice attention to detail. I've played with some CG versions of the eagle as well meeting other TV starships.

  • Cool! Those Eagle transporters are just so wonky--you did a great job!

we used egg cartons...i'll post it as a vid response...

  • great, thanks; fantastic made....

if i had the money; id love to do a epic hollywood-movie out of the series with todays technology....:-)

  • Brilliant. Lovely model and movement.

The Eagle was the very 1st CGI model I ever built. Such a handsome craft. Thank you for posting this.

  • Brilliant mate...love the eagle starting to sway on its pads before it lifts off....very realistic

  • Magnificent work - well done.

  • I'm still wondering how they blew up all 125 of their 75 Eagles. Looks like the 2001 moon bus, thruster pods are straight off the apollo SM

  • In the episode WARGAMES (one of my faves) from season I, I noticed that when an EAGLE was to be destroyed, it was a one-dimensional cardboard maquette (ostensibly to avoid destroying the expensive miniature models- time is money). I love Season I. Brian Johnson worked on 2001 for the late Stanley Kubrick, nd went on to win an oscar for Ridley Scott's ALIEN (1979). SFX of NOSTROMO were awe-inspiring.

  • Excellent stuff.

The Eagle was the real star of Space 1999.

  • that is really good nicely done even the wobble..
