This does work for Vista, but you'll need to Install Maple, Reboot, then Install Edrum 1.0 , in Reason assign a generic midi controller and put in on the same channel as you set the output for in Edrum. Go back to Edrum and Go to Game Devices and select the name of the device from the drop down list. Now learn each of the pads and set them to unique channels 1.2.3.4.5.6. Lastly go back to the track channels. Do NOT USE the one marked pedal.. instead ignore it and start with the second track.
great video but i have a question. when you hit the drums. does it only come out as one velocity? or can u hit it hard or soft and it will change ? i think i dont. but meh i dunno
Ok, so I finally figured out how to get my electronic Roland TD-3 drum kit working using midi through Reason, but I still cant route different pads to make different sounds also id like it so when I record it all sits neatly to the bar (snap to grid) PLEASE NOTE: The master channel for my drum kit is channel 10 through the midi in device. Do I need to create something to re-route the different pads???? Help!
great tutorial for reason/drums..BUT!...is there noticeable lag/latency.....?????...
sound coming after youve hit it.....?
the only way ive figured to get direct midi with no lag is......
im going to buy an old midi keyboard and make my own drums using transducers.touch sensitive...and just wire em to the actual keys..then i can transmit midi..no lag etc...it seems everyone has a major problem with latency doing this....ive seen lots of vids on this,,,same problem everywhere it seems...
@100roberthenry Read the video notes/description as your question is answered there. Use ASIO drivers and there is no lag what so ever. I wasn't using them when I made this video and the editing was just off making it appear worse.
I've been meaning to do a jam video to demonstrate how well it works with ASIO, just haven't had time.
Of course you can record. You can record the same way you record from any other midi input device from Reason. The beat playing in the background was recorded using the rockband kit as input.
Ok then please help me. I have a midi controller which I can control redrum and other instruments with BUT nothing appears in the sequencer. It's not a keyboard, it's pads.
hey guys , any of you know how i can connect my ion drumrocker to the reason software? y tried following these steps , but when i hit the learn button and hit my red pad nothing happens. much appreciated
GHWT 360/PS2/PS3 to VSTi (MIDI) with velocity support. You need a wireless receiver. Not sure about Rock Band-drums yet but I can add support for them.
Hey, im trying to do this and for some reason Edrum isnt picking up my rockband drum kit. After I click learn then hit the red pad it doesnt work? Any help?
i use an mpd, keyboard or an electronic drum set for my drum beats in reason.....i guess now i could do it with my rock band drum set:) good tutorial by the way
you just dump them in your reason sound bank folder....or direct reason to where you stored your drum sounds.....u got the drum kit 2.0 for reason??? thats an awesome piece of software
I thank you so alot! You are the best. You got me hustle now. Hah. I was having a hard to get the eletronic drum. My father refused to buy 300 like Yoki, Ion, etc.
Thanx for this video.... Ive managed to get my RockBand drums working with Edrum in Ableton Live 7. Problems with recording midi to clips(probably something to do with a setting that needs tweeking), but great for setting up an audio channel to record the playback of live drums through an Impulse kit!!
your a genius! i wouldve never thought of this and i have reason version 4 and i have the rock band drums. thanks for this, im going to try 2morrow after school.
Use ASIO drivers if your soundcard supports it and you'll have no latency at all. Standard sound cards will create minor latency, enough to be annoying.
This definitely works, I got it set up perfectly. The only thing you have to do differently is if you have Vista you must use the older version of eDrum monitor for it to work.
I noticed using ASIO drivers in reason VS standard DX drivers makes a HUGE difference in the latency.....with ASIO there is literally no delay at all letting you just back out beats like nothing.....the delay with standard audio drivers can be a little annoying
When you hit lightly the midi velocity will be low ? I saw that you were hitting at same velocity but will it detect higher / lower hitting velocity ?
I dont think so, real expensive electronic drums kits feature that, but this is just a cheap game controller, basically the hits are just registered as on or off
A couple people have asked me about the delay on the sound when i hit the drums........the entire video is off time with the sound because my camera sucks.....
the response time of the sound when you hit the pad is actually very accurate, There is MAYBE a 5ms response time if that

i just noticed to the status window in edrum the press/release action of joysticks (I'm using a playstation one controler as drumpad)...
But, since it only learns the the press of a button, you can't assign open/close hi hats.

Is there any program that does the same thing for Guitar Hero World Tour drumset?
GetToDaChoppa92 3 years ago
Thanks, this worked perfectly. If you're using Vista you'll want to do this when installing Midi Yoke:
1. Download the MIDI Yoke NT 1.74 Installer.
2. Run "MSCONFIG" from the Run-menu (Win+R).
3. Go to the "Tools"-tab and select "Disable UAC".
4. Press "Launch". Close the CMD-window.
5. Restart your computer and install MIDI Yoke
Also when downloading EDrum use version 1.0 or else it won't work.
Hope this helps.
