  • This needs to be on failblog

  • Doesnt matter if he hooks in before or after he puts on the harness. Just do the damn hang check !

  • that sucks. im sorry

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Turns out he wasn't ok, he flew very little after this. He went from being one of the better comp pilots in the country to having so much pain he couldn't fly.

  • He don't need wheels He's good

  • @bnieves100 nothing wrong with wheels no matter how good you are, they are a fantastic safety aid with very little drag ! everybody should be using them.

  • LMFAO!!! This shit is funny!

  • Lucky not to have broken his neck.

    LEssones to learn.

    Pilot - pre flight check

Camerman - you can clearly see his hang strap dangling down his back which means he is not clipped in.

Others - you must have seen it as well.

If youare going to stand arounsd adn watch, learn to do somethign useful =, like using your eyes, brains and voices.

Hope assholes like you are not just standing around if ever you assholes are about to make a potentially fatal mistake !!

  • I hate when that happens.

  • @jonnyasprin lol

  • woulda suck if the plane keep draging him

  • All I can say is thank God for weak links on the tow line or this guys would be hamburger today. Thanks for the post. I always hang check but a good reminder goes a long way.

  • Yes we saw it the first 3 times...

  • Yeah, flying is dangerous. I hope that's not news to anyone. I may very well die from an accident while flying a hang glider or a paraglider but @miraclepieco and I can probably both agree that the reward of this sport far outweighs the risk. Hell, I half HOPE I die paragliding - instead of die in a carwreck, housefire, cancer, getting fat from watching YouTube and eating pie, etc...

  • @miraclepieco Brother, you are mistaken and misleading. When a PG takes a collapse it is always due to an error on the pilot's part. (Skill or judgement or both.) That's like saying a hang can do everything perfect and suddenly lose control authority while banking down low due to wind gradient. Total BS and you know it - it's always pilot error. The great thing about a PG is that they're designed to collapse, then re-inflate and fly - even with a beginner pilot at the controls. Your wing snaps..

  • UP'S , happen's unfortunaly to the best of us , after 25 yaers hanggliding I seen it all , lucky for the Pilot it was not a Mountain / Cliff- lunch , please use a simple 5 point check next time ore simply every time you start !!!!

  • Thats better than getting up to 800 feet and shitting his pants.

  • Guess he forgot to do a hang check :-D

    Glad he is OK.

  • Roller skates or a rolling chair nextime for him..

  • That's why hang gliding sucks - rigid shit to run your head into. Go paragliding!

  • @climb1028 nope, I never saw a bag wad up in a little turbulence, but I did see one inflate in front of a landing hang glider and kill the guy at the point last month.

  • @jerbear54 Dude, I was JOKING. Way to use a dead guy to make your point on You Tube. You are clearly a wise man. From what I heard from a 1st hand witness of that tragic accident your description and conclusion "bag... kill(ed) the guy" is not accurate. I don't think the bag or its pilot had any intention to or inherent flaw that conspired to kill the poor hang last month. I am an avid PG pilot and I'm not going to get into a petty argument with you over a tragic accident. HG is cool too.

  • He forgot to flare........

  • thank fully he is ok. Shees i hate to see this happen. Please guys hang check. I,m glad your ok. That happens so fast and can be so devastating. Thanks for posting it stresses the importance of ALL are preflight checks.

  • Of all the things you could forget...

  • ???? Preflight. Your friends should allways check eatchouther

  • ouch,looked like it hurt,"CALL AN AMBULANCE!!!!!!"

  • just need the keyboard cat to complete this video.

  • That's got to hurt! but that will show him to hook in next time

  • Uh... where were his wheels?

  • anyone can mistake!

  • cual fue la suerte del piloto ?

    en español por favor

  • @arquimedesnava1 Primo.. se supone que no sufrio solo una contusione.

  • Next time where some S K A T E s lol

hope you are OK in that wasnt your last try .

  • PLEASE anyone teach this guy how to use the CHECK LIST

  • Darwin Theory at it's best :D

  • Did he survive? I hope that he is ok!

  • I can't belive he didn't release the bars !! What he was thinking?? I must save this expensive wing being towed by an ultralight (!!!) even it may kill me? I do hangglide also and I never would come to the idea to keep holding.

  • Should have eaten some Bean & cheese taco before launching your glider, Nice video I like it. Five Stars, Like the way your head went through the dacron that was kool

  • I think that a pilot that fails to remember a fundamenental thing like hooking should give up this sport... sorry to say that but there are no "old and stupid" pilots....

  • always check your equipment

  • dude wtf i have done this like 4 times exactly like this too and even without a helmet it wont give you a concussion?

  • hang check ,is not a chore it`s a life saver.thing is you may not be clipped in but you are attached through the tow line to the glider, this is more of an issue with static winch launching with two lines, which form a loop and the instint is to fly the glider not to reach down and unclip. hope he was ok

  • I think having small landing wheels would have been a good idea.- hope the pilot is okay

  • epic fail :D

  • Dammit looked like he snapped his neck or something! Should have let go as soon as he started dragging but then I suppose that can happen if you are clipped in!

  • when are you yanks going to learn. clip in the harness first then step into the harness, then do a hang check. Jesus !

  • me lembrou o catarina lah em valadares uma vez......doido neh cahcah!!!

  • what about the tow plane? Can it disconnect the cable in a split second?

  • yeah, but it's up to the glider pilot to keep himself safe... that happened so quick the glider pilot didn't even release

  • do he died ?

  • DOO HE DAIED?>?

  • LOL

  • I think he meant to do that, funny stunt, haha

  • it's a joke people,,,, so how many people where standing around DAVID watching his carabiner dangle off his harness, who's the buddy helping with the hangcheck..atleast his buddy ran to him, if it was a paraglider he would have walked over after standing around a bit..lol...

  • This also goes to show the importance of the use of weaks links. Never fly without one!!!(two ideally) This may be obvious to most but i've witnessed people who tow without them.

  • Hook your harness onto your glider before you get in it! It's a little more difficult but worth it!

  • Please people DO YOUR HANG CHECKS! And use a cart...

  • I´ve seen so many troubles with carts..

  • Hey Dave, Is that George Ferris?

    Steve Varden

  • I almost did that truck towing last year, caught it just in time to signal abort.Repeatedly poppin off flight after flight all morning long (starting at sunup, lol) I became complacent.I learned to treat each one as the only one of the day into afternoon soaring flight.

  • ...do hang check each and every time! Take

a few seconds and save a lotta lotta time

and money not being hurt and hospitalized.

...another good reason to have wheels on

base tube - avoid a severe nose in. Why

was tow takeoff on asphalt and not grass?

Likely the grassy area would have softened

    harsh impact.

  • No Excuse!! HANG CHECK, HANG CHECK, HANG CHECK, very stupid accident that could have totally been avoided easily, people like this should have their gliders and license taken from them, glad the guy is ok, he is lucky thats all that happened

  • What, nobody looks over your harness and glider for you before you launch? SHEESE!!

Where is your wing man? Man?

  • Good to hear that he is ok. Too bad the press was there to give the sport more negative attention. I guess the added distraction of the press being there contributed to this accident.

  • Sorry but.......lol what were they thinking, I've tried hang gliding (great sport)and I don't remember this form of take off in the text books.

  • It's very common to tow behind microlights and cars.

  • We are all happy he is OK, big lesson learned from a simple mistake... at the microsecond I realized I was unhooked I would have turned into a ball covering my head. I thought about the "whole reaction time thing" and i think it was possible to let go and react and go into "save yourself mode" and have a less of a blunt force impact to the head. This is where quick "ninja skills" come into play. once you realize you are gunna crash...react immediately!!!! like a ninja!

    DB

  • Never fails.... How many time have we seen that the minute the press shows up to do a story, there is an incident. Often I suspect that the fact that the press is there, places enough distractions to disrupt a pilots normal routine. Extra care is needed when you have the added distractions.

  • sail ,wires, airframe, nuts and bolts, kingpost

S.W.A.N.K..then Hancheck and get a buddy to follow your routine every flight, add to it , take parts out but do it the same way everytime in the order you decide. keep flying!

  • Attach your harness to the glider as part of the glider setup and before you take off, do a bloody hang check! Don't make excuses or try to justify any other method, just do it and avoid stupid bloody accidents like this. There is just no excuse for this type of accident. It gives the sport a bad name. LEARN FROM IT!

  • what happend with this guy? Is he OK?

  • yes, concussion
