Scifi and myth in the same movie, that`s what i call a perfect combo, I hope this day will pass away fast because I want to see this at movie fillmsi.co.cc when I come back from my job...
I actually didn't get it at first. I kept thinking about it afterward and then it clicked. Of course I could be wrong but the film was excelent on twists so it's seems possible. See it now on fillmsi.co.cc and you will be satisfied!!
When my sister saw the trailer for this, she said "They're gonna make the best video game ever out of this film." I said "Okay, I think I'm officially his fan now." I saw film on fillmsi.co.cc after that.
Just watched this, it was pretty awesome, and funny too... but save yourself some money and watch it at fillmsi.co.cc. Overall, definitely worth watching! Great film!!
Dude, i havent seen it, but it looks stunnning, touching and absolutely beautiful, almost breathtaking. I will have to see it on filmsi.co.cc right now. This movie can be a very different kind of exprerience for those who have lost loved ones to disease or so.
Wtf is up with men getting usually better looking as they get old but women getting old ususally ends in disaster! But the movie actually looks really freaking good so I am goinig to see it on filmsi.co.cc right now!
Ypatia was a Greek philosopher with neoplatonic philosophical ideas. Greeks after Alexander ruled Egypt for 300 years until the last Ptolemaic Queen Kleopatra. After the Roman conquest there were many Greeks in Egypt. Most of them didnt want to change their Greek ancient religion even in the 5th century AD, when Ypatia was killed by fanatic Christians in Alejandria.
This is based off min-woo hyungs work! The story of this movie is really deep and symbolic with interesting characters... I even found it on sitemoovie.co.cc... This is just perfect...
greeks and romans were bloodthirsty expansionists, intolerants and paganists. they detroyed every kind of culture on their path, murdering, burning, raping and burning entire cities seeking gold, slaves and everything they could carry. remember cartague, jerusalem, by the romans, and gaza and tiro, by the "superior race" greeks. thats why americans are becoming atheists, to kill, burn and destroy other countries, religions and cultures, whithout sorrow or mercy!
Even the atheism is a point of view acceptable. There are many ways of thinking and the tolerance toward them is one of the greatest values that human kind must keep. Personally I believe in God, but other people has the right to believe in what ever they want. That´s called pacific coexistence, and is the key for the peace for everybody. Fundamentalism and intolerance wherever they come.... well they are the cause of the bloodiest conflicts in human history.
Movie makes again clear that religion is the murderer of all civilization. Not a satanist, far from it, but the great Greek and Roman empires badly influenced by the cross hangers (J.C.) and other weak scum. Not a bad movie , by the way;)
Omg. I watched movie in theaters and thought my head was going to explode. It was a great movie, at times hard to follow, but good over all. But everything was spinning and jumping and shooting, i had to take advil when i got home! Now I am watching it again on malifilmici.co.cc!

no matter what age we talk about, people always fight, always force others to quit what they belive. fight for power, using stupid reasons, religion, race, sexual orientation it's all the same. i keep asking myself why always the good people have to be removed. maybe it's like in the 7000000 movie on youtube. don't know. brilliant movie tho.
Hungry for a good movie...this is for you.. I like the laughs...what a crazy sounds..its just great...if you are not feeling good, just go to malifilmici.co.cc and you will have fun, for sure man...I guaranty!!Just love it very much....
There are quite a few of the lines / scenes aren't in the movie, but generally you get the idea, and the film doesn't really miss anything by not having them in it by the looks. See it 0n malifilmici.co.cc...
This movie that I enyojed for me will not get old nor will i get tired of it.. I will watch it over and over again This movie is well worth your time, saw it on kookicá and I would say see it if you havent and if you have see it again.
Turns out Hollywood can indeed make films entertaining to modern audiences without sex, violence or, for that matter, buffoonish bathtroom humor or depressing angsty drama-- apparently it just takes some creativity and good story-telling. Great movie-- see it on kookíca and you'll leave it happy!
This movie is really well done.. It has nicee effects... color and camera angles when I first saw it on kookíca I was surpised and really liked it... I think everyone should see it...
I admire the fact that storyline in this movie takes everyday things that people do, but don't think enough about it. Valued every minute of your time.. See it before it comes out...it is free just for you at kookíca! Do not skip it.
The fact that a movie like this can be made in our modern times is a testament that there are still producers out there who believe in the magic (pun free of charge) that is this movie. See it on kookicá and enjoy!
this was one of the best action films i have ever seen on kookíca... There are very few movies that can not be improved upon but this is defiently one.
Surely one of the best films of the year that i saw on kookíca, director's effort I believe is a triumphant and revolutionary new take in film. an upbeat soundtrack and by blending fear, tension, and humor all into one.
See this film at kookíca!! Believe me, you must watch this movie, incredible story! The best movie time of my lifetime. I trusted this guys very much when I saw this video, and I didn't regret for seeing it in the full of time!
This film is outstanding. This players not only make us feel as we are fighting in this with them, they also add raw emotion to this truly touching cinematic experience. I must admit I rarely cry in films, but this one totaly moved me.. Smart made, with lots of morality. Before it comes out, you can see this online, on kookíca. ENJOY!!
This movie should have unbelieveable hype and if this amazing action scene he talks about can surpass the joker chase scene that ends with an 18 wheeler flipping straight up, i will be beyond impressed when I see it on kòòkica today.
Very influential movie for all the audience. The real power of it is the understated acting and the doomed sense of a way of life drawing to a close. A theme visited over and over again in this genre but here given its most modern twist...most dramatic, most amusing...it has everything you need. See this film at kòòkica!
the myth of the dark age, As a deist I actually took the time to research what historians meant by "dark age", The dark age only encompassed western Europe, The term "dark" meant that the history in many parts of western Europe was left largely unwritten and undocumented creating a large gap or dark spot in recorded history, for a few centuries after the fall of the western half of the empire.
The effect of Hypathias murder, Was not the dark age, It was the Emperor Theodosius II feeling tremendous guilt for her murder,That he ordered a massive building projects to construct new houses of learning and research within the Imperial capital,Were he and his successors could better protect it. The Patriarch of Constantinople of the day called Cyril of alexandria a monster, born and educated for the destruction of the church"
I don't need to see this. It would just make me hate religion more than I already do.
Also, I love Rachel Weisz and all, but how can someone as "pale" as her, supposed to be ANY character from ancient Egypt? That's almost as bad as them casting Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia.
@KeroroGunsouTX While I respect your views on religion, someone as "pale" as Rachel Weisz was actually probable for women in ancient Egypt. It was a sign, for women at least, of importance in society as she did not have to work outside and labour. There is evidence from Egyptian art of some pretty pale women. While Jake Gyllenhaal was not suited for his role, Rachel Weisz is based on historical facts, and Hypatia was Greek.
@KeroroGunsouTX It was a romanized Egypt...there were Romans from the european region there.... I'm sure there were plenty of pale people in ancient rome... I don't claim to be an expert, but wikipedia and google search both appear to pont towards her being pale.
@KeroroGunsouTX Do you think everyone in the middle east is and has always been dark skinned arabs, or look like them? despite what the arabs might tell you, most of the islamic worlds countries hold diverse couler and religious populations
i expect someone to come and tell me if followers of his/her religion never did at least a crime...so shut up and think(if you have the ability)the difference between faith and organised religion*
A thought provoking film about the life of philosopher Hypatia set in Alexandria in the 4th century. Shows the conflict between Christianity, Paganism and Judaism and how men of ambition use religion as a tool to gain power. And this power play involves stripping people of their right to think, to question, to hold individual beliefs. And most of all targeting women who are educated and who ask questions. Something that hasn't changed in 1500 years... Must watch film.
@rushgiri I really appreciated the comment, although there is substantial religious tolerance there is still an overwhelming sense of religious intolerance around the world.
@rushgiri No. Most of all, the violence of the christian church! And as they walk on this earth and claim legeitamecy, i wish there were a hell like they describe because it would surley awit them
(king James Version)(Ezekiel)(Ez-9-6)(Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.)
There was a conflict between moderates and fanatics in hypathia's time,You had a tolerant Governor who tried to harmonize the christian Jewish and pagan communities in Alexandria, On the other hand you had a power hungry vindictive Arch Bishop who thought he was above the governors authority and sought to undermine him at every turn, Hypathia was murdered to cause chaos and discredit the Governor, Which unfortunately worked.
Stop this drivel!! I am originaly Catholic. My father sent me to a private only girls Catholic school and, at the end, I said: fuck all religions!!! Waste of time. Now, my father is a spiritualist.
But I have to say one thing about the Catholics: they are very prejudiced in the United Kingdom. They aren't anywhere else, especially Latin America (where ALL Christians [and by that I also mean Catholics] pray together).
If, near the end of WWII, an armistice had been achieved & the Nazis somehow were allowed to stay in power, I have no doubt that over the time there would have been reformations - AFTER they wiped out the jews, blacks, etc. & anyone who disagreed with them within their borders.
I see the Catholic Church in the same light. Should a mass murderer who has "reformed" and seen the errors of his ways be allowed to go free?
I'm sorry the history of my faith offends you but I despise religious "fascism," as you call it, as much as anyone. I do not condone what the Catholic Church of the 1st Vatican did during many eras in history. I'm glad it has reformed. I started with simply voicing my discontent with the poetic license of this film. But what the movie does very well is the portrayal of fanaticism and extremism, and its warning against it. so let's not be extreme, even towards religion.
You write that the protestants as a group never caused death, and then you write barring the wars between them and the Catholics. Dont you see the myopic flaw in your statement. You chose to ignore the most crucial aspect of this religion, its basis, how it was formed and how it gained political power, and you go on talking about pretty pink flowers, and how these same people used to love them. Hopeless!
@eldadevata Christianity in developed nations have not "caused death" for over 200 years. What's your goal now but to incite hatred that is not warranted? Should I accuse the Japanese for barbarism because their grandfathers slaughtered my kind during WWII?
A beautiful movie, if you understand that, they have showed the Taliban mentality of christain in those days, who can go on Jihad against non believers, exactly what is happening now in Pakistan and Taliban. History repeats.
Unfortunately its not only about the mentality of the Christians of those days. Even today under different names they try to challenge scientific knowledge and rational thinking. They speak about creationism and intelligent design, they want to enter our schools and teach these beliefs as scientific facts. They reinterpret history to present Christianity in an innocent pink picture, covering centuries of crime and murder, and the destruction of scientific works.
@eldadevata Please, calm down here. There isn't one christian denomination. There are many. As there are religions. Certain Christian groups cannot and should not be faulted for what other groups did thousands of years ago. Regarding destruction of knowledge, please be more fair-minded: The Irish Monasteries' preservation of knowledge started the Carolingian Renaissance. There are other monastic pursuits of science such as Mendel's.
@eldadevata The Lutheran church and its spirituality gave a thematic framework for the genius of Bach. In America, the evangelical churches had supported the separation of church and state during the birth of this nation. And please do not forget the father of the Civil Rights movement himself was a Christian Pastor.
@eldadevata "They reinterpret history to present Christianity in an innocent pink picture"
I'd like to add a little more on that point, with the question: which Christianity are you referring to? And who are "they?" Remember there are many branches of Christians. And some certainly can claim innocence within the history of their own branch.
I might be wrong but pls correct me if so. Where in the Bible is it said that a religious constitution and foundation ( the church) must be established that will follow a certain line of rules or will act/ judge/ guide ppl according to anything? If so what are the orders to the church from the holy bible?
What is the Bible actualy? Four chapters about the actualy life of Jesus (in four different versions by the way), and a bunch of letters from Paul to various cities. If you seek to see if Jesus said anything about churces, you will find nothing. But somehow that ist not inportant anymore, because various priest after Jesus said we strongly need a church, and than that we need a pope, and then that we need a lot of money for them. So actualy Bible is a very relative thing...;)
Synesius was both a neo-platonist and a christian bishop who likely did not know of Hypatia's death. Hypatia's friendship with the Prefect Orestes (who was a Christian) and her endorsement of his political stance divided politics between Orestes and the Bishop Cyril, who sought to discredit her through accusations of witchcraft. Supporters of Cyril assassinated her with or without Cyril's implication.
In essence, Hypatia likely died due to political warfare. It was her support and alignment with one faction of Christian politics (Orestes) over another (Cyril) that resulted in her assassination. Also, the Parabolani were grossly inaccurately portrayed. They were not responsible for her death, no record of them ever depicted them as being armed soldiers. The term means "those who risk their lives." They volunteered to help lepers and the diseased, risking infection.
So this is your scientifically accurate historical thesis, that she likely died for a political reason nor for a religious one. Like there was a difference between the two. Ignorant sheep. And the Jews were also killed because of a political reason, and everyone who chose to believe in another imaginary god was killed because of a political reason, and those who didnt believe in any nonsense, and those women who dared use their minds, etc. Your kind makes me puke!
@eldadevata This is not my historical thesis. It is what I have found after research. Do some yourself. The consensus in the historical academic community is there. You simply have to look. Both Orestes and Bishop Cyril were Christians. Hypatia was supportive of one over the other. I did not say religion had nothing to do with it, but simply she was not murdered because she was not a Christian.
Its not a historical thesis Ill give you that much. Its your childish opinion based on your view of things trough pink glasses. An outrageous naiveté plus an apologetic rhetoric. Not a pretty picture.
@eldadevata Actually you cannot discard political reasons. Religion and politics come always together. The religion is a way to acquire power, political power, of course both seeking for economical benefits of certain minorities or groups, although sometimes ideologies play an important role. It was not until a couple of centuries ago that state and church were separated, even nowadays still remain some countries that have a religious state or theocracy, like the persian regime for instance.
@dnonar Religion is a tool to acquire political and military power, because its irrational arguments are appealing to the simpleminded and undereducated people. Just like any other ideology that proved to be just as successful. But unlike nationalism for example, that at least has some genetic and evolutionary reasons, religion has no background to support it, has no explanatory value, nor any substantial meaning besides playing on the hopes and fears of the many.
@eldadevata nice explanation, I agree. So, why does religion always emerge? A few unscrupulous ones, who realize of the power of fear and hope of mobs, use it for their own benefits, usually economical ones. The incapacity (or lack interest) of sharing the knowledge of those who have had access to education. That was the problem in Alexandria, a mixture of a powerful christianity and ignorant mobs who didn't realize what was happening and helped to burn the library.
@eldadevata you're right. Have you read "the demon-haunted world: science as a candle in the dark" by Carl Sagan? it deals about all these topics. I am sure, if you haven't read it yet, you're gonna love that book.
@dnonar Yes, I know the book, but I haven’t read it yet. In this hectic life it’s still a wonder that I have time for anything at all. We just had the gay Pride in Budapest, and we had to deal with the incompetent police and the same religious and nationalistic neo-fascist reincarnated mob, that seems to persist against all evolutionary and progressive odds. Even if their ideology serves no purpose in an educated and integrated society, they still continue to exist.
@eldadevata I hope the gay pride in budapest gets better with the time. In some countries (where pernicious religions have rooted) gays are stoned. All religions are actually misleading and avoid progress, and the three that get all the honors on that are christianism, judaism and islamism, all of them with the same machoistic and retrograde conceptions, the same fundamental cruelty. If you get distracted a little bit they will beat you up and subdue your rights. It's always a constant fight.
@eldadevata we have this weekend a gay parade in san diego, it is gonna be huge. Last year was a lot of fun. Fortunately this city is gay friendly. It's a matter of time, I hope, that the rest of the world will take it easy eventually. Good for you, my best wishes to you in your struggle to civilize your city and get read of ignorance (in this regard at least). A friend of mine gave me a book today " god is not great" by Christopher Hitchens and I am enjoying it.
@dnonar I’m not surprised you like that book. He is definitely a fun guy to read!
I’ve just came back from Poland, where we had the European Pride this year, next year it will be in Rome.
I guess the Catholics are not really happy now, that we are organising these event in the last two countries that are still willing to be bullied by the Vatican in Europe.
@eldadevata You are doing a great job! it's great that you can have a gay parade in conservative catholic countries as Poland, and even better if you can organize it in the very same Rome!!! Europe has always given a lot of free thinkers to the world, I hope that one day may Europe become a secular region free of religions, as well as, eventually, the rest of the world. We the citizen should never give up in this fight, because they could come back anytime and start the slaughter again.
@dnonar Well yes, although we like to complain sometimes too much, compared to other regions on the globe including the US, Europe is still a haven for diversity and human rights. In most EU countries we have gay marriage or civil partnership, in Hungary we have civil partnership since last year and more than 60% of the population supports this law. We had at most only 300 neo-fascist attacking the pride, and they were beaten up by the police and arrested.
@eldadevata I don't know about your picture of Europe as a place of acceptance of diverse peoples. I wouldn't want to be a Muslim in France today, much less in Serbia in 1992...
@TheDesertist: You know, the negative feelings towards Muslims do not happen out of the blue in Europe. I am German, grew up in the area of Germany with the highest percentage of Turkish immigrants and their families of the 2nd and 3rd generation. In Germany you are more likely to be discriminated, bullied, treated with lack of respect (especially towards women), even threatened by Turks than the other way round. Right now many Western Europeans seem to have had it up to here...
@Trampadoo I hear you loud and clear, Trampadoo. Honestly, I didn't mean for my comment to read as an attack on Europeans -- I just meant that there is plenty of tension (on all sides), and that portraying Europe as the paragon of racial harmony isn't necessarily accurate. It sounds like you agree with me on that. I'm sure there is plenty of discrimination coming back your way. For what it's worth, my grandmother is from Germany, and I was there for World Cup and thought it was phenomenal.
@TheDesertist: Recial harmony definitely not, I agree. But I have to put the main blame on Muslim immegrants unfortunately. For some reason Germans, most Eastern Europeans, Asians and Africans seem to get along pretty well.
Yeah, the WC was pretty awesome. THAT was racial harmony and if it is only by the magic of football for a couple of weeks. :)
I don't claim superior knowledge. In fact, most of this I just researched after I saw the film. I initially had great admiration of the movie and considered it to be one of the most important films I ever saw. However, upon careful analysis of various historical accounts, it became clear to me that immense poetic license was taken for the film. The agenda here isn't to accurately portray history but to present Hypatia as a martyr of science and religion the bane of reason
You dont need her story to see the obvious. Religion in all its obscene glory has prevented the rational and questioning minds from emerging and being recognised for centuries, in Europe and on other continents. Christianity, the most irrational of all of them would have spread its ignorant views without limits if the Muslim religion wouldnt have emerged. Its rather ironic how one delusion can be a restrain to another delusion.
@eldadevata The Christian religion in the developed nations has long since reformed. We know about the horrors of the medieval political Church, that was the precise reason why many branched out of it and in turn became the target for persecution during the various Inquisitions, etc. And I am quite sure no mainline Christian would like to see those atrocities again, by mainline I mean the Mainline Churches, not Jesus Camp, not Westboro Church, not Pentecostals speaking in tongues.
@gariadara You know there are Christians in Eastern Europe too. Not Roman-Catholics or protestants or anyother branches formed out of Roman-Catholics. I am talking about Orthodox Christians in Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Yogoslavia, Romania, Chech Republic, Slovakia, etc. The word inquisition is a foreign word for the orthodox church. On the contrary there are many Christian martyrs from the pagan prosequtions.
Yeah, you're right, many of the scientists were christians, the others got killed.
Mind telling me why did the christians murdered anyone that wasnt a christian? or anyone that was part of the iluminati? Iluminati was a pacific group of scientists and mentors that studied the earth and had lots of astrology knowledge. What did the christians do? Kill them. Then the church brainwashed people to hate the Iluminati.
So quit watching BBC news of american movies ONLY, open your mind, go read a book (No, American government cant touch 80% of the books, so take advantage of it.) Watch more movies such as da vinci code that was prohibited on Italy because once again, the truth must be hidden so people are easily controlled, Zeitgeist series, and many others. Stop being one side minded and love the american flag and the bible for no actual reason.
If you do love them so much, I guess I shall give up now because theres no point talking to someone that likes terrorism(9/11, invading Iraq/Afghan for profit) or massacres (burning people alive thanks to their advanced knowledge, then again, it's easier to control people if theyre ignorant.)
I shall leave you to your bbc news channel and being brainwashed by the US government and pope.
@r4f4st4n1 You tell me to shut up without actually replying to any of my arguments. You worship the Illuminati (which one? I don't think you actually know that there was more than one, lol. You certainly don't give off the air that you know much, for a 31 year old) and the Zeitgeist, I'm not wasting my time with you. Please don't reply to this.
You also didnt anser my arguments also, plus I'm not even worshipping Iluminati and neither I'm 31 YO, Once again, turn on the BBC news please, since that seems the only way for you to have fun, I wish you the best of luck :D
@r4f4st4n1 Hell, I have 10 minutes to waste, so I'll entertain you: You haven't come up with anything I can call an argument. You come up with accusations, not arguments. There is a difference. I don't respond to accusations.
@r4f4st4n1 it's what they are. what point could you possibly be trying to make with "I guess I shall give up now because theres no point talking to someone that likes terrorism(9/1, etc.) or massacres" and "brainwashed by the US government and pope." "Then the church brainwashed people to hate the Iluminati." other than to make baseless accusations? Maybe to you the US government as a whole is trying to brainwash the world, if that's true then you have a limited perception of reality.
@r4f4st4n1 seriously, HOW do you expect ANYONE to respond to statements like that? About my country no less? It's like me saying you're fat or that your mom is a liar. How do you expect me to deal with that kind of 5th-grader mentality? You come up with why you think BBC news and America do the things you claim they do, then we'll talk. Bye now.
You know about the horrors? Then you consciously ignore that the very same label and dogma that gave the ground for those crimes are still worshiped today by the mass of ignorant. After the 2 WW in Europe we have criminalised the use of any symbol related to the Nazi party because of the crimes they committed under that banner. The fascism practiced by many religions for centuries is seen by the simple minded as something forgivable, while they continue the same traditions.
@eldadevata don't you think that is such a narrow view of the world? the past will always seem barbaric and "fascist" when compared to the present. Don't you think that, in some version of the future, perhaps people will likewise label present American democracy is barbaric and fascist? They might look at a time of death penalty and laws against polygamy, perhaps the entire institution of marriage and the family unit, and wars as close-minded.
It's conpiracy bullshit to the americans, it shows proof, and even before watching the video, I already knew what was going on. I mean, anyone that doesnt sit in front of the TV waiting for the BBC news knows what the heck is going on.
You americans need to get out more time.
Plus, I have the access to the "New Acropolis" books as I'm part of it, so please dont waste your time saying I dont read shit because I do. 90% Of those books there arent even available to the public.
If you love the USA and Christian religion so much, mind telling me why did the christians killed people that wanted to increase their knowledge? Mind telling me why the americans are in Afghan AND in Iraq? Yeah, profit.
@r4f4st4n1 perhaps it is better for you to answer those questions yourself. You are painting a falsely black and white picture in your own head, lumping everyone into a single category. Do you know how many American voters are against the war in Iraq? Do you know that there isn't one single Christian Religion but many, and that they have all been reformed since the Middle Ages? Do you know that many of the scientists were Christians?
@r4f4st4n1 The Catholic Church was the single largest patron of the arts and knowledge during the middle ages. Bach, the celtic monasteries and their collection of important works of literature, Mendel's work, even Galileo was funded. The world was just as complex back then as it is now and history isn't black and white. Neither is the USA. Without it, people in other places of the world may not be enjoying democracy, cars, planes, the telephone, etc.
Yes, the Catholic Church was the single greatest patron of arts and science in the middle ages, because they destroyed every other possible form of doing art or science. Almost nothing escaped their limited perception of the world, almost nothing could survive their obscene censure. Visit Italy or any museum that has gathered art works from that time. Its almost impossible not to find a Jesus or Mary or their imaginary sky daddy in any of those works until the secular revolution.
@eldadevata the idea that the entire middle ages is a "dark age" has long been regarded as nothing more than a caricature by scholars. history was more than simple "light-vs-dark." The Early Middle Ages in Western Europe was indeed a regression but that owed as much to the fall of Rome as it did religion. HAve you forgotten completely the various renaissances before the so-called age of reason? In the 8th, 12th, 15th centuries? These were all supported by carious monasteries or the nobility
And such agendas are not rare and not without merit, and there has always been a long, millenia-old tradition of utilizing Hypatia 's life and death to construct such agendas. While it does show how harmful fanaticism can be, keep in mind that this was not what really happened in history. A film about Galileo would serve the duo purpose of accuracy and presenting such a message, however Galileo himself was Christian, his story'd be more of an internal persecution.
What agenda are you talking about? Are you consciously ignorant? Its not only about her death, its about the destruction of entire libraries, knowledge gain by centuries of work and diligence, were destroyed by these uneducated newly Christianised mobs. And the Christian government just set back and watched how everything was destroyed, lives, different myths and beliefs, rational questioning minds.
@eldadevata "its about the destruction of entire libraries, knowledge gain by centuries of work and diligence, were destroyed by these uneducated newly Christianised mobs."
If you are referring to the Library of Alexandria. I have already mentioned that it was in ruins by the time of Hypatia, as Caesar burned it down. So a Christian "mob" had nothing to do with its destruction. That part of the film is pure fiction.
Ceasar? Oh please, it was the christians, they wanted to control people via making them ignorant, therebefore, burning all those manuscripts, many of them had lots of information about mayans, atlantis and their technology. Most likely, we would know how the egyptians built the pyramids if it was this.
I suggest you also go watch Zeitgeist movie, shows proof as this film does.
Christians controlled, killed, raped, etc lots of inocent lives back then.
You must read more. The manuscripts were burned mostly by the muslims. Christians used this library in Alexandria was the christian mysticism, which is based on the ancient knowledge.
But there always will be mass of uneducated people...there is no god in the crowed...
Zeitgeist is not serious movie. It is conspiracy bullshit.
@r4f4st4n1 Caesar attacked alexandria in 48 BC. He burned a whole bunch of libraries then. Aurelian conquered Alexandria, he probably destroyed what was left of it. I don't know how this movie shows the "truth." The historical accounts are so varied and full of conjectures that any attempt at creating a film would by default warrant an enormous amount of subjective input of one's own opinion of what happened.
You under-educated moron! Cesar didnt burn any library on his attack on Alexandria, he attacked the strategic points of the city and set fire to the harbour not the royal and religious quarter. And he definitely was not against the old gods nor the teachings of the priests and philosophers. After the 7th century, pathetic Christian apologists have tried to blame the Muslims for these destruction, when they were the ones who actually saved science, you an ignorant on basic history blame Cesar.
@eldadevata As with everything in history, there are of course varying accounts. You are certainly correct that Caesar set fire in the Harbor, however according to Plutarch's account, the fires inadvertently spread throughout the city and burnt down the library. The Library of Alexandria was in ruins by the time of Hypatia, that much historians agree upon.
What an absurd claim. Cesar set fire to the harbour. While the library was in the royal quarter of the city, protected by a very large stone building and a water network. After the fire his generals have occupied and used this royal quarter. The museum and the library survived until 400 very close to her death. Unfortunately it was not only this library, as the temples of the ancient gods in Egypt Greece and Rome were all repositories of libraries and art works destroyed by this religion.
the movie is perfect, its just another prove that shows how religious are stupid, we dont need a religion, we need more kindness, knowledge and respect to each other.
Its about hypatia and her struggle as the christians chase pagans when christianity became the oficial faith of romans-byzantines.
The roles changed and pretty much christians did what romans did to them b4, burning temples, destoying statues, burning libraries with unvaluable books, executing pagan priests and believers, banning and closing platos academy and olympic games.
Can you tell me that the significant facts from the movies weren't true? That Hypathia wasn't a filosofer, that she wasn't killed by the christians, that Orestes and Cyril and Silenius didn't exist or that they were other than described in the film? Or do you want to point out the "crucial" fact that Davos isn't a hystoical character, or that he didn't kill Hypathia. Please enlighten me with your superior knowledge!
"Can you tell me that the significant facts from the movies weren't true?"
The most significant difference between the film and the account that most historians now agree upon, is that Hypatia's death was not religiously motivated. She did not die because she refused to convert. She was a well-respected teacher of both Christians and non-Christians. Synesius never tried to convert her or cause Orestes to "betray" her. Synesius was not in Alexandria at the time.
I guess your comments reflect the theme of this movie most clearly. Of course her death was not religiously motivated because that would make you feel bad. Of course the earth is flat, and stands on pillars because thats what the bible says. You are pathetic! What does anyone expect from an apologetic. Its lovely how your kind could write novels(and did so for centuries) about how wrong everybody is when they see things as they are.
@eldadevata The film portrays itself as uber-realistic, and, to be sure, it gets some things right, visually portraying later hellenistic culture in such a way that it transports you there literally. But this is what's so troubling about it. One assumes that if the other details are correct, the history must also be largely correct. But in fact, the poetic license it takes is enormous.

Ypatia was a Greek philosopher with neoplatonic philosophical ideas. Greeks after Alexander ruled Egypt for 300 years until the last Ptolemaic Queen Kleopatra. After the Roman conquest there were many Greeks in Egypt. Most of them didnt want to change their Greek ancient religion even in the 5th century AD, when Ypatia was killed by fanatic Christians in Alejandria.

greeks and romans were bloodthirsty expansionists, intolerants and paganists. they detroyed every kind of culture on their path, murdering, burning, raping and burning entire cities seeking gold, slaves and everything they could carry. remember cartague, jerusalem, by the romans, and gaza and tiro, by the "superior race" greeks. thats why americans are becoming atheists, to kill, burn and destroy other countries, religions and cultures, whithout sorrow or mercy!

Fundamentalism and intolerance wherever they come.... well they are the cause of the bloodiest conflicts in human history.

the myth of the dark age, As a deist I actually took the time to research what historians meant by "dark age", The dark age only encompassed western Europe, The term "dark" meant that the history in many parts of western Europe was left largely unwritten and undocumented creating a large gap or dark spot in recorded history, for a few centuries after the fall of the western half of the empire.

Also, I love Rachel Weisz and all, but how can someone as "pale" as her, supposed to be ANY character from ancient Egypt? That's almost as bad as them casting Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia.
KeroroGunsouTX 1 year ago

But what the movie does very well is the portrayal of fanaticism and extremism, and its warning against it. so let's not be extreme, even towards religion.
gariadara 1 year ago
You write that the protestants as a group never caused death, and then you write barring the wars between them and the Catholics. Dont you see the myopic flaw in your statement. You chose to ignore the most crucial aspect of this religion, its basis, how it was formed and how it gained political power, and you go on talking about pretty pink flowers, and how these same people used to love them. Hopeless!

A beautiful movie, if you understand that, they have showed the Taliban mentality of christain in those days, who can go on Jihad against non believers, exactly what is happening now in Pakistan and Taliban. History repeats.
floatinsun 1 year ago
Unfortunately its not only about the mentality of the Christians of those days. Even today under different names they try to challenge scientific knowledge and rational thinking. They speak about creationism and intelligent design, they want to enter our schools and teach these beliefs as scientific facts. They reinterpret history to present Christianity in an innocent pink picture, covering centuries of crime and murder, and the destruction of scientific works.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata Please, calm down here. There isn't one christian denomination. There are many. As there are religions. Certain Christian groups cannot and should not be faulted for what other groups did thousands of years ago. Regarding destruction of knowledge, please be more fair-minded: The Irish Monasteries' preservation of knowledge started the Carolingian Renaissance. There are other monastic pursuits of science such as Mendel's.
gariadara 1 year ago
@eldadevata The Lutheran church and its spirituality gave a thematic framework for the genius of Bach. In America, the evangelical churches had supported the separation of church and state during the birth of this nation. And please do not forget the father of the Civil Rights movement himself was a Christian Pastor.
gariadara 1 year ago
@eldadevata "They reinterpret history to present Christianity in an innocent pink picture"
I'd like to add a little more on that point, with the question: which Christianity are you referring to? And who are "they?" Remember there are many branches of Christians. And some certainly can claim innocence within the history of their own branch.

EasyandSimpleLearnin 1 year ago
@EasyandSimpleLearnin
Supporters of Cyril assassinated her with or without Cyril's implication.
gariadara 1 year ago
@EasyandSimpleLearnin
The term means "those who risk their lives." They volunteered to help lepers and the diseased, risking infection.
gariadara 1 year ago
So this is your scientifically accurate historical thesis, that she likely died for a political reason nor for a religious one. Like there was a difference between the two. Ignorant sheep. And the Jews were also killed because of a political reason, and everyone who chose to believe in another imaginary god was killed because of a political reason, and those who didnt believe in any nonsense, and those women who dared use their minds, etc. Your kind makes me puke!
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata This is not my historical thesis. It is what I have found after research. Do some yourself. The consensus in the historical academic community is there. You simply have to look. Both Orestes and Bishop Cyril were Christians. Hypatia was supportive of one over the other. I did not say religion had nothing to do with it, but simply she was not murdered because she was not a Christian.
gariadara 1 year ago
Its not a historical thesis Ill give you that much. Its your childish opinion based on your view of things trough pink glasses. An outrageous naiveté plus an apologetic rhetoric. Not a pretty picture.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata Actually you cannot discard political reasons. Religion and politics come always together. The religion is a way to acquire power, political power, of course both seeking for economical benefits of certain minorities or groups, although sometimes ideologies play an important role. It was not until a couple of centuries ago that state and church were separated, even nowadays still remain some countries that have a religious state or theocracy, like the persian regime for instance.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar Religion is a tool to acquire political and military power, because its irrational arguments are appealing to the simpleminded and undereducated people. Just like any other ideology that proved to be just as successful. But unlike nationalism for example, that at least has some genetic and evolutionary reasons, religion has no background to support it, has no explanatory value, nor any substantial meaning besides playing on the hopes and fears of the many.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata nice explanation, I agree. So, why does religion always emerge? A few unscrupulous ones, who realize of the power of fear and hope of mobs, use it for their own benefits, usually economical ones. The incapacity (or lack interest) of sharing the knowledge of those who have had access to education. That was the problem in Alexandria, a mixture of a powerful christianity and ignorant mobs who didn't realize what was happening and helped to burn the library.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar Well I guess my point was, that I don’t blame the leaders, or the political strategy.
I think the fault is in the religion itself, in its basic irrational nature. And in the "normal" people.
They are the ones who lend their powers to the few.
And they are the ones who can act like mobs, or let others act like mobs, without feeling the responsibility to interfere.
Education helps, but I think this issues is a genetic one.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata you're right. Have you read "the demon-haunted world: science as a candle in the dark" by Carl Sagan? it deals about all these topics. I am sure, if you haven't read it yet, you're gonna love that book.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar Yes, I know the book, but I haven’t read it yet. In this hectic life it’s still a wonder that I have time for anything at all. We just had the gay Pride in Budapest, and we had to deal with the incompetent police and the same religious and nationalistic neo-fascist reincarnated mob, that seems to persist against all evolutionary and progressive odds. Even if their ideology serves no purpose in an educated and integrated society, they still continue to exist.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata I hope the gay pride in budapest gets better with the time. In some countries (where pernicious religions have rooted) gays are stoned. All religions are actually misleading and avoid progress, and the three that get all the honors on that are christianism, judaism and islamism, all of them with the same machoistic and retrograde conceptions, the same fundamental cruelty. If you get distracted a little bit they will beat you up and subdue your rights. It's always a constant fight.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar I believe it will! At least some of us are working very hard on changing the situation.
And I agree, it is a constant struggle with a natural tendency towards ignorance and irrational behaviour.
At least we don’t get bored.

Good for you, my best wishes to you in your struggle to civilize your city and get read of ignorance (in this regard at least). A friend of mine gave me a book today " god is not great" by Christopher Hitchens and I am enjoying it.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar I’m not surprised you like that book. He is definitely a fun guy to read!
I’ve just came back from Poland, where we had the European Pride this year, next year it will be in Rome.
I guess the Catholics are not really happy now, that we are organising these event in the last two countries that are still willing to be bullied by the Vatican in Europe.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata You are doing a great job! it's great that you can have a gay parade in conservative catholic countries as Poland, and even better if you can organize it in the very same Rome!!! Europe has always given a lot of free thinkers to the world, I hope that one day may Europe become a secular region free of religions, as well as, eventually, the rest of the world. We the citizen should never give up in this fight, because they could come back anytime and start the slaughter again.
dnonar 1 year ago
@dnonar Well yes, although we like to complain sometimes too much, compared to other regions on the globe including the US, Europe is still a haven for diversity and human rights. In most EU countries we have gay marriage or civil partnership, in Hungary we have civil partnership since last year and more than 60% of the population supports this law. We had at most only 300 neo-fascist attacking the pride, and they were beaten up by the police and arrested.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata I don't know about your picture of Europe as a place of acceptance of diverse peoples. I wouldn't want to be a Muslim in France today, much less in Serbia in 1992...
TheDesertist 1 year ago
@TheDesertist: You know, the negative feelings towards Muslims do not happen out of the blue in Europe. I am German, grew up in the area of Germany with the highest percentage of Turkish immigrants and their families of the 2nd and 3rd generation. In Germany you are more likely to be discriminated, bullied, treated with lack of respect (especially towards women), even threatened by Turks than the other way round. Right now many Western Europeans seem to have had it up to here...
Trampadoo 1 year ago
@Trampadoo I hear you loud and clear, Trampadoo. Honestly, I didn't mean for my comment to read as an attack on Europeans -- I just meant that there is plenty of tension (on all sides), and that portraying Europe as the paragon of racial harmony isn't necessarily accurate. It sounds like you agree with me on that. I'm sure there is plenty of discrimination coming back your way. For what it's worth, my grandmother is from Germany, and I was there for World Cup and thought it was phenomenal.
TheDesertist 1 year ago

The agenda here isn't to accurately portray history but to present Hypatia as a martyr of science and religion the bane of reason
gariadara 1 year ago
You dont need her story to see the obvious. Religion in all its obscene glory has prevented the rational and questioning minds from emerging and being recognised for centuries, in Europe and on other continents. Christianity, the most irrational of all of them would have spread its ignorant views without limits if the Muslim religion wouldnt have emerged. Its rather ironic how one delusion can be a restrain to another delusion.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata The Christian religion in the developed nations has long since reformed. We know about the horrors of the medieval political Church, that was the precise reason why many branched out of it and in turn became the target for persecution during the various Inquisitions, etc. And I am quite sure no mainline Christian would like to see those atrocities again, by mainline I mean the Mainline Churches, not Jesus Camp, not Westboro Church, not Pentecostals speaking in tongues.
gariadara 1 year ago

Stop being one side minded and love the american flag and the bible for no actual reason.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
If you do love them so much, I guess I shall give up now because theres no point talking to someone that likes terrorism(9/11, invading Iraq/Afghan for profit) or massacres (burning people alive thanks to their advanced knowledge, then again, it's easier to control people if theyre ignorant.)
I shall leave you to your bbc news channel and being brainwashed by the US government and pope.
Not my fault you can't open your mind.
Have fun.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 You tell me to shut up without actually replying to any of my arguments. You worship the Illuminati (which one? I don't think you actually know that there was more than one, lol. You certainly don't give off the air that you know much, for a 31 year old) and the Zeitgeist, I'm not wasting my time with you. Please don't reply to this.
gariadara 1 year ago
You also didnt anser my arguments also, plus I'm not even worshipping Iluminati and neither I'm 31 YO, Once again, turn on the BBC news please, since that seems the only way for you to have fun, I wish you the best of luck :D
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 Hell, I have 10 minutes to waste, so I'll entertain you: You haven't come up with anything I can call an argument. You come up with accusations, not arguments. There is a difference. I don't respond to accusations.
gariadara 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 on your profile page it says your age is 31, I assumed it was correct. My bad.
gariadara 1 year ago
That's also a nice way of calling "Accusations" to my Arguments. Hilarious.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 it's what they are. what point could you possibly be trying to make with "I guess I shall give up now because theres no point talking to someone that likes terrorism(9/1, etc.) or massacres" and "brainwashed by the US government and pope." "Then the church brainwashed people to hate the Iluminati." other than to make baseless accusations? Maybe to you the US government as a whole is trying to brainwash the world, if that's true then you have a limited perception of reality.
gariadara 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 seriously, HOW do you expect ANYONE to respond to statements like that? About my country no less? It's like me saying you're fat or that your mom is a liar. How do you expect me to deal with that kind of 5th-grader mentality? You come up with why you think BBC news and America do the things you claim they do, then we'll talk. Bye now.
gariadara 1 year ago
You know about the horrors? Then you consciously ignore that the very same label and dogma that gave the ground for those crimes are still worshiped today by the mass of ignorant. After the 2 WW in Europe we have criminalised the use of any symbol related to the Nazi party because of the crimes they committed under that banner. The fascism practiced by many religions for centuries is seen by the simple minded as something forgivable, while they continue the same traditions.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata don't you think that is such a narrow view of the world? the past will always seem barbaric and "fascist" when compared to the present. Don't you think that, in some version of the future, perhaps people will likewise label present American democracy is barbaric and fascist? They might look at a time of death penalty and laws against polygamy, perhaps the entire institution of marriage and the family unit, and wars as close-minded.
gariadara 1 year ago
not true dude, all scientists before 100 years were christians. All the invention or re-inventions were made by believers.
In this time there wreren't any difference between science and religion.
sergiomarchelli 1 year ago
It's conpiracy bullshit to the americans, it shows proof, and even before watching the video, I already knew what was going on. I mean, anyone that doesnt sit in front of the TV waiting for the BBC news knows what the heck is going on.
You americans need to get out more time.
Plus, I have the access to the "New Acropolis" books as I'm part of it, so please dont waste your time saying I dont read shit because I do. 90% Of those books there arent even available to the public.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
If you love the USA and Christian religion so much, mind telling me why did the christians killed people that wanted to increase their knowledge? Mind telling me why the americans are in Afghan AND in Iraq? Yeah, profit.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 perhaps it is better for you to answer those questions yourself. You are painting a falsely black and white picture in your own head, lumping everyone into a single category. Do you know how many American voters are against the war in Iraq? Do you know that there isn't one single Christian Religion but many, and that they have all been reformed since the Middle Ages? Do you know that many of the scientists were Christians?
gariadara 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 The Catholic Church was the single largest patron of the arts and knowledge during the middle ages. Bach, the celtic monasteries and their collection of important works of literature, Mendel's work, even Galileo was funded. The world was just as complex back then as it is now and history isn't black and white. Neither is the USA. Without it, people in other places of the world may not be enjoying democracy, cars, planes, the telephone, etc.
gariadara 1 year ago
Yes, the Catholic Church was the single greatest patron of arts and science in the middle ages, because they destroyed every other possible form of doing art or science. Almost nothing escaped their limited perception of the world, almost nothing could survive their obscene censure. Visit Italy or any museum that has gathered art works from that time. Its almost impossible not to find a Jesus or Mary or their imaginary sky daddy in any of those works until the secular revolution.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata the idea that the entire middle ages is a "dark age" has long been regarded as nothing more than a caricature by scholars. history was more than simple "light-vs-dark." The Early Middle Ages in Western Europe was indeed a regression but that owed as much to the fall of Rome as it did religion. HAve you forgotten completely the various renaissances before the so-called age of reason? In the 8th, 12th, 15th centuries? These were all supported by carious monasteries or the nobility
gariadara 1 year ago
@EasyandSimpleLearnin
And such agendas are not rare and not without merit, and there has always been a long, millenia-old tradition of utilizing Hypatia 's life and death to construct such agendas. While it does show how harmful fanaticism can be, keep in mind that this was not what really happened in history. A film about Galileo would serve the duo purpose of accuracy and presenting such a message, however Galileo himself was Christian, his story'd be more of an internal persecution.
gariadara 1 year ago
What agenda are you talking about? Are you consciously ignorant? Its not only about her death, its about the destruction of entire libraries, knowledge gain by centuries of work and diligence, were destroyed by these uneducated newly Christianised mobs. And the Christian government just set back and watched how everything was destroyed, lives, different myths and beliefs, rational questioning minds.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata "its about the destruction of entire libraries, knowledge gain by centuries of work and diligence, were destroyed by these uneducated newly Christianised mobs."
If you are referring to the Library of Alexandria. I have already mentioned that it was in ruins by the time of Hypatia, as Caesar burned it down. So a Christian "mob" had nothing to do with its destruction. That part of the film is pure fiction.
gariadara 1 year ago
Christians controlled, killed, raped, etc lots of inocent lives back then.
r4f4st4n1 1 year ago
You must read more. The manuscripts were burned mostly by the muslims. Christians used this library in Alexandria was the christian mysticism, which is based on the ancient knowledge.
But there always will be mass of uneducated people...there is no god in the crowed...
Zeitgeist is not serious movie. It is conspiracy bullshit.
sergiomarchelli 1 year ago
@r4f4st4n1 Caesar attacked alexandria in 48 BC. He burned a whole bunch of libraries then. Aurelian conquered Alexandria, he probably destroyed what was left of it. I don't know how this movie shows the "truth." The historical accounts are so varied and full of conjectures that any attempt at creating a film would by default warrant an enormous amount of subjective input of one's own opinion of what happened.
gariadara 1 year ago
You under-educated moron! Cesar didnt burn any library on his attack on Alexandria, he attacked the strategic points of the city and set fire to the harbour not the royal and religious quarter. And he definitely was not against the old gods nor the teachings of the priests and philosophers. After the 7th century, pathetic Christian apologists have tried to blame the Muslims for these destruction, when they were the ones who actually saved science, you an ignorant on basic history blame Cesar.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata As with everything in history, there are of course varying accounts. You are certainly correct that Caesar set fire in the Harbor, however according to Plutarch's account, the fires inadvertently spread throughout the city and burnt down the library. The Library of Alexandria was in ruins by the time of Hypatia, that much historians agree upon.
gariadara 1 year ago
What an absurd claim. Cesar set fire to the harbour. While the library was in the royal quarter of the city, protected by a very large stone building and a water network. After the fire his generals have occupied and used this royal quarter. The museum and the library survived until 400 very close to her death. Unfortunately it was not only this library, as the temples of the ancient gods in Egypt Greece and Rome were all repositories of libraries and art works destroyed by this religion.
eldadevata 1 year ago
the movie is perfect, its just another prove that shows how religious are stupid, we dont need a religion, we need more kindness, knowledge and respect to each other.

Pretty much what Jesus taught.......love ;)

Can you tell me that the significant facts from the movies weren't true? That Hypathia wasn't a filosofer, that she wasn't killed by the christians, that Orestes and Cyril and Silenius didn't exist or that they were other than described in the film? Or do you want to point out the "crucial" fact that Davos isn't a hystoical character, or that he didn't kill Hypathia. Please enlighten me with your superior knowledge!
EasyandSimpleLearnin 1 year ago
@EasyandSimpleLearnin
Synesius was not in Alexandria at the time.
gariadara 1 year ago
I guess your comments reflect the theme of this movie most clearly. Of course her death was not religiously motivated because that would make you feel bad. Of course the earth is flat, and stands on pillars because thats what the bible says. You are pathetic! What does anyone expect from an apologetic. Its lovely how your kind could write novels(and did so for centuries) about how wrong everybody is when they see things as they are.
eldadevata 1 year ago
@eldadevata The film portrays itself as uber-realistic, and, to be sure, it gets some things right, visually portraying later hellenistic culture in such a way that it transports you there literally. But this is what's so troubling about it. One assumes that if the other details are correct, the history must also be largely correct. But in fact, the poetic license it takes is enormous.
gariadara 1 year ago
So it wasn't like they described it in the movie?
Are there evidences and Cyril wanted her death?
I read that Cyril was writing books and stuff, in the movie they showed him like ignorant barbarian?
