I've always prefered Moerlen jazzfunk oriented style than the Allen stuff, though I love David, he's insane in the best way possible. Seen him live once (he was around 70 or so, he looked like the livest person in the room), but Pierre was so funky and inventive, such a brilliant drummer, one who still makes me feel like playing this instrument.

The slight echo effect on the sax really floats my boat . . . & the violin lead in the mid section gives it a great uniqueness; separating this tune from others that might otherwise be similar. But I am not quite sure if "uniqueness" is a real word . . .

@borowczyk76 You are quite right, but I think Moerlen did a damn good job at picking up the pieces after the break-up and making some kind of continuation. Shamal is my favorite from that work. Allen's zany creativity is gone as well as the space concepts, but it is still enjoyable. Moerlen did exactly what Waters did with Pink Floyd before him, for similar reasons.
