oh man i remember this. it was the day i learned what aborigines were. I was five, and i was like, when 200 hits, i'll be 9! I'll be in school! Now, 9 years LATER, i'm thinking, oh man, when london hosts the games in 2012 i'll be 21!! XD
i heard lots of bad stuff about sydneys performance at atlanta but seeing it now its not that bad its a little over the top with the kangeroos and the tribal dancers but other than that i actually liked this
Yup...I spent 3 years in Oz and not one person ever referred to a kangaroo as a boomer, or said 'cobber' for that matter. And I have no idea what a drop of perch or a tin of beer is, never ever heard.
It's strange, you know. In other Olympic closing ceremonies, they got to use the emblem used for the next Games (you might find this confusing), which is also used for those Games. Here we see the Sydney bid emblem. When was the Sydney 2000 logo introduced?
lol "when your in sydney these are not Kangaroos, these are roos"...lol everyone says Kangaroo.
The word Kangaroo comes from the Gugu Yimithirr people from Northern Cairns, QLD just above the Kuku Yalangi clan. Captain cooks ship needed to be repair and had to stop over. They got over a hundred words from the Gugu Yimithirr people. The real pronounciation of the word Kangaroo is Gangaroo. Obviously they couldn't pronounce the word porperly and it was recorded with a K.
atlanta games = crappiest games ever

Roos on bikes... big mistake.
Australians rarely make gi-normous blunders like that...unless it's selling off another home-grown icon (Victa is now American owned, dammit)!
The things Americans do...it makes me wanna tear out my hair!

Here we can watch many elements that were used in the Opening ceremony of the Sydney games:
The flags with the rings were the introductions of those ceremonies.
The aborigins were presented in the segment "Awakening"
The same flowers were in the segment "Nature"
They anticipated how great were going to be the Sydney Opening Ceremony 4 years later.

So glad the Aboriginals were given a chance to show that culture.

It was introduced later. From my memories they still don't have the logo in year 1997.

Possibly from hanging rock? Do you have ANY idea what that movie was about? Seriously! (Not directed at poster, directed at announcer)
